    Perfect guest, great bloke and worth a patreon membership. My 2 cebts, zebs dead on, soon they will mount thermals on drones and spot them with AI. As a hunter we choose our pursuit, and some people will opt for the easier option, the solution I see is making thermal zones for some hunters and non thermal zones for hunters that want the challange. Some people call a guided hunt on private from a truck a "trophy", I would say a thermal shot deer is in the same category. We should do what we can to preserve the pursuit and improve the qualoty of the game. Thanks zebb for your continued advocacy and content mate

    Great job getting your opinion out there on the negative impact on thermals being used. Unfortunately people don’t see the journey of life as a hunter as a necessity to grow your self in patience and respect and just want reward with out truly understanding or working for it. This to them is a hobby and most time they have little respect for the animal they pursue. Hunting is one of the best real life activities that you can do to test yourself as a man or woman to still feel raw feelings with out devices that that don’t stimulate you when you require it 24/7.

    Great insights thanks Zeb. I hunt private coastal land for sambar in NZ. I won't use any type of thermal, love daylight sightings of the deer. Have studied their daily/nightly habits with game cameras and many hundreds of hours of watching and waiting. Thanks for the moon phase and storm front knowledge, will be a great help. I think NZ sambar are a slightly different geno to your herd there? They are a very special and spectacular animal to hunt.

      @accuratehunts  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Man, you picked a tough species to be addicted to in NZ haha. I've done my fair share of trips over your way, and Sambar is one species that most of the trophy boys travel here for because it's easier here..... And it's still not easy here lol nearly better off chasing the Moa or Haast's eagle haha

      @@accuratehunts Thanks, I've got it wired now, a comfy hide across from a hill the sambar use day or night often, but timing is so random that hours and hours are required to spend there haha, lucky I'm retired so can spend a lot of time there. Young stags I shoot are for small goods, let the hinds walk (often film them) I've shot one nice representative head. Lots of hunting pressure on them in this area so not many good heads are around except in the dark I get photos of them sometimes. Great Podcasts, keep it up!

      Legal or not thermal use doesn't align with hunting ethics. Total disgrace they've been legalised on public land imo

    • @zanelorimer4030
      @zanelorimer4030 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ZebrasSambarhuntingAdventures I see it as the intended purpose of digital/ thermal is to locate the game. Digital binoculars have the ability to locate at distance similar to glass binoculars or digital camera, identification / locate with thermal signature of game in heavier timber ( that's the part of concern ), laser rangefinder, records the actions directly storage for TH-cam ( don't require camera) . But my concern is the Yobo element that will drive along and mark the valleys with this gear to gain their hero status. That is basically what I am concerned with. My drive up to Mansfield takes three hours on Friday and if I can use the digital binoculars to help a little 👍. Intended purpose from what I have read through club memos from Victoria is to lower deer numbers! Maybe I read it wrong - I don't agree with that idea. 🤔

      @zanelorimer4030 thermal removes the deer's ability to hide in cover, they glow. No sport in spotting game using one. Remove the pronoun "game" and replace it with "feral" or "pest" and its a different story. It's the difference between calling yourself a hunter or simply a shooter. Anyone that uses a thermal for "hunting" has given up the fair chase tge animal deserves and has lowered their value to a pest. It will divide the hunting community which will have consequences later on. Division between hunting groups is not what we needed.

  • @complex4430
    @complex4430 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Touching on the fair chase and thermals question, I think that when we look back on previous technological advancements made in the world of hunting such as scopes and rangefinders, we can see that these tools mostly are used to ensure an ethical shot on an animal. A scope allows you to be far more accurate than you would with iron sights, meaning you can more easily avoid misplaced shots and similarly, a range finder allows you to know how high to hold on an animal. On the contrary, thermal imaging is only used to harvest more animals more quickly and doesn't seek to better the hunter's shot. Ultimately, using technology merely to gain a substantial advantage over your prey does not respect fair chase. Just my thoughts.

    Great interview Zeb! You have a wealth of knowledge and experience with hunting Sambar. Its a pity that the now approved daytime use of handheld thermal devises in state and national parks allows for more illegal shooting/poaching and is clearly an item used by those who cannot hunt properly and need to use this technology to cheat against Australias premier game animal This new regulation should have been put to a vote by all licenced Sambar hunters to get an accurate gauge on what genuine hunters want. Not poaching social media gurus need to fast track what they see as success for a purchaced trophy. Learn to hunt first then sucess will follow! You wouldn't have killed that animal without the technology!

    • @ZebrasSambarhuntingAdventures
      @ZebrasSambarhuntingAdventures 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @deano7462 thanks Dean, it's a crying shame we now have this as a part of what hunting is going to be. Imagine what non hunters are going to think of us when they find out we are running around with thermals to locate animals to hunt. It removes the hunt from it and leaves us looking like pest controllers. We fought to keep Sambar as a game animal but now I see that being lost which will change the face of hunting in Victoria forever

    • @deano7462
      @deano7462 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Cheers Zeb , not angry just disappointed. Fair chase is what makes hunting Sambar so exciting. This new regulation just takes away opportunities for legitimate hunters. Hunting is a sport that generates millions of dollars for a broad range of businesses across Australia. Keep your thermals for pest control/private land shooting and not State forests & National parks where we want to enjoy the sport of hunting as these items will have a detrimental effect breaking down the sport and dividing hunters/shooters in the long term.

    How many mature stags does zeb shoot a year guiding? Thats not enough mature stags for one person? People using social media to make a living and show casing the open country does far more to the mature stag population, every second video he’s telling us how someone else had been hunting in his spot thermals will probably take an extra 2% of the population at most , way more hunters these days mostly due to exposure and people making it look easy of course your 30 year old spots arent going to be as good you show everyone

    Thermals are here to stay same as fish finders or live scopes as soon as they made thermals them legal I went and got one and ill be using it at every opportunity I can because the hunting community at large is dog eat dog so I better take that stag or doe before you do and people that are upset are only upset because the thermal is the great equaliser dont think iam some new hunter ive been hunting for 30 years and the culture has completely fallen off a cliff so why should I worry about the next bloke and he's ability to get a 30" stag
