I was born and raised outside of Philadelphia, but my mother was from Havana, Florida. I have cousins outside of Quincy in Greensboro. Quincy is a nice little town to stop in. There’s great little greasy spoon on the main drag on the way out of town called Maryland Fried Chicken, great fried shrimp, chicken gizzards and chicken livers! My understanding is a lot of the wealth of Quincy came from people who invested very early in a little company called Coca Cola out of Atlanta back in the day.
Ah Quincy, Can't believe I watched this whole thing... yall driving streets I drive on the daily, lol. Yall missed our christmas parade this year, it was bomb. Much love!
I never met my grandfather, he was murdered in Quincy, Florida before I was born. I've always wanted to visit this town and meet his side of the family. Maybe I'll go one day soon.
It's a beautiful small city(not a town) and has an award for being a historic city(how can you not research the places you visit) the county is 60 percent black not just quincy (which is more like 80 percent black) stores and help can be found everywhere but they aren't "hood" or "ghetto" and don't have "hangout" spots. It's not dangerous at night and if you need help ask for it. Stores and hospitals are open 24 hours there. If you visit again next time leave your stereotypes behind. The people are mostly kind if you respect them they will respect you.
Quincy Fla is my birth town. My family's birth place, Quincy Florida. With family heritage in Blountstown Florida and Mobile Alabama. Real native negro Indian folks.
I lived and work in Quincy back n the early mid 80's i was residing n Miranna Fla driving back and forth to Quincy for 2nd job..due to the commute i moved to Quincy
Lord I remember old fla when you drove for miles with out seeing a house. And old dirt roads I lived on a dirt road sandy. Goffer turtles was every where. So was rattle snakes. I could go pick blacberrys in my back yard we all spoke a southern dialect I mean true southern dialect , things ain't like that any more before back before the 1970s life was so much slower and grand before the Yankees started coming,,,
Shout to my blood line of Quincy fla and family members who moved out of town after the tobacco industry went under back n da day. The Johnsons, and The McCrays...etc. My great grand dad Mr John Johnson used to own 88 acres on highway 90 for a very very long time..til them white people dwindled my family The Johnson's, out of their land and inheritance in the 70's ..they say do to taxes..My GGD worked hard for his land for it back in the late 1800's, earned money, and bought his land after servitude to the white settlers who took control of Quincy and its resources.
My hometown. Changed a lot but somnethings still look the same. At 22:20, if you had gone straight, down that hill, you would have gone to our old house.
17:28 If you ever make it back go check out the Quincy Music Theatre.(on your right with the big LEAF sign) I went there to watch a friend in rehearsal for Fiddler on the Roof and they let me sit in the upper balcony. Halfway through rehearsal I heard someone twisting the doorknob to the outside stairs and knocking as well. I got up and went to open it but from inside there are 2 boards bolted across it so I tried telling them I cant open it that it was sealed. It stopped for a few minutes then started up again. I just ignored after that. When rehearsal was over I went down to the stage and told them someone was trying to open the stage door up top and 5 people looked at me with big eyes. My friend took me outside and showed me that there was no staircase leading up to that door it had collapsed 25 years ago and killed someone. I was also old about the 4 seats they never sell because "visitors" show up from time to time there. A very haunted history there worth looking into.
I bought a small farm in Havana an while moving in I needed a plumber. I went to the feed store an asked if they knew any. They replied you want a white plumber or black. My right hand to god this is true story
Jose screw the Politically correct BS. You are doing a great service to people. As you stated your self Realestate agents aren’t honest and try to make everything look pretty. For example like my self I was looking to relocate to Florida and what if I was planning to live to Naples and didn’t know about the red tide. Imagine someone spending half a million and then finding out the next month about the red tide. I feel your doing a great job showing the real truth . Keep up the great work 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
YOU WOULD NOT BEALIVE how many people HAVE DONE IT RECENTLY buy a house to only find out they get so sick they cant be there. TRUST ME.. I got sick as crap down there.. only got better when i left.
Eric, I agree with you. Jose’s video on the “Red Tide” issue in Naples was a real eye opener. It’s serious and you’ll never hear about it from any Tourist Bureau.
Actually it's a disserve to make videos like this that put cities down and misjudge them. It doesn't help anyone to give more negative feedback on a really nice place than necessary. If you don't have anything good to say just don't say anything at all.
Love your videos, southern and central Florida has became so stressful.Where are some good places north of talahassee and south of knoxville where growth is in check maybe a place where there is about 100 too 200 people move to per year..very low growth but gets under 4inches of snow per year and less?
Have you done video in tallahassee? Quincy..interesting..thanks..well one minute later while watching you answered my question. It was kinda funny. Like 30 seconds after i post it you say..we gotta do tallahassee..thanks
Ok , in 2 hours starts here in Germany the new year 2021 ! Let's say goodbye to the old year full of crazy events and start 2021 with positive energy and an end to the Covid pandemic ! In the spirit of all a happy new year or a happy new year 2021
YES! The illegal dumping in Gadsden County is everywhere. We drove up there today because I wanted to see Trulieve's headquarters. Cheap land and cheaper labor getting them started maybe. I wonder if their presence up there is helping local economy at all. Then we drove over to Havana and left soon after because the plywood factory there really stinks.
Take a trip to Middleburg Florida right outside Jacksonville and you will see Lots of Racists, they even have the confederate flag parade, Def Klan country I’m black And stopped for Gas and got looks from the locals like I was an alien and even had a man jump at me as if to provoke a fight.
Thats not rural I remember when fla, was mostly swamp timber land and most of the roads were dirt sandy roads people lived far apart from, one another and spoke a southern dialect. We helped one another in times of need crime was almost unheard of people went to church on Sundays. But all that changed around 1979. The Yankees flooded into fla, and brought T her racist ideas and brought crime and dope and all kind of things we didn't believe in tore down the old graddady oaks paved over the dirt roads and built shopping malls and concrete. It was once a Beutifull place to,live,,,
