Elbphilharmonie | Sasha Waltz & Guests »Figure Humaine« Trailer

A few days before the official opening of the Elbphilharmonie, Sasha Waltz and her celebrated dance company invite us to a choreographic and musical exploration of the foyers of the new concert hall.
The musical centrepiece is the choral work "Figure humaine" (Human Face) by Francis Poulenc from 1943. The polyphonic cantata, based on a poem by Paul Éluard, penetrates human tragedies of hatred and violence and culminates in an ode to freedom. The musical programme is complemented by works by Hildegard von Bingen, Béla Bartók, György Ligeti, Cathy Milliken, Dmitri Shostakovich, Pēteris Vasks, Eugène Ysaÿe and many other composers.
From Berlin, Sasha Waltz brings a large group of dancers from her company and the Vocalconsort Berlin. With her inauguration of the Elbphilharmonie foyers, she continues her "Dialogues" series - projects at the interface between dance, music and architecture, which in recent years have taken her to the Neues Museum Berlin and the MAXXI in Rome, among other places, but also to a dilapidated palace in Calcutta or the Palazzo Querini Stampalia in Venice.
