As a guitar player, these guys who play 6 and 8 string basses scare the shit out of me. Those bass string are massive and the reach required on those wide necks is just freaky wide. This bloke is wicked by the way!
I play 5 string bass and I can't understand how you guitarists play with such thin strings and narrow string spacing! Guess it's just a matter of getting used to an instrument.

Earl is so good that I've noticed that he either inspires other bass players or discourages them! At the time of the recording of this video, this was a hell-a-vah level to have achieved at the age of 18! Those who have ears, let them hear!
Hey no problem man, from the perspective of someone who grew up listening to gospel/hymns in an African-American environment this solo/piece really touches home. The way he puts together the chords and melody is very skillful and brings out the emotion of the song. I think it always nice to have positive dialog, your view point is well taken. Check this out if you ever have time "Give thanks Anaysha Figueroa" Have a blessed week man.
This has been one of the most intriguing bass seletions and executions there of I have ever heard in my life and I'm a bass player of 48 years! That's was original and very well done!!!!!
Hey, Earl! Thanks for blessing us with that extraordinary piece! It is amazing! Also thank Cairnchilo for me for hooking it up! I'm still blown away by this video as the first time every time I check it!
Probably the sweetest and most pleasant bass solo I've heard. I wish more bass solos were like this instead of jumpy ones. I didn't recognize "Give thanks with a grateful heart"; I thought he was playing a love song.
A bass instrument in the hands of a master like this guy is one of the sweetest sounds, whether it is solo or is being accompanied. I guess it's to each his own.
What mad about it. He's just messing around. This guy is good. As far as a superior player and soloist is concerned, check out Federico Malaman who is arguablys one of the finest bass players in the world today.

To the young man playing bass in this video I don't know you but just want to encourage you to always GIVE THANKS in all you do!!! GOD BLESS!
Well not only did he show you he could play chords and make them sound real good he also shows you that he can pick around as well. Honestly it sounds good.
Wow!!! I love seeing real musicians make positive statements about this incredible bassist!!! What Earl has displayed in this beautiful rendition is a master piece of creativity that I have not seen in a yet unknown bassist from South Africa making a mark and blessing us with this entertaining piece! God bless you, Earl!!!
I never heard nobody at the Guitar Center give it up like this! What Earl is doing is giving us something and I, for one, appreciates it! After all, why do we develop our gifts that God gave us? Do we call it showing off or is a tool to lift spirits? In the bible David played a stringed instrument for a grieving King Saul and it brought him out of grieving! I am delighted every time I view this video and hear this incredible piece of mastery and I visit often because it's in my favorites!

Thank you Tony. Reading this back, I'd like to add that I make a difference between mastering MUSIC and mastering an instrument. A bass is a wooden plank with some vibrating metal attached. Learning to make that plank do what you want is just a motor skill which any heatlhy determined person can master over time. Mastering music as a whole, is something different and infinitely more complicated. I think MuscleDad talks about mastering music while drudeken means mastering the bass guitar.

They use those basses with more than 4 strings only because they think it makes them look cool.

God gave us all talent of some sort and some people put tremendous effort into development and may never be discovered! Well said, MuscleDad420!
Your friend is one talented guy. If anything I can say, could you suggest to him to look into Markbass cabs and/or heads?
They Have 1000x more clarity then Trace Elliot rigs.
Incredible ! .. I'd love to say that it's inspiring, but when I see playing like this and realize how much further I have to go, it makes me want to just give up .. Great stuff !
I love that bass tecnique=D, you play with the 8 degrees pitch! =)

Really nice work. Very talent player, great melodic piece ...
That was stupendously performed! BRAVO!
Killer bass player, and the bass has no boundaries.
