I have heard this over a thousand times since it was recorded in the USA ... and still find new things.. a sign of a masterpiece by a master. Khan saheb remains unmatched for me...
A musical wonder of supreme ethereal level, a true pride of Bengal, listening him is to freely lithe my body with eternal blow of all-soothing breeze of gangetic plain. --‐‐----------------‐------‐ So blissfully fortunate are we!
The print New York Times, reporting Khansahib’s death, characterized him as a ‘sublime musician’. He was…and teacher. Though ailing, he gave lessons on the day of his death.
What's the difference between Sindhu Bhairavi and Bhairavi?
9 ปีที่แล้ว +14
+Sai Prasad Rm Bhairavi sticks to the tones of Bhairavi thaat (Western Phrygian), whereas Sindu Bhairavi is a harmonically less restricted version of the same basic framework - all 12 chromatic notes are permissible, in various hierarchies
Actually, if you listen carefully, Shuddh Bhairavi will typically not show Shuddh Dha or Tivra Ma at all and Shuddh Re only as an ornament (gRmgRg, rS). At least according to Maihar Gharana style. I have a lovely song taught by Khansahib in Shuddh Bhairavi that illustrates this clearly. @@geethanjalibalaji5232
Shuddha Bhairavi is of Bhairavi Thaat but Sindhu Bhairavi is of Asavari Thaat . Because Sindhu Bhairavi uses a very dominant Shudh Rishav but Shudh Bhairavi uses Shudh Rishav as a part of ornamentation only....

I don't know the ABC of classical music, however when listen this in eyes closed it take me to a different world of joy and peace.
Isn't this his early HMV LP recording (late 50's or early 60s) with Chandranandan on the other side?
YES. most probably.
On tabla, Pt. CHATUR LAL.
No, it is a different performance with Chatur Lal on tabla. The LP had a gat in Dadra.
The other side had Pilu and the introduction was by Yahudi Menuhin
