Set in a 1930s block in the centre of Madrid, the aptly named Menta (meaning mint) features a very specific shade of pale green inspired by the one used by Prada since the 90s. The redesign involved relocating the kitchen to the central hallway, opening up the living area and creating a space for a custom floor-to-ceiling modular bookshelf to house the client’s large book collection. Translucent polycarbonate pocket doors divide the living and kitchen space when needed, whilst still allowing natural light to pass through. A series of strategically placed mirrors throughout enhance the sense of light and space, the largest of which is a multipurpose wall of mirrors at the entrance, containing a door to the bedroom, the laundry, general storage and integrated fridge for the kitchen. Through carefully considered spatial strategies and consistent materials, the team at gon architects have created a light, open and, above all, functional space.

Amazing! Love the fact the client stated they don’t cook much but has lots of books. So, a broken up kitchen and huge wall bookshelf were the priority. Also, the lighted glass covered bathroom vanity is a nice touch! 🟩⬛️

The storage solutions are fantastic in the kitchen and loungeroom.
Having a single toilet as part of an ensuite to the main bedroom is an awkward floorplan. When a guest needs to use the toilet they must enter via the bedroom.
I would have had a separate toilet with a pedestal basin (very small powder room) on the other side of the bathroom.

This is excellent "client-centric" work, which has considered the clients needs perfectly. I like the pocket doors too, a great way to allow the light throughout. As a designer, I would have picked up the colour of the original radiators too, somewhere, but that's just me. Very nice turn around of a small apartment.

How the architect managed to make the living room, bedroom and bathroom feel so spacious is an enviable acheivement. The strategic placing of the mirrors to both visually extend the walls and illumiate the apartment is such a big win. Well done!

Walls that are entirely mirrored, particularly that many of them, always feel like a shopping mall hair salon to me. And they just reflect each other-rather than a mirror that repeats a great view from an opposite window.

I would have said previously also that the bathroom being accessible only through the bedroom is abit off, however after living in abroad and having the only bathroom access from the primary in my apartment. I think the mirrors are overdone. For example it was a relief when the wardrobe doors were shown open as opposed to a bank of mirrors. Mirrors are confusing and not restful to the eye. Also the space above the washer dryer could have used some organization.

The spaces particularly the bedroom are very nice. The use of big windows, mirrors and glass sliding doors adds to the sense of space. That said, while I like that shade of green in contrast to the wood finish and black stone of the bathroom I think it kinda of gets lost next to the white walls, to the point that I feel like colors should have been flipped to be green with white highlights rather than the reverse.
The overall apartment space itself is a bit awkward what with the bathroom only accessible via the bedroom (never mind a messy kitchen!) and that only accessible through a hidden door. If I were to change one thing about apartment's layout, it would be that.

It's all about the client's needs - he said he didn't cook much and seemed to be a singleton. And bathroom being only accessible from the bedroom is no problem - invite only people who are close family members or really good friends to stay overnight. I'd take the apartment in a heartbeat though. It's right in the middle of a great neighbourhood in a great city and really beautifully done.

@1:35, that looks very much like one of the entrances to Piccadilly Circus underground station in London. The flat is in a fab location. @2:47, I am not a fan of open plan especially where it incorporates the kitchen, so the sliding doors are a great solution. I don't like all those mirrors - you can never get away from yourself - then there are the finger marks. @5:13, love it. @5:40, love that, too. I had all black walls in a windowless bathroom, but going completely black is a step too far for me. The cabinet is very stylish. Yeah, the transparent glass isn't going to leave much to the imagination. However, it's pretty easily solved with some sheers.

Architect: " How many mirrors do you want'?"
    Client: "Yes.""

The design is great and I love how client-centered it is. I was surprised to hear spanish, which I'm glad about, but the audio editing feels weird as a spanish speaker. Almost like it has been slowed down and sped up at some points? Anyhow, beautiful apartment :)

An entryway is the first impression guest will have of the home.
I was kind of surpised to see that the apartment's entry zone has no rug, no hooks for guests coats, no designited place for changing shoes.
In my view, that is not an inviting place for guest at all.
