Hope you have a lovely birthday month! I have read six scorched roses and ashes, I would say it's not necessary to read before ashes but it introduced a character and their back story before you see them in ashes and the star cursed king. I did read it before and it was nice context, but it doesn't change the story of the main two books in the duology :)

Happy Birthday month! I have also heard that you should read Six Scorched Roses first because the characters are in that book, I think that was the reason. I'm not sure. so, maybe? my plans for Feb are to read all the romances, and I'm going to try some dark romance to see how I feel about it.

It doesn’t matter if you read Six Scorched Roses first. I read it after The Ashes & the Starcursed King and didn’t feel it made any difference. Six Scorched Roses has no direct impact on the series and is about minor characters.
