I've driven a padded hull performance boat at 90ish, but that was a large 3500# boat with a Bravo drive. I have no idea how these smaller bass boats handle. But given the speed vs size, that's kinda like hitting a twice as big wave at 100mph in my boat vs your 80, no way around it it's gonna be sketchy! You handled it great. You can't power through everything when you're already at top speed lol who knows there could be a bigger set of waves just after it!
Those smooth, low waves coming from the side are deceptively dangerous. They look very innocent. I hit a few of those going only 45 MPH and it felt like drifting on ice...nearly fell off my chair. I can't imagine what you felt going at 80 MPH. Nice job!
Maybe.. I'm pretty green to pad v performance boats.... I didn't chop the throttle but I didn't hold it WOT either. Maybe 3/4 throttle. Didn't have much time to think and dont have my instincts fully developed yet 😁 .... I'm just glad I didn't hook it and get thrown through the rod locker!
I’ve driven these boats. They are inherently unsuitable and want to be squirrelly at higher speeds. The steering had to be constantly worked to counter those oscillations they are prone to.
When I was a teen my friends dad tried to trim up their checkmate outboard without really knowing what he was doing. We knew at high speeds it would start oscillating out of control. One of us dove up and grabbed the throttle back just before we almost had to bail out of the boat. I just remember the terrifying feeling of going fast and starting to oscillate horribly.
@@kemicalx17 That’s pretty much what I did. You just want to try to keep the bow from dropping and hooking.. It’s hard to make yourself stay in the throttle when it’s happening. Especially the first few times, but it is your best bet.
Man I saw that! That was pretty serious... Really good presence of mind to grab the wheel from the floor and steer away from those boats on the bank at the last second! After all that work making the boat beautiful again... that would have been terrible. Did you go down with the PTP or are you keeping it there?
@@aj06bolt12r Oh gotcha. Nope everything the same. Just trying different props. The hook happened with a 30 cleaver, it rides pretty loose with a cleaver. I have a 28 chopper, 28 ET, and 30 chopper left to try. Propshaft is 1/2" above the pad. I have a hydraulic plate so I can adjust on the fly. But with the plate maxed I'm 1/2 above.
See the little white block on the bow? Quick disconnect.. can install and uninstall the troller in 2 minutes. No need in having it on there unless I’m actually bass fishing

I think letting off was why it got squirley on ya

That is what we call "chine walk"... Good times!
Love that Merc roar!
Wow. Hope to own one of these when I’m older
You handled it well. I’m not sure what I would do in that situation. Some say stay in the throttle, I’d probably let some (but not all) out.

QUICK DOWN TAP ON THE TRIM AND STAY IN IT.........TAP NOT SMASH ....LOL
You know how to keep the dreaded left-turn flip out from happening.
I almost learned a hard lesson.
Glad to see the correct advice on FB

Waves are always unexpected, especially at sea 😅
It's no fun to hook one. Did it for the first time last week. haha

@@aj06bolt12r Yeah that was a ride haha. Really glad there was no damage, would've been terrible, just getting the garage clean agin. PTP?
@@TNels PTP = Prop to Pad. Was wondering if you lowered the engine any after that hook experience?

BEEN THERE,DONE THAT.
Oh my, that’s sooo scary😲🥵🤷♀️😱
Bass boats have trolling motors...
