    I was an animator and SFX artist. When I was 38 I started a career shift to software. Now I'm 43 years and I am software engineer with a few years experience under my belt. I don't regret it at all.

      what made you quit animation and SFX art in general. And do you find software engineer more fun even without the pay differences?

    • @alithejumbo
      @alithejumbo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Claw94 My reasons: 1- future security, 2- scope of achievement and 3- progress with age. Software opens doors for many directions by which a person can grow. With SFX you're prisoned in an industry full of volunteers or hobbyists who are willing to compete with you for free just for fun. Unfortuantley creativity doesn't grow by experience. Experience in art is underrated. This makes art a game of youth. When you are around 40 game is over. When it comes to achievements, with software it's super easy to go for a startup (which I'm currently doing). This was nearly impossible for me with SFX where a few production companies dominate the industry and its income. In digital production big cats are so big that it's stupid to establish a startup among them. They will swallow you! When it comes to money, it's no brainer software is the winner. No big cat can beat you if you know code. This is why the crypto industry (for example) attracts free souls. As for fun, it's is relative. You may find in either more fun than the other. For me, I still find SFX more fun and I do it in my free time, but financial security and participating in the tech revolution weigh out the fun for me. So in a nutshell, unless you're one-of-your-kind in digital art, move to software and don't waste your time.

    Wow, I knew your career sounded similar to mine, but not to this detail. I too dropped out twice, gave my Physics exam 14 attempts and focused on CS and nothing else. In 2006, I used to get onto the water tank to get GPRS signal so I can search answers for questions I've been writing down in a book for a whole week. Only difference is I wasn't rebellious, just wasn't interested in anything else. I got my first job as Associate SDE in 2018 and today I'm a SDE-2. Having said that, to think you earned with software projects in 2001, is amazing!! Being in India which is very similar to Nepal, I can certainly imagine your situation.

    Government should not make it mandatory to learn coding in lower grades. People should know that there are not enough jobs all over the world as the number of CS graduates is increasing year after year but 90% of them don't have any job. Most of them are not recruitable
    as their knowledge base is not in sync with the requirements of the hiring organizations and at the same time most of them feel exhausted even before getting their degrees. As a result they are absolutely reluctant to work in the line of Engineering in which they got their bachelor's degree.

Being alone and trying to grow, doing different projects with very little locking horns, debates and collaboration. As a background I too work for one of the Big Tech, been there for 4 years now, first years was amazing, biggest highlights of my career but then as you said, everything changed with covid. As I am contemplating leaving now, I am glad I am not alone. Thanks again for making this video!

I find myself trying to encourage him to learn "how" these games "the software" works. He's got six years before he turns 18....and I would really like for him to learn the fundamentals (such subjects as coding, programming, A+, network +, security +, python, and Linux+) BEFORE entering college. I think he can create a great life if he is willing to learn the right skills that will be useful in the marketplace years to come.

    Congrats on the 20 years, Utsav. My current job has nonexistent engineering mentorship. So, I keep coming to your channel to fill that void. You always invigorate that passion of engineering in me and I always leave feeling recharged. Thank you. Love how far you've come with your channel. Take care

    One thing I've noticed among engineers is that the senior you are, more humble you become

    Thanks for the info, I purchased Computer Science Distilled (Beginner friendly) to understand algorithms and programming. Can you suggest good books for C++?

    Hi Utsav Dai,
    I am a recent grad student in Computer Science but I don’t have any tools and framework knowledge. So I could not land job and I found the one institution, they told me they will train me for 5 weeks but I have to sign a contract for 18 months with $50000 anually . Do you have any suggestion? Should I sign a contract or should I learn tools and framework and find a job myself. Your suggestion will be greatly appreciated.👏🏼
