1) Indexing - Go through all the resources and just develop a basic understanding
2) Retaining - Go deeper and try to retain as much as possible, use spaced revision to revise and get a good hold
3) Referencing - Refer to the curated sources, since you would have already gone through it a lot of times you would pick up really fast
I want to enter Microsoft and hug this great man and have him as my mentor
I thought he quit a while back
Then change your mind as he is now on break from company and currently working on a startup idea.
Yeah, he took a year break from Microsoft.
You can already have him as your mentor... look at the video desc
Me too..
As a software engineer I do learn things just to make things done, and after a month or two, I just forget about how I did implememented those things. Thanks a lot for sharing your technique to learn and retain.
Earlier people used to comment "I liked the video before watching" and I used to consider those people idiots but I do the same when I see your uploads. You can just trust some people.
Means a lot, thank you!
Cannot agree more! This channel gonna pop 100k in this year!

I have so much respect for you Utsav. Thanks for these priceless gems.
🙏🏽
This is really great, i might as well adapt this method. very logical.
Great advice in Software terms. I like this guy. awesome.
Thank you Sir, I learnt something really interesting in this video.. 😎🙏
Thank you sir , very useful and really helpful indeed , keep making more videos Sir ।
I think the idea of "indexing" the information first NEEDS to be utilized more in school/universities!
It wasn't until after I graduated that I realized an initial overview of the material can really help you make sense of what you're learning and piece it together in the context of the big picture.
I'll be honest, the entire university education system needs a major overhaul. I love that they teach the foundational knowledge well, but something that costs your years of loan payments, should teach productivity, strategies, and even personal finance like credit scores, home mortgage, etc. No one prepares you for any of that.
Great talk, Utsav. Just discovered your channel while looking for the best way to set up my new M1 14" MBP. I like your idea of indexing. I have recently adopted the same approach. Get the full story first. Digest it, Retain it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge from Canberra.
Thank you sir. Much appreciated it.
Thank you sir i really needed this video.
Thank you so much it was beneficial
Dude u got swag and flow... big up (:
Thank you for your valuable advice sir :)
very informative .... thank you for sharing ...
Your talking style is amazing, calm, silent and with relaxed tone, defintely would learn it with experience...
Thank you! 😃
He is a great mentor
You are the person i want to look up to. May be not in system design for me but in other field in CS.
Thank you !
You're awesome! and you're content is priceless and amazing, I also use Theory of LAR - Logic, Argumentation & Reasoning factoring in humane values of ethos, pathos and logos in addition to the concept of Indexing, retaining and referencing (Cognitive Stages) w/ 80-20 principle. This is indeed an effective methodology in my opinion - I've been doing this since my childhood unknowingly! Kudos man. Thanks for your valuable insights and well put together content. Great work!! Keep up the good work!
4:40 is a good tip. Watch the entire tutorial first and THEN execute your code
Great video 👍
the transition to promoting SkillShare was smooth
🤙🏼
Great Video Bro
nice tips and love the music..
That's a super important topic for me lately. I was trying to standardize the process of learning by myself, so this video is extremely helpful. Just like you mentioned, in tech world, there's too much languages, libraries, frameworks and all the buzzwords that come along with them, so if you don't have any standards set upfront, then it's easy to drown in all that or let it significantly slow you down. I am glad that you touched on the topic of getting better at other things, not just software engineering. I often times catch myself up on the thinking, that if I want to be better at engineering, I need to spend more and more time on it. And I truly love it, but then it blows out of proportions and I get burn out.
Maybe you could do some other video about relevancy of side activities and work-life balance (especially when your work is your hobby at the same time ;p)?
Best regards!
Absolutely ... I will add it to the backlog. Thanks for watching, and the video suggestion :)
Your channel is my TV. Am curious about how you are able to break things down. Thanks for the insight you share.
This is brilliant content. Hope your channel blows up soon
🙏🏽
I'm in my late 20s now when I discovered this technique once I had to do POC on a different tech stack. It worked out well. Never refrained from using it every since.
This channel is awesome 👍
today i found your channel as suggestion and this is second video of yours i am watching.
and literally you are amazing 👌😊😊..
Thanks man! Appreciate it! :)

Utsav, you are teaching us things that no university/school in the world can teach us. Being a software engineer myself, I can grasp most of the things you shared.
