Geo. I agree on the cold water rinse after the warm water clean. It closes the follicles of the brush. thanks for the vids. bosco Chicago ('06 Roadking Classic)
thanks it was big help, bcz of u i got an open razor i really enjoy shaving better but bcz im new in use it so i have few cuts or what u call it bumps in my face however i start using my 2 hands when i shave. i have very rough bread and my problem ears in my lower neck maybe if i keep try it will get better. many thanks
thanks a lot for all your insight. i know Ive been a pain with all the questions but Ive learned a lot through your videos. i have been shaving and had no irritation and baby smooth skin. wet shaving is not only better for your skin but i look forward to it and its relaxing. thanks for your videos you made it possible geofatboy!
Most definitely with you on your point about the weeks growth. I have to admit while I like my badger brush the best, my boar is my brush of choice when it comes to using soaps
@AlexTubed well I've gone through 2 brushes becuase the bristles come out from the center. I recently bought an Edward Jagger pure badger brush from Shavenation. Its not as stiff as I like it to be but the first time I lathered it up I was impressed with how much it produced.
OK, the two finger grip of the brush is new to me. Thanks. After realizing that those cartridge razors are really big rip-offs, I switched to a double edge safety razor. I learned a number of shaving tips from your channel.
For those who dont have a holder, you can rig one using a lanyard, paper clip, and a rubber band. just bend the paper clip as apropriate around the key ring part of the lanyard, and attatch a rubber band to the paper clip. the rubber band will be knotted such that it will make for a smaller loop. that smaller loop is what you will fit around the handle of your brush. Now you can hang your brush upside down, eliminating risk of water soaking into the base causing damage.
Just watched this video Thx for the Tip,, ive been shaving cut throat now since sept this year,, i like to hang my Brush buy its handle for 24 hours so it will dry then i fluff it with my bath towl b4 putting it away, idont own a brush holder yet, maybe for christmas...
Was wondering if you could tell me where to find a short hair silvertip badger brush. I want one for more control so its easier to get the lather on just the spots I want it around my beard. Perhaps another video on the different size brushes with different size handles and hair length?
Hello, geo i am from u.k in London. My name is jewel what i would like to know is that do you now any thing about ingrown hair i get lot on my face after shaving sometime any way.try make a video if you have time keep it up with your hard work mate any way. Thank very mush.
thanks for the tip on how to hold the brush. I only shave my neck with the razor so I have run into that issue, but I will remember the three digit grip next time I go clean shaven.
Brilliant! Thanks a lot. I use a good badger hair brush every day but I didn't know any of this. Very informative. By the way Geofatboy you really resemble Mandy Patinkin and that's a compliment.
I've been using Col. Conk soap for some time... Do you have any recommendations for a change? I've always used Conk because it's readily available around these parts. Is there something much better? I don't like heavy fragrance shaving soaps...Just want a nice lathering for a close, comfortable shave. I use a straight razor.
I found this channel due to keep getting spots ingrowing hairs im 36yrs old never been shown the correct way to shave I usually just throw on the shaving gel and attack with the razor ive been using an electric trimmer and leave stubble due to the spot so im going to give this a try will invest in a a brush and cream
@AlexTubed I understand as a consumer I strive to seek the middle ground between cost and quality (and practicality). I got me a good brush for right now I might seek out something that is better down the road.
I have a problem that has happened with two brushes now. I used each brush for around a year and then the glue holding the bristles to the handle released from the handle. I store the brushes hanging upside down, I only put them in hot water before I shave, and then rinse it with cold water after I finish shaving, shake the water out and then hang the brush up. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if I have just managed to purchase two brushes that weren't put together very well. Do you have any tips for this type of problem? Thanks!
