Jammin on the Jimi Hendrix song Hear My Train A Comin'. This was one of the first riffs I ever learnt. Jimi played Hear My Train A Comin differently every time, so my version is a mixture of all the Hendrix versions I've been listening to.
Hear My Train A Comin' is definitely a great track to jam to, I can understand why Jimi always included it in his live show.
The gear I'm using is my home made 1961 relic Stratocaster which has Fatboy Guitars MC-68 pickups... into a Maxon CP-101 compressor... into a Budda Wah upgraded with tropical fish capacitors... into a home made BC-108 Fuzz Face clone with input buffer... into a home made LPB-1 clean boost... into a 1977 Fender Twin Reverb (silverface) with WGS speakers (WGS 12C/s and WGS ET 65).
It took me three years to build my relic Stratocaster and get it right. The real icing on the cake is the pickups which are made by Fatboy Guitars. They're the MC-68's which are based on late 60's Stratocaster pickups. These really get you the Hendrix sound, and every pickup combination sounds great. You really get that chiming tone which Jimi Hendrix got at his Royal Albert Hall and Woodstock and Berkeley performances...
I'd heard a lot about tropical fish capacitors, how they are a 'must' for vintage tone, so when I found some I got me a few... Well, I can say that they definitely give you the unmistakable character of Jimi Hendrix's Wah Wah sound. I wouldn't say they're any better than the capacitors my wah came with, they've just got the right tonality which is perfect for any Hendrix sound you want to get. Tropical fish caps are rare, so if you find some in the values you need for your wah, snap em up right away!
My Fuzz Face has BC-108 silicon transistors and has a totally transparent input buffer so that it works well with the Wah Wah. I'm going to be making some of these to sell soon, so if you like what your hearing, and would like one, keep tuning in to Pearl Blues for more information which will be coming out later this year...
My Fender Twin Reverb is a 1977 and is completely stock except for the new WGS speakers. Warehouse Guitar Speakers are really great upgrades for any amp, and they have many different models to choose from. I have a 12 C/s which is a Jensen C12N type speaker with a smooth cone for slightly less top end (good in a Fender Twin) and an ET-65 which is a Celestion type speaker. The 12C/s captures the throaty depth and warmth of the classic Jesnsen speaker while the ET-65 captures the punch and articulation of the classic Celestion speakers, so this is a great combination for a guitarist who wishes emulate tones from the differing set-ups of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. And since upgrading to these speakers my amp sits much better in the mix than it ever did before...
I don't think Hear My Train A Comin' is covered by many well known guitarists. Although Randy Hansen and Stan Skibby both do great versions. Perhaps it is too much of a ''Jimi Hendrix song'' for another artist to adapt and change it. I think Jimi said everything that needed to be said with this song...
    Jimi Hendrix spielen in Deutschland.

One logistical problem in the comment is that Machine Gun and Hear My Train a Coming didnt hit the set until 1969 which means that there's no way it would have been in the 67 set which was Are You Experienced and other Material but point taken if you saw Jimi that's living on a large level in the music audience world... thanks for sharing but revisit to the right venue and year. By metaphor the airplane in 69 was a world of difference from 67 so was Jimi. Jimi was Next Gen Jimi by 69

+Kyler J Thank you, I'm glad you noticed the string bending, it's something I've spent a lot of time working on. I think a lot of the top guitarists today neglect string bending in comparison to say Jimi and others, like SRV, BB King and Albert King etc. But a lot of modern guitarists have their guitars set with a low action, and a low action makes string bending harder (in my experience)...

Entirely! When you learn from someone like Jimi you quickly learn that he isnt a speed demon. Hes all soul
