I used to work at GC Market in 1986. I was 18 years old. GCM was a much different place in 1986 than it is now. I worked at a deli that sold expired cold cuts and cheese. During lunch often times I would buy a couple slices of pizza from some pizza place owned by an Asian woman a few stalls over. A tiny place. If I recall her daughter worked there too. I think they thought I was cute by the way they interacted with me. I am sure that pizza place closed eons ago. In those days there were some prepared food places where you can get a quick bite to eat, like "Roast To Go" Mexican food, and the Chinese place called China Cafe on the Hill side of the market. It is still there. It was much different when I worked there. It was mostly unprepared foods; you know groceries if you will. Meat, fruit, vegetables, nuts, even had a tortilla factory downstairs. Just a few eating places then, but now it is all or almost all eating places. Then years later it is almost all prepared food places. I haven't been there in about 10 years so I don't know if they have any grocery food places anymore or they are just eateries now. Then after 1986, years later I returned to work in DTLA, but not at GCM but in a high rise, and I would go back to GCM to eat, but just tacos and such, they didn't change it to being almost all eateries yet like it is now. That change was probably about 10 years ago, maybe 15 at most.
I was just speaking about this place to a friend the food is good here. I gotta $15.00 monster burrito and two of the best chicken tacos i ever had in my life here. I usually take a scooter here get my food then immediately leave back to orange county.
Nice puff piece, but you didn't show all the filth, smell, pan handlers, and homeless that also roam this Grand Central Market. This piece is only half true. If you are going to do journalism, tell the entire the story, the good and bad, not just the good.

Minion (Petrowski),
the Dog . ❤️🔥
This place used to be affordable, not anymore over price now
My, how G.C has changed over the years 😮
Freakishly overpriced tourist trap, period.
Agree, not the same anymore
Show how messy the outside looks or a couple blocks from there.
Tell the truth.
Germy?
I think the story is about GCM, the insides and the food you can buy and eat, not a story about down the street.
@@pauloszetarinielli69508 No, not Germany, LosAngeles.
Same as before, stop being a baby and pull-up 💪
We call them “ gorditas” in Mexico 😘
Overpriced , and Dangerous to just get there 😂
😂😂😂 You clearly have never been there. I have been going there since I was a kid, and I never had an issue.
Maybe overpriced but never dangerous, not even one bit.
What about soul food 🤔
It's coming
Popeye's Chicken

Where do you get a job that pays $50 a hour? Everyone seems to have money to blow?
It’s called saving.
Diversity is our strength!!!!!!! If only other countries were as diverse as the US… sad😢
You skipped Donut Man and Bento Ya. For shame.