Hi Geo I currently am using a Van Der Hagen pure badger brush and was thinking of an upgrade to a Parker silvertip badger chrome handle model. My question is will I notice a difference in softness and making a better lather like I keep hearing about silvertips?
Have any info about when you need to get a new badger brush? I have had mine for 7 years now. Being a beginner, I thought years ago that putting it in boiling hot water would help clean it out and a good thing. LOL! I just use regular tap water with some vinegar ever 4 months and clean it out that way! Love to hear of when you should replace it! Thanks!
I have a question I have a cheap Van Deg Hagen brush I got in a kit at Meijer. Every time I use it bristles come out and on my face. I did not know if the better brushes that happens to or not. I assume the better brushes will lay a long long time if you take care of them. Any help would be great. Thanks kyle
hey, your videos are great. I'm a guy sick of safety razors, 5-blade monsters, and electric shavers. Would like to give straight razors a shot - is there a type you'd suggest that I'd try?
Creamo is good stuff. I'm always on the lookout for new shaving creams that will work on heavy beards and Creamo is one of the better products out of a tube. My 2 cents.
@charliejoe1993 He has one at the beginning of this video. They are decent intro brushes, but are cheap and ultimately compared to high end brushes feel cheep.
@geofatboy Hey thanks for all the informative videos, they really help alot, but one thing I am having an issue is straight razor or safety razor? thanks buddy :-D
Yes. Once I started using a brush and shaving soap I’ve experienced the best shaves I’ve ever had. From the smoothness to just the ritual of lathering and cleaning the brush I love the process. I recommend at least trying it out.
My skin is so sensitive that even my fine badger brush gives me irritation. Should I just not use a brush or what? Lost in what to do so irritated literally. Thanks Geo
Have you seen any manufacturers consistently produce poor quality brushes that warp or fall apart? If you do,I wanted to give you permission to share that information with us.
@geofatboy Thanks for reply to me, The razor i use for shaving my face now is the Gillette Fusion Razor i use to use gillette mach 3 befor , after i finsh shaving i put on my face a Moisturiser it's call LOREAL paris MENexpert COMFORT MAX anti-tightness CERAMIDE 5, Try it out if u like it has a relly nice smell to it.One agina thanks geofatboy.
your not suppose to set your brush down when its wet or it'll rot inside and fall apart you can just make a holder out of a wire hanger and some nylon cables
2 more is horse hair which is hard to find and goat hair which is very rare and expensive here are the goods about boar, badger, synthetic and horse shaving brushs boar hair has more back bone badger hair is very soft synthetic hair won't collect bacteria because the the bristle is not natural horse hair is animal friendly, they don't kill horses for shaving brushes I don't know any pros for a goat hair shaving brushes please reply to me the pros of goat hair shaving brushes
@TheOriginalStevenH To be completely honest, not trying to sound like a snob, you get what you pay for in shaving brushes. Cheaper brushes unfortunately lack the level of craftsman ship of old time companies, and are prone to shedding. While buying a true quality brush such as Simpsons, Shavemac, Plissons, Ronney, etc is a big cost up front they really do last and are superior. If they should shed, which is rare, they also back their product and replace them!
@TheOriginalStevenH Of course money is getting harder and harder to obtain so when we buy things we should all be froogle. I'd say that stick with what you have now while you refine your technique and maybe upgrade to a "lifer" brush once you know the qualities you like in a brush.
@geofatboy Hey geo is it's safety razor and aslo other staff as well, i now those staff. I hpoe those things help me any way thank you for all your help geofatboy. By Jewel

