The Scandinavian might also be from your Scottish side. The Islands up north of Scotland was a part of Norway for over 500 years, before they were given away.
That said, Scandinavians and Finns had a lot of contact after they came to the US as well.

Finnish have identical siberian dna to sami and some native traces from the americas.

It seems pretty common for Finnish people to match with Scandinavia, Finland was part of Sweden for about 800 years. Central Asian also occurs a lot for finish people, this could indicate Sami heritage.

I think I read long time ago, that the Uralic languages (to which Finnish and Sami belong) had had very long time ago some interaction with the Iranian languages, because there were some words which came from there. Maybe then with the Iranian (or related) people, too?

I’m 50% Finnish,25% Scottish and 25% Irish. Good to meet you! My Finnish surname from my mother is Hakala. My family are Finnish American on the Finnish side, from northern MN and the other side I think are from the early colonies in America, from what I can trace.

Scandinavian is understandable, Finland was part of Sweden for hundreds of years and lots of Swedes moved to the west coast during those centuries, as well as some Finns to Sweden. So pretty mixed. Eastern and Western Finland have a pretty clearly defined divide when it comes to DNA. Or used to have, we are getting pretty mixed now as most people have moved to or near the bigger cities.

How about finding out also your maternal and paternal haplogroups? Especially the latter one - if tested in SNP level (single-nucleotide polymorphism) and not just in STR level (short tandem repeats, ie microsatellite) - would tell you hugely much about your long-term family history.

I have been using most of all the different DNA tests & receiving reports for three years now. I just did the most expensive upgrade for a Y-dna test & it says my haplogroup is so rare it's like never been identified before so I posted a message to the Finnish group (in Finnish...thank you google transcription). Seems like my paternal roots might be from there which is so fascinating to me I see the Norweigan more so on My Heritage though (more than yours) but I don't have anywhere near the amount of Finnish ancestry compared to your overall score either. I'm gona watch your video on fake trans allies now I'm curious to know what you are saying. I've had a few trans lovers when i was much younger. Nowadays it just seems different. Everything does it's so complicated hitting middle age (hence my dna testing) It's nice to see you doing all the dna research this young. That's what I wish i would have done. Take care

Hey there. Many Finns are 10-20 % Scandinavian, Scots too. Many Swedes and Norwegians have Finnish ancestry, especially in the North there are ancient Finnish minorities.

Scandinavians have mixed a lot with the peoples of the British isles so that could explain your Scandinavian part. Scandinavian dna may also be from an ancestor who is a Swedish speaking Finn

Actually Americans of Finnish descent tend to have settled near Americans of Scandinavian descent (upper Midwest), so there is a lot of admixture.

@@xander_k_ That is true, But it might come from Scotland, as Orkney and Shetland and some of the mainland used to be part of Norway.

I am 90,3 % scandinavian, but 9,7% finnish, if you come from Svealand ( midsweden) you almost always have 5 - 10 % finnish DNA. Same in western Finland, there is a lot of Swedish DNA and its all about our history.
But that you "Celtic" DNA but no English is intresting?

Finland and Sweden were one nation for centuries, roughly 1200-1809. Most Finns and Swedes have ancestry from each other (and it always pisses them off, in a friendly bantering way.)

      Roughly 1100 - 1809 ! Some say it started in 1009 to 1809 !! So that is 800 year's !!!

Your scandinavian percentage is more likely to come from your british side of the family... vikings relocated in the UK many centuries ago...i ve seen some other purely "english" people getting only irish/scottish/welsh along with scandinavian dna and no english!! Which means a combination of Celts with Vikings!

    • @xander_k_
      @xander_k_ ปีที่แล้ว +2

Most likely it’s from an actual Scandinavian ancestor directly from a Scandinavian country since Scandinavians settled in similar regions as the Finnish. (Minnesota, Wisconsin, the Dakota’s, etc.) and make up a significantly larger percentage of the population in the upper Midwest than Finn’s do. A lot of people that are “Finnish American” and have ancestors that settled in this region have some Scandinavian ancestry.
