      @@Rcmkney23If you watch the play I’m sure you’d know this by the end of this song because the Cyclops Saga in general and specifically Athena’s songs don’t fully make sense unless you knew he killed the baby. Because the whole reason he tries to be more peaceful is in major part a reaction to him killing the baby here. He struggles with that decision and countering said decision throughout the rest of the Sagas so far.

    I love how the line “when does a man become a monster?” applies to both the baby and Odysseus. For the baby, it’s a ticking time bomb for how long it will take for the baby to exact his revenge if he’s kept alive. For Odysseus, he’s contemplating if/when he kills the baby, does that make him a monster?
    Also, the baby was dropped from the walls of Troy, and the men chanting are his soldiers.

  • @mordread_rising401

    Fun fact: when Odysseus, Eurylochus, or some other MORTAL character sings, their background vocals HAVE to be coming from a tangible source in the scene. So when the chanting comes in the end of this song, those have to be coming from his soldiers. Gods however, (Zeus, Poseidon, Athena, etc) don’t have to follow this rule.

    This song is ripe for philosophical musings, from "what would I do in this case" to "when DOES a comet become a meteor actually," but another important one is "what constitutes a proper apology?"
    In other words: our currently unnamed main character is saying "forgive me" (demand for absolution, without even a please!) and "I'm just a man" (justification, denial of responsibility), all while he's doing the thing anyway. So should they count as an apology? In the circumstances, what would?
    (Also great reactions guys, I'm enjoying them a lot!)

    • @akaittou
      @akaittou 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Also the question of whether any kind of apology would be a "proper" one, when it's for something the gods have basically ordered you to do with no real choice. Can you truly apologise for something you'd do every time, no matter how many times you could repeat that exact situation? Or would it just be empty words.

      @@shadowcatX2000 I'm not speaking ancient Greek here.
      Just because the word means something different doesn't mean they didn't have a way to 1) admit responsibility and 2) express regret, even if it was called something else. So given that someone DOES say "I'm sorry" later, I'd say modern standards apply.

    Love all your insights! Definitely looking forwards to you two reacting to more of this musical. c:
    I imagine somebody has already suggested watching the animatics made by tons of people. If you plan to watch through them, as I do with many reacters, I will warn you that sometimes the animatics aren't completed. Each song currently has at least one fully released animatic that covers the entire song (Outside of the Thunder Saga), but the most often watched playlists for some reason all have half-finished animatics in them. I would suggest you ask somebody somewhere for a playlist that might work well, so you don't get to watch unfinished music/animation.
    Because you're listening to the rerelease of the Troy Saga, I will also note that while Jorge does want people to listen to the rereleases, he does not discourage folks from watching videos/animatics with the old Troy or Cyclops saga music. As long as you're enjoying what you're hearing, Jorge supports it.

      Circe's instrument is a violin and/or string ensemble, specifically her theme is the introduction of "Done For," the part that sounds like the Flower Duet opera song. I'm also pretty sure Ares' music is primarily on violin as well, though so far it's only been in his part of God Games and may not be significant enough to count as "his instrument," but the other Olympians in that song all have distinct instruments or musical styles which I doubt is an accident, so Ares' violin and snare drum are surely meant to be "his" instruments.

    One of the best things about this Song as our dear boy Ody struggles with the idea of Man becoming Monster by Killing the infant, There is also an amazing Duality because its also discussing when does a Child become a Monster. Because Ody will be a horrific monster if he slays this child, But he himself has been told by the Gods that if this Child lives, He will become consumed with Hate and burn his entire Island down whilst butchering him, his wife and his son.
    So theres this beautiful twisting "Which Sin is Worse" if any at all, Over if the Man who kills a child to stop them from becoming a monster is a monster, Or if the Child that will then one day grow up and then genocide his people, Will be the Monster. Which plays into that lovely tone of inevitability of Greek Tales, where there is only the path to the same end result no chance to escape it.

Not only might it be cool to see what changed in the new version of a song, especially with Panda here, but it would be such a shame for the animatics not to get as many eyes on them anymore because a new version of the audio dropped. And some of the animatics really do add such a great layer to the music.

      @appleblossomstar 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      That's not really how the story goes. Odysseus didn't want to go to war in first place, he was basically forced to go. He was bounded by an oath (which was technically his idea that terribly backfired at him) and when Agamemnon came to call him to war he even pretended to be insane to avoid it. He hooked an ox to plow and started to sow field with salt. It was only because they put baby Telemachus in front him that he stopped the plow and so revealed he's completely sane and so he had to go.
      About Helena there are various versions and in only one of them she went willingly. In others she was either abducted or because Aphrodite made her fall for Paris, so even though she went willingly in this version it was because she was manipulated by goddess

      I'd boo hoo for Odysseus but as you mentioned, it was his idea that if Helen went to anyone but who they decided would take her, they'd all go and destroy that person and their kingdom. He was proven sane, so he in his sanity did what he did, which was go and kill a lot of people to force Helen back to her owner.
      The point of Aphrodite having her love Paris, is that at least Helen wanted Paris. Love had nothing to do with her being the property of the king who was several decades older than her.
      And boo hoo for Odysseus for having the choice of killing a baby and then actually doing it. What counts is what the actions he actually took, not how sad he was for murdering babies and forcing pretty girls into the beds of powerful old kings. The pretty music is great, but people are making a "hero" of a guy who in the first act is killing babies while in a war of his own making.
