Your "Typical SSL eq moves" were so inspiring. What about a whole TH-cam about that? I think we are many bedroom producers that mix on some kind of SSL VST having absolutely no real experience 🙂
Thank you, Morten! Much appreciated, I am happy to read I inspired something in you. It will sound like a shameless plug but I cannot stress enough that on my Patreon there are hundreds of hours of master classes in which we focus on a lot of topics like this one. Feel free to take a look at patreon.com/arizzoschettino - I know I am bragging but it could really be a great way for you to meet a big class of people studying with me and access a lot of master classes. Once again thanks for the nice words!
Also when showing the harmonics added by the compressor ratio ratios we can clearly see theres harmonics on 2:1 but do you consider 4:1 to have any harmonics being it only shows a line as far as harmonic content?
Hi Preston! The 4:1 also has harmonics but probably since the ratios have different threshold points, the harmonics changed in relation to these offsets (guessing what happened by memory and not from the video :))
the one thing i didnt understand is I get with GC on you can add or subtract harmonics while maintaining the gain structure but do you still get harmonic with GC off?
Thank you for the excellent lesson and plugin introduction. I think it has a lot of vibe and feels legit. What do you think about that the developer included the bus compressor and not a dedicated channel compressor? Thanks a lot. Cheers
You're most welcome and I am thankful for the fact that it worked for you and you let me know! I had a talk with Sonimus right after I tried the plug-in for the first time and suggested that a Dyn section was what the unit naturally needed, in my opinion. The actual comp works great on channels thanks mostly to the dry wet knob, but two more modules for exp/gate and comp would be a blessing. They gathered my feedback and it looked like they wanted to go with it but as usual, it's all classified and we'll see :) fingers crossed! 🤞
@@arizzoschettino Hey, that doesn´t sound too bad to me :) I´m asking as I got no experience with this company whatsoever. I really wonder if this - if they may expand it - could exchange the SSL 4K E from Plugin Alliance. Could you compare those two? Thank you for your reply. Cheers
@@nichttuntun3364 you're welcome! They're both great tools and can be used to make any mix great, no doubts. I haven't clicked much with the PA versions although I like their concept. I'd go for Satson and SatsonCS with the occasional Burnley when you need that Neve vibe. Sonimus plug-ins sounded more as I was expecting things to interact and gel together, in a desk.
@@arizzoschettino thanks for your feedback. I think I have to demo it. The fact they also make channel and bus summing plugins is interesting. Could result in a great console feel. Cheers
No harmonics in the eq, yet it's an emulation? Also only having the bus comp is a HUGE limitation. It would have been great if you were able to switch between the channel and bus comp. I already have 10 SSL bus compressors and have very little need for one on a channel strip. Not a fan of the plugin. I don't really like their console emulations either. I put them across a mix once and was very disappointed with the results. There are much much better SSL style channel strips and bus compressors out there. Plugin Alliance, Slate Digital, and Waves just to name a few. All three are quite a bit better. Just my opinion of course.
Hi Matthew! Thanks for watching the video and taking the time to extensively let me know your thoughts. I did run a same-mix-different-SSL video series, years ago, which covers UAD, Plugin Alliance and Waves. What's your favorite SSL 4000e/g channel strip emulation at the moment... and what is it that you like the most about it?
@@arizzoschettino Hello Alberto, thanks for making it hahaha! I mix and master for a living so for me it's really about speed. I don't really use "channel strips" per se but I do use a modular workflow. So my fav SSL would be Slate Digital in VMR. I use VMR and iZotope "mothership" plugins as my go-to tools. I like that I only have to open 1 plugin and I have everything I need. I know you can do that with a more standard channel strip but then you are limited to just that "flavor". With a modular workflow, I can swap things out. :-D
Haha Venice beach Sunset behavior. It takes one to know one. Great video!
Hi Rick, thanks for your comment, I appreciate knowing you liked the video... and that you got what I meant ;)
You make it interesting and fun, not to mention useful. Thank you!
Many thanks, Joe! 🙏 You made my day! Super appreciated,

Hi Preston! Yes you do get it anyway, along with the gain increase.
