World has never seen a dominant player like that, nobody could beat him and I was suprised when he lose a set.

@@ahmedbinzahid6800 A Chinese player named Shang Kun. It was at 2015 Japan Open. ML beat him a lot in Chinese leagues, but Shang Kun beat him in that only meeting between them at International tournament.

Ma Long looks in his best shape in this tournament. Lim is a very competitive player. I did expect tight games and Lim winning 2 or 3 of them.

Nah! The Dragon missed a few easy forehands. During his prime, he would have made at least 1/2 of those shots he missed in this match. That would turn this match into a complete blowout.
The players who lost to the Dragon were no easy opponents and yet he executed his power and skills to a point that they had no chance of winning against him. Ma Long is an absolute TT wonder!

I just enjoy ML's backhand return of serve.
Lim brought his A game. But so did Ma.
One word...UNPHASED. Poor lim. He's incredibly good, but Ma Long is literally controlling the game.
Waldner having said Ma Long is like Roger Federer of table tennis doesn't seem to acknowledge him as the GOAT because Federer is only one of the all-time best along with Djokovic and Nadal now. Who knows? Perhaps, Waldner intended just that to include himself in the discussion of the GOAT.
Novak is the best in tennis. If he didn't behave like a stubborn immature kid during the pandemic, he would have at least 2 or more GSs to his total of 22. Rafa and Roger are great sportsmen but Novak is slightly better than both of them. Rafa's countryman, Carlos Alcaraz, is the one to watch for the next 10 years. At least!
Tennis is one of the rare sports where we know beyond reasonable doubt who the goat is and it is obviously not Federer.
However, I think that doesn't necessarily means Waldner thinks the same for Ma Long it's just possible that it is the most famous name he could think of. For example, I've only heard of Gretzky and Woods in their respective sports, but that doesn't mean they are actually goats

Ma Long is apparently unbeatable in his current shape.
No foreigner will touch the dragon this tournament. What I really want is a proper performance when he meets a team mate in the final. Fzd or WC cant touch ML when he's in dragon mode. That lobbing point was absolute message of fire.

FZD and WCQ train with him so they know his game fully and then they beat him on speed because he is older. But against other players Ma still plays better
Lim Jonghoon is not bad, he has just most convinient style of play for Ma Long. Against Ma Long you just have to play with styles of Fan Zhendong, Yuan Licen or Tomokazu Harimoto.
Other than Fan Zhendong, all of them will be blown away by this in form Ma Long. As of now, this Dragon is breathing fire.
@@benthekeeshond545 I don't think he will destroy. He will probably take game with score 4-3 or 4-2. The only player in history against whom Ma Long struggled is Wang Hao, their head to head score 18-18. So there is no Wang Hao no threat to Ma Long.

As Ma Long gets older, he’s playing like a pen hold player. Just block with the backhand and waiting to set up the forehand. His exp carried him, but I wonder if he can do this against the more consistent power players anymore. Lim showed he has much more power, but is very inconsistent.

I saw the same thing. Especially when he loop-drive the ball inside the table. Penholders are famous for that.
The beauty of ML's game is that it's adaptable to the situation. Playing forehand all balls is very physically draining, puts the pressure on you not to make any mistakes, and leaves you vulnerable to fast counter or backhand pressure.
If ML is able to stabilize with backhand until opponent makes a mistake or until he can put away the point with the forehand, then why not? ML's strength is his game control and consistency, he's not always trying to overpower his opponents all the time.
Besides I'm sure that he'd be more active on the backhand side if he needed to be. LJH never really got going so why change what's working already?
@@benthekeeshond545 In my opinion, he played the same way as he did all his life) He never had a strong backhand, and to be completely honest, he never had a crushing forehand. His only calling card is his stability. It's good that Chinese players appear, with their own strengths.

You forgot to mention there is a dark horse, the Chinese national TT coaches. They will decide who is going to be the Champion. The Dragon's performance so far is the best in this tournament but I won't be surprised if Ma Long lost to one of his teammates in this World Championships.
Ma Long and Harimoto are the only players who haven't dropped a single set this wttc :O

Zhang Jike was more interesting to watch, then todays Chinese machines (Ma, Fan, Lin, Wang).
A game of third ball attacks!!! Lim got taste of his own medicine. He basically thrives on fast third ball attacks and once you have figured how to deal with it(which ma long does so well. I’m really amazed how well ma long adapts to his opponents time and time again) it’s game over for Lim. He is very limited player and I am quite convinced that Lim will not stay at his current seed for very long.

Lim did not find any way to tackle Ma’s fastastic game. Harder and harder attacking was obviously not the right method. How about a more varied attacking game? Easy to discuss, nearly impossible to execute!
Lim Jonghoon is going to have to start trying other rubbers.

At this point in time, with the exception of missing a few easy forehands, the dragon is near his peak form. I won't bet against the Dragon in this World Championships. I don't think Wang Chuqin can overcome the roar of this awakened Dragon.
I am looking forward to the clash of the titans between Fan Zhendong and Ma Long. The replay of the 2017 World Singles Championship.

Lim has lost his consistency. He is capable of taking 2 games off ML
Not against a Fiery Dragon. The Dragon missed a few easy forehands. During his peak years, those were 90% kill shots.
