Pearl was right in this episode. She didn't strand the others, they broke the warp pad themselves. She wasn't mad that Steven was working out, she was worried that he admired Suglite's power for the wrong reasons. Something you should know about the show is that the songs often carry the theme of episodes or explore character.
There a some fun theories for Rose's Room. It gives you what you want, but it bases it off of your memories/imagination. So the person that Steven knew and understood the most, his dad, was the most lifelike. He didn't fully know him, which is why his dad "glitches" in the end.
^He doesn’t know what advice his dad would give about the situation, so the room fills it in with whatever advice it could find that his dad gave him in the past
With such powerful voices as Patti LuPone, Christine Ebersole, etc, who stayed on the series for a long time. And Nicki Minaj charged such a high price to voice the character that Sugalite never spoke again.
Despite the name, Cream Corn contains no milk or cream. It's just pureed corn from scrapping bits off the cob + whole corn kernels to utilize as much of the cob as possible. It's just a corn soup basically, no more gross than a squash soup, a bean soup, a lentil soup etc...
There are recipes that do call for cooking corn in actual milk, but creamed corn was originally a Native American dish and was made by cooking corn in corn milk (the starchy liquid produced by scraping the cob after cutting off the kernels). So the canned stuff is more authentic, in that sense.
I love Amethyst being just immediately down to start biting people; pure Gremlin energy. Coach Steven is a gem (pun intended) of these early episodes. Its synopsis was available online months before it actually aired, so there was a lot of hype built around the new fusion. There's some fanart from back in the day speculating what Sugilite would look like, and they all looked way closer to Opal since that was our only frame of reference for fusions. I like what we ended up getting better, especially for how it alludes to what fusion can be. You're right to anticipate more; one of the coolest facets of the show.
The thing to keep in mind with Fusions is that they embody the traits of each person IN the Fusion. Amethyst is impulsive, and while Garnet is strong and smart, she's not always right (like in the birthday episode when she started violently shaking Steven to try and fix him). As such, Sugilite is big, tough... and VERY aggressive, to a detrimental degree sometimes. Opal as well had all of Pearl's precision and Amethyst's casualness, but was also a bit spacy and completely forgot to grab the thing they went there to get in the first place. The point being, Fusions are awesome, but they're not always perfect, they combine the best AND worst elements of people together. Again, Sugilite was cool, but way too aggro with all the muscle to do whatever she wants.
This is a good point. I'd go so far to say that Garnet is not just not always right, but she also sits somewhere between thinking she's right most of the time, and feeling like she needs to be seen as right, since she leads the team. And then Amethyst is almost obsessively rebellious. So of course Sugilite would have a big head about herself and project toxic overconfidence, in part just to spite anyone who would disagree with her. I imagine a late-series Sugilite would be way tamer, though, after all that Ame and Garnet go through in those respective areas.
I have maintained Garnet because of [REDACTED] doesn't have a personality that merges with others. So fusing with Garnet doesn't produce a new merged personality, but the personality of the first Gem, AMPED UP TO ELEVEN! Sugalite isn't a true fusion of two personalities... She's Amethyst UNHINGED
Pearl was jealous, yes, but its not like she wasnt right either. Sugilite WAS too destructive. Garnet and Amethyst fusing together WAS excessive. It WOULD have been better if Pearl and Garnet had just fused instead. The problem wouldve been solved just as easily, and the teleportation pad wouldnt have been destroyed. Garnet was right, too. They did deserve it. They rashly came at a decision that put Steven as well as a bunch of townspeople, in danger.
i was gonna defend cream corn by saying its probably not american in origin, it just came here from somewhere else, but nope! its from native american culture! so that's a fully american creation. cream corn is actually pretty good though (though ill admit it tastes a lot better than it looks half the time)
[Mod] Hey everyone! Remember to keep the comments free of any spoilers of future episodes for Mosco. Have fun & be creative with fake spoilers! Also, make sure we’re keeping the comments cool & comfortable for everyone here. Enjoy the reaction y’all!!!
It doesn't really matter, but just wanted to let you know that was the real Onion in Rose's Room. You can see him sneaking around the shack in a previous episode and he doesn't show back up until a few episodes later.