He Geo, do you have a video on aftershave splashes or balms?
For those who dont have a holder, you can rig one using a lanyard, paper clip, and a rubber band. just bend the paper clip as apropriate around the key ring part of the lanyard, and attatch a rubber band to the paper clip. the rubber band will be knotted such that it will make for a smaller loop. that smaller loop is what you will fit around the handle of your brush. Thank you for posting this video. I have been using a safety razor for years but just now got into using a badger brush.
Hey Geo. I got my Merkur 34C and blade sample pack last week. Thank you. Great products. Great service. Got it in 3 days.
Thanks for this video. I've been using a badger brush before I discovered your videos and learned proper care/applying shaving cream today.

badger brushes also retain heat better than boar in my experience
thanks for the tip on how to hold the brush.

Thanks for the tip its was great and helpful. Question: is there a good shaving cream product?

I'm looking for a silvertip brush made in the USA. Got any recommendations? Thanks.
in your opinion which way is it better to leave the brush after its been cleaned, up or down?
always leave your brush hanging downward.
How long does a good brush last? when should you replace it?
Are synthetic brushes worth the money? I've never used one and I was thinking of buying one off Amazon.
I'm use synthetic brush from body shop it's not soft like super badger brush if you looking for soft brush use badger hair
@AlexTubed I understand as a consumer I strive to seek the middle ground between cost and quality (and practicality). I got me a good brush for right now I might seek out something that is better down the road.
Hi, have you any Semogue or Vielong??
Hello I'm new with a safety razor. Can you please give me advice on how to prevent getting red bumps hurts like hell Thanks
hey geo... could you show a video of a proper lather up without using a brush?
I have a problem that has happened with two brushes now. I used each brush for around a year and then the glue holding the bristles to the handle released from the handle. I store the brushes hanging upside down, I only put them in hot water before I shave, and then rinse it with cold water after I finish shaving, shake the water out and then hang the brush up. Yes you will definitely notice difference in softness going from a VDH brush to a silvertip badger brush.
i really like your channel, i can't find those products in Venezuela, does shavenation ship overseas? many thanks .....
shavenation.com/ Ships Worldwide!
6 days a week.
if its "silvertip" or not does it make it better or all badgers are the same im quality?
in*
The bristles come from different parts of the badger-silvertip is the softest and most comfortable: shavenation.com/search?q=silvertip+brush

At first a brush can lose some bristles, but it should stop after the first week depending how often you shave.
You can always squeeze it out, apply it to your cheeks, then brush it around.
hey, your videos are great. I'm a guy sick of safety razors, 5-blade monsters, and electric shavers. Would like to give straight razors a shot - is there a type you'd suggest that I'd try?
Is there any difference in how well a brush will lather in the sense of a cheaply made brush and something higher quality?
Really Great to the point video!
Is it true that boar brush is for soap and badger brush is for cream?
thanks for the pro tips sir. very useful information
Nice video geo, excellent for beginners, like me!
Really liked this video - great tips here that I hadn't seen before!
I have a synthetic brush and I noticed the lather is building inside the brush but not getting on my face
Creamo is good stuff. I'm always on the lookout for new shaving creams that will work on heavy beards and Creamo is one of the better products out of a tube. My 2 cents.
Semogue and Vielong very nice brushes.
@charliejoe1993 He has one at the beginning of this video. They are decent intro brushes, but are cheap and ultimately compared to high end brushes feel cheep.
Great video buddy, really informative. Much appreciated!
@geofatboy Hey thanks for all the informative videos, they really help alot, but one thing I am having an issue is straight razor or safety razor? thanks buddy :-D
Is any particular type less irritating to the skin?
Silvertip badger brushes are very soft and would be less irritating to the skin.
for me, the lowest inch or so on my neck grows upwards. If i don't shave that area upwards, atleast on the first pass, i get the same bumps.
Good video, very informative. Liked.
thanks buddy for an informative good vid!!
Why does my badger brush lose hair??
Any body have a machine of making shaving bursh
I just use my fingers to spread out the shaving gel I have. The gel becomes foam once you rub it on your face. Is it worth it to get a schaving brush?
Yes. Once I started using a brush and shaving soap I’ve experienced the best shaves I’ve ever had. From the smoothness to just the ritual of lathering and cleaning the brush I love the process. I recommend at least trying it out.

I use shaving brushes only with shaving cream, not with shaving foams and soaps.
Thanks for sharing!
Semogue, never made a bad brush!!!
I was told by a friend that your suppose to clean your brush with shampoo before you use it for the first time...is this true?
That's only if you mind if the brush smells like the animal it was made from
It's OK to clean the brush prior to using it.
Any odor should subside after a few uses.
@geofatboy Hey geo is it's safety razor and aslo other staff as well, i now those staff. I hpoe those things help me any way thank you for all your help geofatboy. By Jewel
squeezing the brush will eventually lead for the brush head to come apart.
You can squeeze the brush but very gently!!!
with proper care it will last over 5 years. use a hair moisturizer on the brush every few months.
@TheOriginalStevenH A good brush should last a lifetime.
@geofatboy Thanks Geo, Love your video's very helpful !
Geo why does my shavi
your job is shaver trainer damn?
absolutely not. remove the blade head andgive it a good rinse clean and cloth buff once a month. daily, just rinse.
damn!
You should just throw away that can in the garbage ans buy REAL shaving cream on GEO website
huh
