"I cannot make it through September, without a battle..." God. There is no way this song could've been improved, it is perfection. I am such a fan of the autumn-y, burnt orange feeling I get when I listen to this.
my BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
What's not to like about this song? The intro with it's raging drums and guitar noise creating a state of inner chaos, followed up honest and heartfelt lyrics about depression. Then of course the instrumental outro part which to me sounds like a turning point towards better times. Calm and hopeful. Easily one of the most beautiful and dynamic songs ever written.
The way that I Want Wind To Blow transitions into this song is just amazing. I actually love it when the transition catches me off guard and I get startled from the sudden burst of fuzz. Long live Phil Elverum.
I was fully invested in early 2000 rap until I happened to hear this in my friends car while he ran into a gas station...I even remember the exact place. I felt a wave come over me and It seemed as if my brain was slightly re-programmed. Turns out some regular guy named Phil would change my life's direction like a fuckin cross-current. I even traveled to Vermont to see his new project (at the time) MT Eerie in an old barn while having NOTHING in common with any of the other fans thanks Dubbs

1:29 that one guitar lead is just so crushing and beautiful. so many things, like the insane intro and godly outro and the screams in the middle, just make this song perfect, and this one part somehow just adds so much to it.
This song gives me chills and the album is one of the best ALBUMS ever created, it really was a stroke of genius. I used to walk my dog at night and listen to this album and the walks always went much longer then intended bc there was something so intagibley beautiful about walking alone at night in the cold crisp october air w that smell of autumn leaves lingering in the air..the album effected me so profoundly.
This song is basically describing my struggles of last year.....When he mentions that he could not pass September without a battle, that was my never ending conflict between me and my mother....When he faced death, That was me when my father had passed away. September of 2015 was a dreadful time for me.....I was depressed and close to committing suicide. I no longer felt a sense of importance of even living. I was ignored by everyone, and often lead to me crying every night in my bed.
I'm not even closer to your pain but in (Not necessarily September) but the last two months of the year, i discovered my ex gf (gf at the time) was cheating on me, so she spent the last months of 2017 trying to stay with me even when she was in love with someone else, so I left her with her wounds because she was killing me. This song was and is my medicine at this moment. So in a way, i kinda understand the feel.
Will always be one of my favorite albums of my entire life. This year something came over me to listen to this and the September line caught me at the perfect time, as I'm battling addiction again this year. love this album
This song always brings me back to college, alone on my camp chair, a smoldering cigarette in my hand, an empty beer at my side, while the party beyond my door goes on
god damn. god DAMN I'm starting to listen to this album and this song is just completely different from what I've heard so far. There's just so many layers to it
there might be an end to some certain things, things that bring you pain maybe, but overall in the grand scheme of things when you really zoom all the way out and take a million steps back and really give it some thought and consideration: there's no end
This whole album hits you like a fucking truck after a devastating breakup, the lyrics on every song are such a palpable representation of the feelings that occur and the agony experienced especially when you’re the one who can’t let go
A bit of a weird idea but most of the lyrics remind me a lot of what Asuka experienced during the End of Eva (like most of the lyrics after "I faced death"). (SPOILERS) Like, it could describe her final battle with the eva series, to succumb to death even after experiencing such a powerful, almost triumphant battle. And imagine coming back to life, in instrumentality, not even properly alive, just in some jelly-like state surrounded by a sea of voices. Presumably, you can finally understand others in this state - but you are not yourself - you are only others. You still want to be alive, in the real world: i'm still flesh i hold on to awful feelings " i'm not dead there's no end my face is red my blood flows harshly my heart beats loudly " And you come back to life in a red sea: " my chest still draws breath i hold it i'm buoyant there's no end " And you see the boy who caused all this, the only other person in the world at that moment. What do you do?
I can totally see this. I recently watched Evangelion and I feel like so many melancholic songs can be connected directly to it. Pyramid Song by Radiohead sounds almost exactly like Human Instrumentality and the third impact. I like this connection to Asukas death, it actually works so well.
@@dimwitted-fool Yea Thursday does that from time time. LIke their outro to "Turnpike Divides" takes from the song "X-French Tee Shirt" by Shudder to Think
I thought that at the beginning, but now I think it's a song about failed suicide attempt from drowning. It makes sense when connected with the previous song on the album, "I want wind to blow", where he is on a boat which is almost in one place because of no wind. Not to mention the lyrics "my chest still draws breath i hold it", if he was hanging himself he wouldn't be able to survive (well unless he didn't hang himself correctly).
Go Phil. What the F___ is WTF? Why do so many people now express themselves through acronyms? Seems lazy, if you don't like the music you should just probably leave and find something else on youtube that you might enjoy. Or, if you feel like stating your opinion, do it, but elaborate and be nice. Personally, I think this is great!
I have to know what these words mean, they don't make sense to me. What current state of the Microphones do you find annoying? You mean Mount Eerie's recent work? And you're just randomly saying your opinion of them on an old Microphones song for seemingly no reason? And then you randomly use some words to describe yourself that have seemingly nothing to do with anything? What does Sleep > Argument mean at all? What does Hit me mean in that context?
Intelligent people understand. When music gets to your ears, it's good. When music gets to your mind, heart and soul (at the cost of your ears) - then, it is amazing.
