    Ok, i know that my videos are long. But they aren't long because I like to hear myself talk...lol... Quite the opposite actually. They are long because I talk about everything and every issue I may have had with the install or actual setup and running. Please watch the whole video because there are some important things about this rom that I bring up. This is a new version of Android and there will be some bumps in the road. 😎

      Do I have to be rooted and have my bootloader unlocked before doing what is mentioned in the video ? Is there anything else that I need to do before flashing the rom? Plz help me because this is my first time flashing a rom.. .

    • @HayesTech
      @HayesTech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, unfortunately you do have top have your bootloader unlocked and have the latest TWRP custom recovery installed. But fortunately, if you have a Nexus 6, it is one of the easiest devices to unlock thew bootloader on. lthere are many videos out on how to do this so that is why I haven't made one. They are very thorough and easy to follow. But, if you have any questions please feel free to comment on my google plus community, or get hold of me through Hang outs or some other social outlet like Telegram and I will help you get through this. For hang outs and Google plus I go by David Hayes or glockman4519. You can also try my email ay davidehayessr@gmail..com

      @@shehryarsajid8953
      No it does not. As long as you have your bootloader unlocked and then have the latest TWRP recovery installed, you just boot to recovery, make backup (off device) make sure you are not encrypted (this is a must) then wipe system, both caches and data. Then flash the rom, then the gapps (arm 9 pico or.nano) and then Magisk v17.1 (if you want root). Then boot to system and let device sit to settle in for at least 5 minutes after the initial boot. Then you can set it up. Watch the whole video though as I explained some things about the install and setup that are important.

    Been using this rom for around 2 Weeks David
    It's amazing how we keep our great phones working and update without Googles help
    I did put new Battery in back in March I recommend this anyone to keep the phone going
    I'll keep this phone for a long time since don't anything has good at a fair price

      @Hybrid Theory
      Well, getting 4 to 5 hours SOT at this stage, with the battery that came with the device, is pretty darn good. Yes i used to get 6 to 7 hours SOT till last year. So it about time to replace the battery. But it's fine for me right now so I'll keep it on the list of "too do" thinks I have to get to.

    installed this last night.. thanks for the help here! So far so good.. fresh breath of new life in my Nexus 6, gestures I already feel good about using just after a few hours of use.. it really feels smooth and snappy too, not too far off from my Galaxy s8 plus when running a few programs, havent given it a full day stress test/daily driver run through yet. Everything has been working great other than the gallery app.. after I take a photo and try to view it the gallery app shows it and soft crashes. Also battery life seems pretty darn good for a 4 year old phone. from a full charge 45 minutes of screen time brought it down to 72 percent so likely 3+ hours of SOT is not too bad.

    Very nicely done video.
    I used to own a Nexus 6 but sold it last year. Wish I still had it though. What a great phone. I really miss those two front facing speakers. Yeah I know it doesn't have a fingerprint sensor, and it's a 32-bit phone and not 64-bit. And I know it isn't bezel-less and doesn't have the more modern 18:9 display ratio. However, many of the specs it does have can still compete with some of today's phones.
    The only thing I wish Motorola had done was give the Nexus 6 a better front facing camera. I mean 2 mp is just not going to get it done for selfies and all.
    Nevertheless when I did have my Nexus 6 I ran Nitrogen OS on it and it was buttery smooth then, so I am sure it's even better now, especially on Android 9.0.
    Makes me want to go and buy another Nexus 6, and I just might do that.
    Thanks for a very good video.

    • @HayesTech
      @HayesTech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are very welcome and thank you for the kind words. Some of the features you mentioned that the 6 does not have, like the fingerprint reader and display that the Samsung's and other new devices have, I wouldn't want anyways. (Just my preference). I understand where others, like your self, would want them though. I don't use the fingerprint reader on my Pixel 2XL, Nexus 6p, my Moto e4 and the e4 plus or the LG V10. I (my other devices do not have fingerprint reader either). I just don't care for locking my device. But, I also don't use it for making purchased either, or at least store anything on it that i wouldn't mind anyone seeing...lol... No porn...lol.. I don't use Google Pay or any of those other high security apps. As for the new style screen modes or aspect ratios, I don't care for the long thin screen. I do wish it had borderless display though. Thank you so much for watching and for posting.

      @@HayesTech Your welcome.
      Yeah, I also am not into the modern stuff that the new flagships have. I only mentioned those things because they're the trend right now.
      However, I don't really care for the fingerprint sensor or the 18:9 ratio.
      I prefer big and wide screens like on the Nexus 6. And all this iris scan and facial recognition, I don't want or need. Nor do I need a phone with 8gb of ram and 512gb of storage and four or five cameras. I mean come on phone manufacturers. They must think people are using their phones to travel to Mars to need all that firepower. LOL
      I also refuse to pay $1000 or more for a device that is only warranteed for 2 years and most new devices start to shows signs of performance decline before then.
      At the time I sold my Nexus 6 it was three years old and running strong and the battery in it was the original one and was still holding a strong charge. They don't make them like that anymore. I regret that I sold my Shamu.
      BTW, I did consider the Pixel 2 xl but I heard and read that the speakers on that phone are subpar for a flagship device.
      I listen to a lot of music without ear buds or headphones (I'm a smooth jazz fanatic) so good speaker quality is a must for me.
      Oh, and I had the Droid X (running Froyo and Gingerbread) the original Moto G, the Moto G4 play, the Moto E4 and E4plus, a couple of LG phones, and currently using the Moto E5 play as my daily driver.
      Out of all those phones I still prefer the Nexus 6.
      Probably gonna wind up buying another one.

