    I never put anything but salt., pepper and butter. But i cook mine for a real long time until the taters release their starch and get a but mushy but do not fall all apart. Just like my granny did. It really makes my hubby happy when i stew potatoes.

    I grew up in Virginia but lived in coastal North Carolina before moving back to Virginia. I am used to stewed potatoes like you fixed them. In Carolina their stewed potatoes were prepared like mashed potatoes but instead of using milk they just used the water they boiled them in to mash them and added butter. Needless to say I was confused when I first had them . I Guess regionally we all do things a little differently. I find the differences interesting

      Some people think the way they do it is the only way because they have never tried things from other places. I have been told I was not country, not southern etc by people who think their way of doing things is the only way LOL!

    • @Imstressless
      @Imstressless ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm in Carolina and I've never had a 'mashed' stewed potato.
      I add onions, salt, pepper, butter while its boiling. The potato's thicken on their own no need for that corn starch mess.
      We called them Irish potatoes. Sometimes I add cheese on top.

    You need luscious potatoes from Maine! We are a potato growing State. 1/2 of the state grows potatoes! Including Kennebec which are sought after by famous chefs and they are a delicious potato. What gets exported from Maine is lovely what stays in Maine not so much but they still taste better than any other Potato I have had and I've lived overseas. The UK has a couple that would give Maine a run for their money.

    I was raised on stewed potatoes, love them. Mama made them for my Uncle each Sunday when they visited, he was really fond of hers. Mama usually had them once during the week as well, and I NEVER grew tired of them. She actually fried fatback (sort of like bacon) and used a few of the drippings from that to season them instead of butter, and only added salt. A few that ate with us didn’t like pepper cooked in it, so we added it at the table. We’d eat the fried fatback along with our meal, which usually consisted of several other vegetables in season and cornbread. It was delicious.
    These looked delicious as well! Thanks Tammy.

    I moved to north AL 11 years ago and discovered the love affair with Russet potatoes. I like them for baking, but, for me, I way prefer the Kennebec potato. If you have never had some, please try them. I bet you'll love them. They are not as mealy, retain solid chunks in potato salad, and have a lower starch content. Love your channel.
