Having physical mediums of useful information is what’s important. I could care less about TikTok in all honesty, but having information taken away, by any political entity (left or right), is wrong and bars people from knowledge they could use to help themselves, whether that be intellectually, politically, socially, or in a straight up survival scenario.

Basically, buying books is an inherently political act. You are a keeper of what is becoming forbidden knowledge. Let us both try to emulate the elderly woman in Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, who elected to combust along with her books when the firemen came to torch them.
Honestly with the whole thing with tik tok being banned I bet a majority of people didn’t even realize books were too. If you type in ban the first thing to pop up would probably be tik tok and not the books.
The rediculous thing is that orwells books, somehow have been reinterpreted by the right to mean the oposite of what they do. Sure, most dont read them, just talk about them as if they did, but there is undoubtedly some new propaganda problems we face today, and my guess is that this js because today secrets are not hidden by not revealing them, but rather by overwhelming everyone with too much information, so much so that its hard to sort what is fact and what is fiction, and this forces people to become even more subjective then before. And then the relative comfort of many places means some people dont even have to face material reality because one way or the other their views dont feel like they effect anything, and so they might as well feel like they are right. As with any brainwashing, a bombardment of information daily is necessary, or else the spell will fade and people will realise, and with the internet, and the addictjve nature of social media, people are hooked to their phones not because they are forced to by the end of a gun, but because they are fkrced to by their own biology, which can make them think that they are the ones making the choice to consume the propaganda that shapes them through fear and hate. Thats just my guess anyway. But every washed brain can be made dirthy again- we just have to find the way and the method of pervention as well. Orwell and others gave us a blueprint, now we have to keep upgrading it- we dont need single geniouses, we need many people willing to have at least one good idea. Have a nice day
i did a extensive study on each of those books during school and mine are covered in annotations so it feels wrong to throw them away for that reason too
Any physical media really, though books are especially being targeted right now. I know not everyone does, but if you have the means to buy and store / preserve physical media then you should definitely do so!
Also, if you don’t have the means to buy them, go support your local libraries! They also have a wayyyy bigger archive of films/shows than most streaming platforms too.
I admire people who make collecting our history a hobby. I also respect people who wouldn’t give up a light life on the off chance all of our digital archives are simultaneously destroyed
I'm also dyslexic I can read but it takes me a stupid amount of time to read something/ I'm reading powerless (started at start of the month) and I've only just reached half way. but I want to read it to prove myself I can. i also use audilbe books really handy specially when travelling but reading a book feels your gathing more information and you love the characters more I think.
Some books you just can't find physical copies of because they were made digitally (example literally any Wattpad story ever unless of course it was a physical book and the author put it on Wattpad) this is why I am making the goal to own every Percy Jackson book 😅

I've got 100 different PDFs of books on multiple hard drives. I can read them on my phone while out or print out a 1000 copies if I like: you've got one copy that can be lost, stolen, burnt, ruined by water damage, is susceptible to beetles, moths, cockroaches, termites, and silverfish or a dozen other different catastrophes.
i’m so glad my school is still reading and doing extensive studies on “Fahrenheit 451” “animal farm” and “1984”. right now we are doing a study on “the crucible” and how it was written during the red scare.
Lmao, I never buy e books😭 I have about 300 ebooks downloaded but I always end up finding either a pdf file for it (which I screenshot in fullpage, save as pdf and then save to my books) or someone uploeads its file online. I could download 1984, farenheit 241, to k1ll a mockingbird etc for free by just doing a little searching lmao😭

True. But you don’t have to worry about that in the USA at the moment. They only ban books like that in middle and elementary schools (aka for kids cause they won’t understand them) you can always find them at a public library or store
i just download the ebooks and then i have the file there that's still less assurance than actually having the physical book but for me it's a good balance between convenience and preservation
Personally I don’t understand reading off of a tablet or phone-I use reading as a way to reduce screen time because I have a low attention span for anything else worthwhile 👍🏻

It's just so much easier on my eyes too. Plus, it makes for a really cute area of your home when you have a lot of books :)