      @@ereztree Motorola makes some of the most awesome devices. I'm my humble opinion... You're is certainly top notch. The way I see it is, I'm going to use my Nexus 6 as long as I can. As long as they have parts for it, if needed, I'll just keep fixing what needs fixing...lol.. I too am still on my original battery and haven't had to do anything to mine so far and I have flashed note roms on it than most. I absolutely love this phone. There speakers in the Pixel 2XL are nice for conversations and videos but as you stated, are not the greatest for music consumption. But, since I don't listen to music on it, they are ok for now. But honestly, I use my 6 as my DD and the Pixel 2XL for video recording and taking pictures only.

    Thank you very much for this video. My Nexus 6 has been struggling for a few months, not accepting Lineage OS 15 updates. This ROM has successfully installed (after a bit of a struggle with encryption errors, even though the phone wasn't encrypted! formatting solved this), and given it a new lease of life. Looks good so far.
    A couple of teething troubles: It wouldn't receive SMS, until I went into the phone settings and added the message centre number. Had to google it for my phone network.
    Also, it wouldn't find the phone network until I entered airplane mode, and turned airplane mode off again. Could just be my device, but mentioning in case they help someone out there.

      Actually, Anything higher than nougat, just doesn't have the custom features I like. My favorite of all mods is the 3Minit battery and it was killed in code after nougat. Others like headers and so on are all a no go with Oreo and Pie. That's the only reason I stick on nougat. I don't need to be on the latest android to be happy. It's all about features that I like and not the so called "latest and greatest". While I admire and invite progress, the so called "progress" needs to at least appeal to me. Oreo and Pie does not. I do feel that there are enough working features in these Pie builds to make them daily drivers though.

    • @HayesTech
      @HayesTech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The camera app in some Pie roms, for some devices (not all, as mine is working great) force closes. But they have a fix for it in a zip.
      As for your choice of phone, they make good Devices. But if your looking for a device to flash custom roms on, make sure there is a development community for it first. If that isn't your goal than it's all in what you like. I don't care what people think of the devices that I use and like. The device you mentioned should be just fine.
      I am not sure how long the developers will be supporting the Nexus 6. I hope for a long time yet but I fear it's reaching it's end. Most of this is because of Google and not developers. Google is making it harder and harder for developers to customize Google's OS.

    How does the Nexus 6 behave with a low battery level?

    • @HayesTech
      @HayesTech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't notice much of a difference. I don't have battery saver on though. I also never let my battery get lower than about 15%, ever. That's just me though. You should never charge to 100% or discharge below 10% on a lithium battery. I was told that 80% should be your max and 10% the minimum. Either way, when I'm not using my device, I plug it in if it's under 50% so my battery is always charged to enough to keep the device running at it's optimal. But most of all, I don't run Pie on my 6. I am running Nougat. I hate "O"and "Pie". No custom features... 😎

    • @HayesTech

      I can't tell you that. You have to understand that no 2 devices are exactly the same. What works on mine may not be the same for you. That's why we flash and test. I can give you an example of one. The only reason I'm running Nougat is because I don't like a rom that doesn't have a lot of custom features. To be honest, If marshmallow ram as good as Nougat on my device I would be running that. It has the most custom features of all the roms IMHO. So, it's about custom features for me. If you don't mind missing those features and want to run the latest, then there is no reason why you wouldn't run one of these Oreo or Pie builds. It's all about personal preference.

    • @HayesTech

      I really can't answer that for you. I am running Candy 6 6.0.1 right now on my Nexus 6. I just felt like running a rom that s supported CMTE for a while. Next week I may be back on a 7.1.2 rom. They are all great roms but you have to set your priorities and pick the build that has what you are looking for. The higher up you go, the less custom features your going to get. Again, it's a personal preference thing. What I think is the best for me may not be the best for you. You just have to try them and see, or watch my videos and see which rom has the right features for you. I have over 350 videos out there.

      I can say that I has no issues with the microphone. There was an issue with a couple music apps on the first release but even that is fixes now. I would do another "clean flash". Then I would test the mic volume before installing any of your normal apps. Then install one app at a time and test the mic after each app install. I say this because it most likely is an app causing your issue.

      I don't know that there is a tweak or settings that will help Battery life. If you are having Battery issues my guess is that you are on your original Battery and it is time to replace it. I am lucky that mine still works well, but no where close to like it was new. These are aging devices and some elements of the device are going to wear. And since the lithium ion Battery has a pre-determined amount of charge times built in it, you are most likely ready for a new one.