Fusion is a metaphor for relationships. The fusion gems created by two or more gems represent their bond. The stronger the bond of the gems, the more stable the fusion is. You can see that the slightest distraction undid Opal. The durability of a fusion can have some level of impact on the gems, depending on the nature of it. With Sugilite, the long fusion was not the problem, but the fact that she was being too much destructive and she wasn't seeing that because of Amethyst and Garnet's combined personality.
I think that the game that Steven is playing in the episode is more similar to the saga Mother/Earthbound because of the three children and ordinary things alive as monsters.
Sugilite combines Amethyst's recklessness and impulsiveness with Garnet's brashness and intensity to create a fusion gem that is just, like Pearl said, "too much". Sugilite can't help but get overboard and carried away. The only possible person that she has any consideration for is Steven due to both Amethyst and Garnet loving him very much.
I adore the Coach Steven episode so much, one of our first instances of Steven's true strongest power is talking, and so much of Pearl's personality comes through in Strong In the Real Way. Phenomenal episode, and that's not even saying anything about Sugilite!
If you pay attention this is where they start planting the evidence that Amethyst is a serial killer who had her memory erased. She's just with the Crystal Gems so they can keep an eye on her. Its all there if you look for it. Promise!
The room can pull things from Steven’s thoughts. Replicating beach City, as Pearl said, was too much. This included making realistic copies of everyone he knew. However Greg is one of the people Steven knew the most, so the room had an easier time. If Steven had just asked for Greg and the room wasn’t being overworked, the nonsense dialogue probably wouldn’t have started popping up. The room is… Semi-sentient. Very obedient. We didn’t see the complete Opal dance, however a fusion dance changes with every combination. Different people, different personalities, Different types of synchronisations. Obviously garnet and amethyst version is… intriguing, but it can also be very lifeless ( seemingly from the outside perspective) of very emotional, fun, sensual, the whole shebang! Dancing isn’t even technically required but it’s the easiest way to do it. To get 2 gems who are fused to unfuse, you just poof them. Unlike when Pearl proofed, when a fusion poofs they only separate the 2 gems without reverting into their sleep mode. Normally anyway.
Yeah, the room is very obedient... to a fault even. It follows the literal meaning of Steven's commands, not necessarily what he wants... even if Steven's desires are not directed to the room, as long they are expressed in it, it will always assume he is giving it an order.
The Lesbian blue screen at 13:18 or so was beautiful. And I promise you this: that was not even close to Max Lesbian Levels this show reaches. Those were mere foothills to the great lesbian panics to come.
It is fascinating to see how the different Gems' personalities combine to create the personality of the fusion. Some Gems are more compatible than others, and some balance each other out better than others. Also, the fusion has aspects of each Gem's personality, but some characteristics can combine to create new aspects. Amethyst's and Pearl's personalities are very opposite of each other, but they also tend to balance out each other's strengths and weaknesses really well. Opal has a difficult time forming and maintaining herself because they are so different, but those differences also cause her to have a very stable, well-balanced personality. She has Pearl's grace and Amethyst's easy-going nature as individual qualities, but Amethyst's in-the-moment mentality and Pearl's single-mindedness combine to make Opal be forgetful (she forgot about getting the Heaven Beetle until Garnet reminded her, despite that that was the original mission objective). Garnet is powerful and confident, and Amethyst is impulsive and reckless. These qualities combine to make Sugilite "out of control and over-zealous" as Pearl says. Garnet and Amethyst can both be stubborn and determined, which amplifies to make Sugilite extremely difficult to reason with. There's more I'd like to say on the topic, but it will have to wait until Mosco meets [SPOILERS].
