  • John Dudley of Nock On really puts on a good course at Total Archery Challenge, this year at the Park City, Utah event was no different! Dudley's Nock On course was challenging but also a ton of fun!! We highly encourage you to attend as many 3D archery shoots as you can, not only are they a ton of fun, but they help us grow as archers and bowhunters too!!

    Seriously man, you two shoot so incredibly well at these crazy ridiculous yardages. Both of you have such great form and technique. As a side note I am always referring shooters to your learning videos. I see so many people on TH-cam that have no clue as to using their releases. Wonder if you could make more videos of you and Micah on a " regular?" type 3-d set up explaining all that you do for a given shot???? There's so many that would benefit tremendously I'm sure. 👍👍🙌🏻

      Thank you so much for the kind words and for referring others to our Learn Archery videos! We definitely aren’t pros by any means but happy to help where we can. Perhaps we can make a video including details on things that we do for certain shots that could help people. Thank you for the idea!

    I have a Love/Hate for the TAC. If archer will learn their effective range from this shoot then it’s a Love, if an archer thinks they can try and harvest an animal at distances they can’t hit the ten ring 100% at TAC then it’s a Hate.

    What are the pros and cons to shooting a back tension or hinge release compared to a wrist strap release

    • @BowOnlyOutdoors
      @BowOnlyOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a hard question to answer without adding more context. A tension release and a hinge release can take longer to learn how to shoot properly, where as commanding a wrist strap can be learned fairly quickly, but will limit you on your overall accuracy in the long run for most people.
      What this really boils down to isn’t which release, it’s how you execute it. Learning to shoot with a surprise release execution can improve your archery game drastically and I would recommend learning it for every serious archer and bowhunter out there. A tension or a hinge release can make learning how to shoot with a surprise release easier, but a downside to it is you have to commit to it. If you practice with a hinge or a resistance release, I would highly encourage you to hunt with it as well, as long as you have put in the work to build confidence with it.

    What is your opinion on the Mathews zebra strings?

    • @BowOnlyOutdoors
      @BowOnlyOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They work fine, but I prefer string and cables with served end loops personally. Not necessary to replace stock zebra strings if they came on the bow, but I usually put on after market strings and save the stock strings as back ups.

    • @AngelZLopez
      @AngelZLopez 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BowOnlyOutdoors how does the serving on the end loops help? I asked pro shop owner and he said Mathews purposely makes them that way so they can slip.

    • @BowOnlyOutdoors
      @BowOnlyOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AngelZLopez I’ve seen them wear on the ends since the string fibers aren’t protected. Not typically an issue, but it’s a weak point not being protected. It also makes twists in the string and cables less consistent since you can be turning just part of the loop and not the full string. Zebra does make them that way on purpose so you can twist individual string strands in the loop for peep twist and very small adjustments in the cables. I’m just personally not as much of a fan of them for the reasons I listed above. There’s nothing wrong with them and they work just fine, but I prefer others.

    Do you hunt with the element how do you find it

    • @BowOnlyOutdoors
      @BowOnlyOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I do. It slows me down just enough to keep from rushing the shot, but never costs me a missed shot opportunity.

    • @tomaslong
      @tomaslong 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers I have an element and a sx3 just seeing if I should give the element a chance hunting. You must have it set relatively light.

    • @BowOnlyOutdoors
      @BowOnlyOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomaslong I prefer it heavier, especially for hunting. it’s set at about 23 lbs. My holding weight on the bow is around 14. If I hunted with a thumb I would punch it every time because of how pumped up I get. The tension release keeps me in my shot and I can get it to fire within a second without forcing it. It all comes down to confidence with it. If you don’t have it, it won’t work.
