    I have a Senegal and I know they hold in their poop all night as a way to not let a predator know where they are. I know you really love your parrot. However, I suggest that unless you have a problem snoring, the bird should sleep in your room. They sometimes have night frights and need to have the light come on for a few minutes or they may fly around blind and injure themself during the night. Not a troll, just trying to help you and want you two to have the maximum life together. You are the model family for this bird. Excellent. You understand this bird. Happy to see another parrot treated right.

      Good insights! And I snore really loud, Hahah. Elfie is not a night freight bird from experience. He probably gets better sleep than me he’s got an air purifier and everything. 🦜🤔😎✅

    I let my Sennie wake up at her pace. I partially uncover her cage and she yawns and stretches. I go get her breakfast and uncover her the rest of the way and then she excitedly says " Birdie " and eats and then starts chattering for me to pick her up and come out for the day.

    New Subbie, I love your vids, really educational, informative and fresh. Thank you for taking time out to share, Elfie is a darling........ I’m a first time bird owner, I have a sennie, Oskar, had him for about 3 months. I was born and bred in London and grew up with various other pets all my life. I now live in Lagos, Nigeria 🇳🇬and haven’t been able to meet like minded (and educated ) bird owners. I have been trawling the web specifically for sennie info and I’m glad to have this platform to learn about these amazing birds and lucky to have people like you sharing your bird knowledge!

    How long did it take Alfy to learn fetch? I've been trying to teach Melon to drop a ball in a container, but she doesn't get it yet. I just want to get an idea of how long I should expect it to take her to learn new things.
    Also, do you have to keep training up for the life of the bird, or once they learn something do they remember it?
    Thanks for your help.

    I brought my baby senegal home a week ago today and I've been working with her to learn turn around, target training and waive. My question is how long should I expect it to take before she learns these tricks?

    Thanks.

    I'm doing all the research I can before getting a senegal parrot and this video is great help!
    Hey I was wondering, has he ever tried flying away WHILE wearing the harness? Would he fly alongside you if you started running for some reason?

    • @parrotsco.3224
      @parrotsco.3224  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He hasn't tried to fly away yet, but there is the possibility of being spooked and then flying away. I focused on bonding with Elfie and building a good relationship before harness training so he generally likes to stay with me or on my shoulder, should he try to fly away the harness is tied to my belt loop :)

      In general yes they tend to be on the “quieter” side but that’s relative to other parrots and parrots still make noise so look into pet friendly apartments and will need to work on reducing screaming forsure check out the video I did on that here: th-cam.com/video/ymS8ABqX-Us/w-d-xo.html

    My Senegal is 12 years old and bites me all the time but not my husband so I can’t take him out and handle him; therefore he doesn’t get a lot of out of the cage time. I’ve tried wearing gloves but he’s afraid of them. Any tips on how to win his trust of my handling him?

  • @wow1602
    @wow1602 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey another awesome video. I’m not to sure what to make of this but I have a Senegal about a year old and it seems he has slot of fluff and I also noticed he lost 2 long feathers and he tends to preen himself very intensely he doesn’t do that all the time, but I also noticed that he is losing like regular feathers as well. I also did notice that he has a spot on him near the lower part of his neck but I hope I’m not seeing things.
    He also randomly goes crazy with moving his head side to side and then flies around and screeches from time to time.
    Not sure if you have any input into this type of behaviour. He’s got toys, a big cage, my company ( but seems more interested in a mirror, and other things lol )
    I did manage to get a head scratch on him and seems he’s growing a lot of feathers.
    Any thoughts I would appreciate it!

    • @parrotsco.3224
      @parrotsco.3224  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the characteristics in a parrot you’re looking for. Personally I went with a Senegal Parrot because they tend to be on the quieter side (relative to parrots) I work from home and am on the phone a lot so it was ideally + size doesn’t require a lot of space etc, I would research what characteristics you want in your next parrot 🦜 and take your time. Also ask yourself if you’re to commit more time and energy into +1 bird to make sure the whole flock is happy :)

      Senegal parrots are very jealous little parrots and they can inflict a super nasty bite. They are out for blood. Unless you have alot of time and patience a cockatiel would be a far better choice. Senegal's are also prone to sinus infections and upper respiratory problems, money at the vets.

    Never get a noisy bird around your cynical parrot. They’re very quiet. I had one. I don’t want for 30 years. You still doing good, but I got a Conye and a lover, and after scream months of being in the room with them it’s not a parent turned into Al Las, you ever heard every day. So loud. I had them from 3028 years and he never made a noise. Yeah you play with them anymore. I talk back-and-forth via gone and he would talk back, but he never made a lot of noise now. He screams just like the pet that can you do do