The thing about fusions is that the personalities of the participants, as well as the nature & strength of the bond between said participants, impact the nature of the fusion. Opal is hard to form and easy to disrupt because Amethyst & Pearl often get on each other's nerves. We only got to see Opal because both Amethyst & Pearl were worried for Steven's safety. Sugilite is the result of Garnet's directness compounding with Amethyst's recklessness & attitude. Because Garnet has more patience with Amethyst's shenanigans and Amethyst respects Garnet much more so than Pearl, it's easier for all the impulses (Garnet's directness & Amethyst's recklessness) to mix and allow both Garnet and Amethyst to get pulled into the want for destruction & chaos. So far, we've seen a Fusion get disrupted in two ways. Opal fell apart when She thought they left behind the Heaven beetle, and Amathyst's knowledge that it wasn't her fault clashed with Pearl's default reaction to think it's Amathyst's fault. Sugilite had to be disrupted with enough force so as to disrupt her physical form, similar to what happened to Pearl a little bit back. But since Garnet and Amethyst weren't forced back into their gems, we can tell it took quite a lot of force to shake the mindset the fusion participants let each other fall into. To end a fusion, the partners either need to fall out of mental sync or be disrupted by outside physical factors. Granted, we still have more fun to have with the topic of fusions going forward in this show. We still have the fusion of Garnet & Pearl (not really a spoiler. Pearl advised that fusion for the mission.) to see. And more importantly, we don't even know for sure if it is possible for Steven, the half-human, to fuse. It's going to be interesting to see more reactions in the future.
I'd forgotten how much I love _Strong in the Real Way._ 🎶 Most episodes are bangers, but taking a glance at upcoming episodes in the list... I'm really looking forward to seeing the reaction to _"Steven and the Stevens"_ in particular. Although it's possible I'm super-excited about all of _the next three_ reaction videos.
American here. I've never been able to deal with creamed corn either... But some folks really love it, and it's good for you and very inexpensive, so there are real benefits to it. The visuals and the texture are just turn-offs for me personally. Everyone's got their own tastes I suppose.
I don't know what cream corn is but in indonesia we have a snack called jasuke (which in indonesian, stands for corn, (condensed) milk, and cheese) and its really good 👐
I'm 66 and now an Empty-Nester but I'll always owe this show for helping me understand a lot about my two daughters and eventually living alone. Still stan Rebecca Sugar though. "Cartoon", indeed. 😄😉
I've not had creamed corn myself. When I look it up it's apparently popular in the part of America I live in, but I've not really seen many people eat it. Fun fact I just learned: it is actually a Native American dish. Not sure which tribe though. But that's kind of cool to know.
For whatever reason, Pearl has some of my favorite songs in the series. I'm more of a melody type of person. I'll go years not knowing, or caring what a particlar lyric of a song actually is. I'm very much the type of person when a song is playing, I'll be like "Mhmhmn anotm dahhdm fungmhm skirnms mhmmm GO AHEAD AND TRY TO HIT ME IF YOU'RE ABLE!!!" If you know, you know. But Pearl's lyrics just stick with me so easy.
FUSION INFORMATION! So some notes on fusions and personalities... Obviously when two gems fuse, their personalities merge to make something new. Pearl is orderly, and Amethyst is chaotic. Order and Chaos merged creates the Zen Like personality of Opal, a perfect Fusion. Now GARNET as you notice has a very... stoic personality, almost like she doesn't have one. But she is VERY POWERFUL SO a fusion of someone plus Garnet isn't a merger of personalities... but... The first gems personality TURNED UP TO ELEVEN!
Don't worry We Lass I don't like Creamed corn either 😂 I only love corn on the cob salty crunchy buttery and sweet 😊 though alot of people eat it here, it's a yum or no for alot of people
Pearl is jealous, yeah, but a great thing about this show is it is complex enough to allow her to be both jealous and right. She wasn't wrong about her assessment of Sugilite, or her feeling that forming Sugilite was unneeded, but she was also jealous of Sugilite for being powerful, and for Steven seeming to prefer Sugilite's physical power over Pearl's finesse.
Sugilite as a fusion isn't mostly just amethyst's personality. Amethyst is rash, and garnet is aggressive and can be very dismissive of others when she has a different opinion/thought. I don't wanna go into much spoiler as to why this part of garnet matters much into sugilite but you will see it
Fusion seems to require synchronocity, and synchronizing emotions seems to be effective. No thinking, just feeling. To forcefully undo a fusion, fused gems must desynchronize. A strong disagreement between individuals can cause them to separate, as seen in the numerous occasions when Ruby and Sapphire got into an argument and Garnet separated. It is possible for one gem to maintain the fusion as well, such as when Lapis fused with Gasper and kept her at the bottom of the sea, but that puts a lot of strain on the forceful gem. So one could say, fusion represents a passionate relationship between two or more gems, resynchronization a bad relationship, and forced maintenance of a fusion a possessive or toxic relationship.
