  • In the Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle discusses temperance, one of the virtues of character. Temperance refers to moderation in the enjoyment of certain bodily pleasures. To exceed this moderation is to be intemperate and to over indulge in bodily pleasures. Aristotle notices the pain that an intemperate person goes through when they aren’t currently experiencing such pleasures and identifies intemperance as more blameworthy than cowardice, the vice associated with a deficiency of bravery. #aristotle #philosophy #nicomacheanethics

I love your vids, been on a bingeeee
and to be honest I think the fewest amount of times I've used the word temperance is in this very comment! Guess aristotle was in me straight out the womb... that sounded wrong
but on a real note that random comment at 3:59 caught me so off guard, your drawings and delivery of the content are so accurate but funny at the same time, there's no way you don't have a million subs yet

One follow up question, you mention touch and taste. What about music (sound)? Does it fall into this discussion of temperance?

Id say excesss pleasure in smell is described as bad because of apetite linked to an excess...glutony. Porn is bad because it is linked to an excess... lust - it's less important if that is of body or visial - its the hierarchy of what it points to, and whether that is the good.

Very unfocused, very confused author. Sounds like notes to a teacher, which is fair since he mentioned that in the opening.
