Every religion has their own tradition. I believe it is jewish tradition to celebrate this way... It's beautiful. Different from all the other weddings in the world....I watch it every day . It is a mitzvah to dance (mitvah tantz in Yiddish) to dance at a wedding, and to dance with the bride.
It is a sash used as a belt. The purpose of holding it as the Rebbe dances is because he cannot hold the bride's hand, so he holds one end and she the other. After that the Rebbe dances with the bridegroom.