While at first Sugalite might seem all Amethyst; if you sit analyse her you'll see some Garnet traits Sugalite has Garnet's competitive side; Amethyst usually doesn't care about win or lose, she's there for a fun time She also has Garnet's over confidence, Amethyst isn't exactly the most self confident character out there Garnet also tends to act in extremes, either being reserved, or quite brash; Sugalite just shows the hot- headedness of that combo
Your people invented haggis, the archetypal "Declare it disgusting just from hearing about it without ever trying it" food. You've got no right to judge. Creamed corn is tasty, haggis is tasty.
I don't know if you'd consider this a spoiler or not since it's only from this episode, but just in case I'll put it behind the "read more" thing. ... You might have missed something potentially interesting while you were freaking out about something else.
Yeah that fusion sance was sus af and one of the biggest contributions to the debate amongst fans on whether or not fusion is a direct metaphor for... Physical intimacy.
These are great episodes of the show, for the lore and for just general enjoyment. Giving Steven a holodeck that tries to satisfy his wants without any real feedback that that's what's happening is one of the best avenues for creepy stuff in this show that is already pretty creepy, and Sugilite is just a cool character. Maybe not actually a likeable one, that's definitely a debate we could have, but still fun to see on screen. The song is good. Good message. Just a great entry overall. Sugilite also, however, illustrates something that I find annoying about the show and its production. This is a SPOILER, so don't read ahead if you care about such things, but while it was very cool to get someone as high profile as Nicki Minaj to play a character in this show, and while she did a great job, getting her instead of a really good professional voice actor with a similar voice meant that Sugilite couldn't return in a speaking role again. She was too expensive. And while that would be fine for any recurring character normally, because they simply don't need to be around ever again if that's best for the show, the fusions are kind of always around, because their components are main characters. Now, whenever a situation arises that Sugilite could've solved, we as an audience have to shrug and ignore the fact that she just doesn't appear. It's not like I wanted them to just do the layered voice of the components thing for all of the fusions, like they do in Dragon Ball Z, getting new voices for them is definitely more interesting, but I still think another choice would've been better, in the end, for this character. We didn't even get a song! It's so frustrating. There is that one great gag that comes from it, though. You guys know the one.
"You like that, little man?"
Well, THAT makes me feel a certain way, now doesn't it. 😳
That would work on me lmao
Pearl was right in this episode.
She didn't strand the others, they broke the warp pad themselves.
She wasn't mad that Steven was working out, she was worried that he admired Suglite's power for the wrong reasons.

Super interesting actually, since the other gems werent there since steven at the time has the perception that they were never there
@@MittensZora Ah yes, including such classics as "Well, the important thing is family and friendship, honesty values, and no one got arrested."

Keep forgetting lol and still shocks me everytime
Can't even imagine how much they had to pay her for the not many lines she spoke in this episode
With such powerful voices as Patti LuPone, Christine Ebersole, etc, who stayed on the series for a long time. And Nicki Minaj charged such a high price to voice the character that Sugalite never spoke again.
I couldn’t believe that was her, I literally screamed “WHAT?!”

It's actually quite delicious too if anyone is hesitant to try it.
Canned creamed corn does not contain dairy. However, homemade creamed corn does.
There are recipes that do call for cooking corn in actual milk, but creamed corn was originally a Native American dish and was made by cooking corn in corn milk (the starchy liquid produced by scraping the cob after cutting off the kernels). So the canned stuff is more authentic, in that sense.
Fun fact- the whale in Rose's Room is voiced by Susan Egan, who also voices Meg in Hercules. It's cool how a small role can connect to Disney classics
Steven universe is cartoon network not Disney?

I love Amethyst being just immediately down to start biting people; pure Gremlin energy.
