Probably one of the last of the seemingly endless string of James Brown-based 45s I bought almost every other week in my teens Then graduated to LPs. They were coming out that frequently back then. Fred Wesley and the fellas pay tribute tacitly and directly to Blues and Jazz as they were always doing anyway. Here they quoted the methods and attacks of solos of Pharaoh Sanders and Coltrane. The arrangements are homages to, Ellington, Basie, Lunceford, ALL the great big band leaders from before; yeah! Everything from backwoods Black Blues to Progressive Avant Garde in one package. GO Fred Wesley. The musical love and memories are priceless. Live in POWER My Brother. As a young music student back then, it's like time stopped when I hear this: Down home Family Baby! Thank God for You and of course JB.
This has been floating around on a couple of channels, I think it should have replaced the regular version on the 1990 Anthology release as a nugget, just my opinion, glad you like it 👍 Footnote; this escaped into the public domain courtesy of one of the band members who was "peddling music on the side" 😄
@@SoulOnTopJBthanks for the info…I was wondering what this was sourced from. It’s only been on my radar a year or so. Do you know if there’s any more where this came from?
José Trepat (Disc jockey) Esto es realmente "Funky" y del mejor. Es lo que se escuchaba ya en "Don Quijote" y "SILVY'S", las dos discotecas de Castelldefels en 1973-74. El personal se agolpaba en la pista!!
Marshall Allen of The Sun Ra Arkestra sounds similar to the opening sax salvo of this one, as well as like Pharaoh Sanders. The recurring horn section ensembles conjure up visions of the oncoming HUGE influence and rushing surge past of THE TRANE. Above all, THE SoulTRANE preceded Soul Train by about 20 years. John Coltrane said that we as musicians were all essentially drawing from basically the same WELL.
This is the raw version before all the vocals and over-dubs were added 4 months later in NYC, then it was shortened, omitting the final Fred Wesley solo. It's unissued and not available, unless you have something similar to trade 😄
I’ve been searching for this on an album or a CD and I’ve never been able to find it. And it’s not on Spotify. Is there any place we could find this on the CD or an album?
@@PaulDA2000 A bunch of CD's which included out-takes, jams, raw versions was sold to a somebody when a band member was in London many years ago. Here is another, th-cam.com/video/fF9oO4Sto1c/w-d-xo.html Makes you wonder why it wasn't included on the CD release.

Dear Soul On Top, hi,
This is only instrumental session beat isolated. FANTASTIC! This is of "soul, spirit" of "James Brown Work.
This the the original take, over dubs and vocals were added at a later session

You have to wonder what else is in the vault that only the privileged can get to hear.
Fred Wesley and Sun Ra, both from Alabama! Influences obviously here!
I take it that this version is actually longer than what it is, given the way it ended.
No, this is how the track ended on the acetate
Acetate? 🤔 @@SoulOnTopJB
Sound so good don’t you agree ✌🏿🎼🎶🎤🎧💯

I don´t like remix, but... this is AMAZING!!! Congratulations. Marcelo Baglione from Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, Rio
Hi, this is not a remix, it was the original cut, minus the over dubs.
Same Beat is the cut ,
correct?
