Iwi mourn and miss Tauranga Moana leader

The Māori world is reeling at the death of Tauranga Moana leader Awanui Black. The passionate, popular and charismatic leader was just 48 years old. This morning, his body was taken to Te Whetu o Te Rangi Marae, sparking appropriate expressions of emotion, energy and custom. Reporter Roihana Nuri was also there and filed this report.

saddened by the passing of "Awanui" my involvement with him showed him to be genuine, humble, knowledgeable and a really nice person who was willing to share his expertise. Sincere condolences to his whanau, a great loss.
