This is the last piece my band director is going to conduct at my school before he leaves. It makes me sad every time I listen to this piece because the piece was written about a boy who’s going off to war, maybe to never see his family again. The parallels between the two situations that were faced make this a rightful last piece for my director.

Had one of the best tuba teachers on the planet, John Olah. Told me before district evaluations "play the lower octave." Best advice ever. Young tuba players take note. Hit the low F.

Oh Danny boy the pipes the pipes are calling
From glen to glen and down the mountain side
The summer's gone and all the flowers dying
'Tis you 'tis you must go and I must bide
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy oh Danny boy I love you so
But when ye come and all the roses falling
And I am dead as dead I well may be
Go out and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an ave there for me
And I will hear tho' soft you tread above me
And then my grave will warm and sweeter be
For you shall bend and tell me that you love me
And I will sleep in peace until you come to me
Remember 1916. Never forget that Easter Week.

Everyone is being very appreciative and serious here so I'll start by saying that this is a beautiful arrangement and performance of a classic well-loved piece, and I especially love the Euphoniums in this.
That being said, I thought it hilarious at 3:40 that homeboys oboe and mr. timpani are just sitting there during the climax with nothing to do.

The only part of the whole piece is the cymbal roll. Us percussionists often have long breaks doing nothing but counting bars. Seems almost wrong in a [aid gig you receive the same $$ as the strings & woodwind which are playing most of the time.

Matt Bell If this is a comment about the oboes wishing the balance of the band....that’s the way Grainger wrote. Band is soft, and oboes are in the bottom of their register. They will stick out, rather like a bagpipe, and that’s what Grainger intended.

So whoever wrote "You Raise Me Up" definitely plagiarized a bit from this tune right?

    • @user-cu6um3wx9c
      @user-cu6um3wx9c 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Well, it was based on the folk tune that this piece itself was based on, so they both plagarized

LOOK: Where in America do these guys hang out? Why are there no black musicians? Do blacks not want to play that music? Or what?

If this guy is the conductor why doesnt he tell the band to do it in the English way?
There really should not be any slowdowns and pauses in this song. Just straight forward. No 'milking' of the song and its phrases.
Do it the straight forward English way. Itll come out more beautiful.