Coach Steven is a gem (pun intended) of these early episodes. Its synopsis was available online months before it actually aired, so there was a lot of hype built around the new fusion. There's some fanart from back in the day speculating what Sugilite would look like, and they all looked way closer to Opal since that was our only frame of reference for fusions. I like what we ended up getting better, especially for how it alludes to what fusion can be. You're right to anticipate more; one of the coolest facets of the show.
If it had been later in the series, the official synopsis would have been something like "Steven works out with some friends."
And then there's [REDACTED], who is perfect, and who we shall not hear a single word against.

There's more I'd like to say on the topic, but it will have to wait until Mosco meets [SPOILERS].
We actually saw Rose's Room back in Together Breakfast, when Steven was using the vein as firefighter's pole.
Basically sugalites entire personality: 13:20
What do you think it'll be her reaction when she finds out that onion is in reality white diamond
Black Diamond* we can't confuse the two here
*yellow diamond. People predicted it all the way back in 2015!! So cool

Creamed corn was more of a thing in the 80s i think. When I was growing up in the 90s was the last time I remember someone actually eating it.
Oh, you're just getting started. Get ready for one of the best animated series in history :)
But she is VERY POWERFUL
SO a fusion of someone plus Garnet isn't a merger of personalities... but... The first gems personality TURNED UP TO ELEVEN!
20:04 i never noticed that glance back at the [REDACTED] statue before.
13:42 and that’s the start of how Toothless and the Light Furry got busy
Cream corn: not even most Americans like it. The hatred for it goes with spam and powdered orange juice. Army rations basically.
Nicki Minaj's voice sounds like the perfect fusion of Garnet and Amethyst somehow. Phenomenal casting 🌟
I love your videos about steven universe, say hi to the brazilian public
Yay, someone that hates Cream Corn as much as me.
can't wait for the episode where Pearl has to rebuild the tower in order to send a message to Steven to save him from a new, evil gem.
Btw idk if this counts as spoilers but pearl is canonically a lesbian character
Sugilite as a fusion isn't mostly just amethyst's personality. Amethyst is rash, and garnet is aggressive and can be very dismissive of others when she has a different opinion/thought.
I don't wanna go into much spoiler as to why this part of garnet matters much into sugilite but you will see it
Cute shirt 🤎🧡🤍🩷💜
Creamed corn is so fkn good, trust
SPOILER ALERT:
To some of your questions: Yes
To others: No
Fusion seems to require synchronocity, and synchronizing emotions seems to be effective.
To be fair, I'm American and I absolutely hate cream corn. Blegh
The rpg is probably a combo of pokemon and final fantasy
NICKI MINAJ LETS GO
I didn't know you were watching SU, time to catch up!
While at first Sugalite might seem all Amethyst; if you sit analyse her you'll see some Garnet traits
Sugalite has Garnet's competitive side; Amethyst usually doesn't care about win or lose, she's there for a fun time
She also has Garnet's over confidence, Amethyst isn't exactly the most self confident character out there
Garnet also tends to act in extremes, either being reserved, or quite brash; Sugalite just shows the hot- headedness of that combo
Your people invented haggis, the archetypal "Declare it disgusting just from hearing about it without ever trying it" food. You've got no right to judge. Creamed corn is tasty, haggis is tasty.
I fucking love the fact your wearing your gfs merch. Also this is the only episode that Sugalite speaks cause she was voiced by Nicki Minaj.
I don't know if you'd consider this a spoiler or not since it's only from this episode, but just in case I'll put it behind the "read more" thing.
...
You might have missed something potentially interesting while you were freaking out about something else.
YESS ITS PEAK ITS PEAK 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙂
Mosco's gonna LOVE Teardrop. (I don't mean the asshole one i mean the other one)
Yeah that fusion sance was sus af and one of the biggest contributions to the debate amongst fans on whether or not fusion is a direct metaphor for... Physical intimacy.
GETTING CLOSER QND CLOSER TO MY FAVOURITE SEASON 1 EPISODES (AND THE END OF SEASON 1A)!!
Lol just your reaction to cream corn! Perfect! But just to let you know it's nice and tastes good!
This was such a good episode!!!
Sweet corn is really good.
17:13 I don’t mind you fast forwarding through the songs. Especially since we still get to see you, just spend up.
You guys know the one.
these videos are a gem ✨✨✨
