Hello Sir. Good to see Mazaki san forging. I would like to to where he is located in Sanjo City. Any address do you have for his workshop? That will be very helpful. Would like to visit his workshop next year. Thank you so much
Great video, a real pleasure to watch this knife take shape. I have a few questions. The quench seemed very quick is this so you still have time to get out the warp before fully hardened? Also do you coat the knife in the clay before tempering? Thank you
If you watch the full speed clip, you see him quench in whatever solution he uses, then turn around to quench in another solution. I do this method with some of my knives depending on the type of steel. Sometimes it is beneficial to quench in water to bring your blade temp down quick enough to harden, but then finish you quench in a slower quench oil to avoid cracking the blade. I’m 99% sure that’s what he did. 👍🏼
It is actually rare to see a knife forged and sharpened by one person
I think Mazaki will be a legend
Jiro?
Miyazaki Kajiya also does "everything" by himself, at a very high/master-level.
@@Reza-nz2re yeah Jiro is one of them.
I wish I could have seen the final finished knife. I love the way the Japanese do cold forging, which is a lost art in the West.
I just bought one of his gyutos last week and it's amazing.
same. Its a work of art.
This is making the wait for my mazaki gyuto so much harder.
Obvious skill and dedication to his craft, but what blew my mind was him CHISELING his kanji!!
I was thinking the same!
Yikes. Might want to get some PPE grinding metal knives like that.
High Quality knife
Great video and great skill of a young blacksmith.

What will be the price of these knives???

Fantastic
So he is tempering it when he is holding it over the coals with the squirty bottle?
He’s drying off the clay mixture he just painted on. The knife has not been hardened yet, so no tempering.
When you see him sprinkling water on the knife he is indeed tempering it.
Dancing droplets indicate the temperature of blade

Production efficiency and productivity are the worst. Is there any reason to make such a knife?
Lucky for you there are plenty of cheap Chinese-made knives made with maximum efficiency at minimum-wage factories.
