My dad lived to almost 88 and drove until he died. He drove in his car. He was an excellent driver. I love this veteran. I wonder if he served in Korea. My dad served in WWII. He would have been 96.

I enjoyed this video very much. I can imagine you made that 90 year old Veteran’s day. He was such a sweetheart and so eager to share his knowledge of his home town. Him witnessing someone’s head cut off caught me off guard too 😆

Oh my gosh, Adam, when you continue to visit more small towns, please try and find some of the older folks to speak to like the gentleman in this video. It's fascinating to see the towns and imagine how it once was, but to actually hear from someone who lived while the town was still thriving is invaluable. Unfortunately, they will not be around for too long and we need to hear their story. They are part of our history. Americana. Thanks for sharing these towns with us!

I say thank you and shake their hand. I can never repay you for what you have given us. Thanks again.

As a FL native and an avid amateur explorer for many years ( not on social media- just for me) I really appreciate ppl that can find the same enjoyment out of these little nooks and crannies in our state. Florida really is so diverse- in nature too. The beaches are nice ( west coast is better). Springs are even more beautiful and there’s nothing like walking under an old live oak canopy.

The gentleman who invited you and Micah to sit in the chairs and talked to you about his life and experience living in that community is a treasure. He reminded me so much of my Dad (who I lost several years ago).He loved the simple life and the old ways and he was always happy to share his knowledge of nature, and wildlife, and the flowers, trees, fruits, and berries with anyone who wanted to learn and listen. My grandparents used to live in Okahumpka!! They had 500 acres and most of it was woods that we played in as kids and then they also had cow pastures! I remember hanging out at their house and my grandpa would get phone calls from the neighbors saying one of his cows were out again, and we’d load up and go track it down! It was fun times, they had multiple small lakes on the property that we used to fish and swim in.

I figured that when you paid the requested amount of coins, that was all that was needed. Anyway, I was calling a girl, so I really was not concerned about how pay phones worked. Grew up in this area in a little town similar to these but it has been swallowed up by the same development and most of it erased...from existence. So glad to see you documenting this stuff for posterity. BTW, that was not a tornado siren, it was to call volunteers to the fire department because of an emergency.

Aaron, I would have guessed either the fire alarm or a nuclear siren. There are two nuclear reactors in Florida according to google. I was trying to search if that town was close to one.I live 12 miles from one and there is a siren close by on my road.

@NY tikibar I grew up in the same county, about 25 miles from this location. My uncle was chief of our volunteer fire dept for about 40 years. My dad, another uncle, and many neighbors/friends in the local community were also members. 2 rings of the siren meant grass fire (lots of hay fields and cow pastures at the time), 4 rings meant structure fire. There were other codes that were phased out as pagers and take-home scanners came around and the county eventually took over fire services as more housing development came along.
