TALES FROM NERDVILLE by Joe Bonamassa
    SLIDE AREA
One of Joe Bonamassa's favorite styles of guitar playing is slide guitar. There are slide players who have dedicated their lives to the craft, including the dreaded intonation - playing slide in tune, which is not easy - and have become true masters of the intricacies of slide guitar technique.

So tired of hearing Joe say he isn't a slide player. He is great I love to hear it. Joe is a force! ❤

Says he can't really play slide and then throws down some very mean perfect slide playing. Plus the sound is just killer.

You are so modest that it's contagious. Even if you play 1 note the way you dig in to get the "Tone" is the real talent, you make it sound the way it would sound on a 50s/60s/70s etc recording. Experimenting with Electric Guitars should be mandatory in Music classes...after all that's what brought them to life in the first place.More vids please!

I first saw Joe while he was still in high school. He played someplace in Greenwich Village, and I think his father drove him down from upstate New York. A friend of mine also from upstate got us to go, to I think The Bitter End.
Joe was a young phenom then. And, he has just gotten better.
I have not spoke to him since, but he was genuinely nice, as was his father. We had a short but nice conversation about some Blues. I have seen Joe play since. He still seems nice, and he can pretty much play what he wants.
    Thanks for this video.

Joe you are the greatest most humble guitar player I know. That telecaster in the background is beautiful. Miley Cyrus on MTV Unplugged singing Lou Reed’s Sweet Jane, she has eyelid makeup with green, black, gold, and silver metal flake. I wish some custom shop could paint a tele that exact same color of metal flake. 👍🎸😎✌️

There's Duane Allman then there's everyone else..... I'm old enough to have seen him play three times before he passed.....sure miss those boys
Lowell George was pretty good and so was Ry Cooder.....hold the slide over the fret for the best intonation

Mr. Duane Allman made people want to play Slide Guitar, He Was The Best, Next to Jessie Ed Davis, That made Duane want to play slide, From the first Taj Mahal album , That Gregg left on his front porch, with a Bottle of Coricidin , Medicine due to his falling off a Horse while riding, Due to Gregg;s Idea For the day, It is A Strange way how things happen, The Rest is History, May He & Jessie, R.I.P. Cousin Figel

Very useful info. I just recently got into playing around with a slide and I'm new to playing in open E tuning. So definitely was helpful to be able to see how the placement of the slide differs from playing in standard tuning.

I think with his ear for tone and his knowledge of the fretboard, if he dedicated one guitar to playing slide, pulled the frets and put on flat wound strings a whole new universe would open up for him.

Thanks Joe. Regarding intonation. What frequency do you use on the A string. My limited understanding is there are a couple of schools of thot. 'Concert' vs ???

"And it is fun". Its also necessary when you break your fret-hand's ring finger playing Snap with competitive teenagers. It'll be slide for me for awhile...kinda lucky that it was my ring finger actually.

Would you comment about set up of the guitar for slide? Slightly higher string height?

A very full and swampy sound. I'm hearing Cooder and Lowell most of all.

Here's a great performance of Joe playing slide from soulful to rock. Reminiscent of Ry Cooder "Feelin' Bad Blues"

Pedal steel and lap steel guitars have one pickup. Single pickup guitars are best for slide IMHO What about Joe Walsh and George Harrison? Let’s not forget Johnny Winter.

I stopped this video to see if a fire engine or cop was coming down my street. I use a brass slide on my little finger so I can use my other 3 fingers for lead.
