As one of the authors on Slasher, I take keeping you up nights as a point of pride. :)
I am, however, just as uncomfortable with the notion of playing one as you are, I think.

I see your point Kurt. I meen. our hoppy has been acussed in the past for spawning inesent youngsters in to Psykos and even do I dont think SLASHERS will turn its players in to killers. It kind of bothers me, what game can case reactions in the Nonplayer ceciety. Big Fan of Hunters do, and all you Werewolf the forsken players, by the Spirithunter book. Gave me LOTS of idées for interfering with Wolfblooded humens!

I'm the same way when it comes to anything horror related. I don't get scared of anything supernatural but when it comes to serial killer they scare the shit out of me. To know that there's people like that out there gets my anxiety level at red.

I would agree to that. Keeping folks up at night is what WoD is all about! :D I agree with Kurt that the plausibility of Slasher is what makes it so frightening. Most people have been exposed to horror and scifi monsters since they were kids and have to "re-discover" their ability to be scared by them, but with Slasher, you know that there actually are people like that sharing the world with you. The movie Hostel gave me the same feeling.

But the legend already has a name for himself, they are like the killer from the final I know what you did last summer movie, it's a supernatural killer.

I'm with Mr East here. While it is no more likely that SLASHERS will make a kid go Gacy than D&D made us into devil worshipers I worry the impression this will make on people outside the hobby. All we need is some concerned soccer mom seeing this at the local bookstore and starting a whole new wave of anti-roleplay sentiment. That said i'm really looking forward to getting these books, my group is just starting a Hunter Game and half of us only know old WOD and the rest don't know it at all.

I could see someone playing a Serial Killer along side some of the supernaturals in the game - an honest to goodness sociopath might even be played well enough to be disturbing to vamps and wolves, as he doesn't do it to survive, he has given up his humanity while most everyone else is still trying to hold on to it.
Been awhile since I read this, but as I recall it isn't just covering Serial Killers, but Jason type Slasher Movie killers. (which maybe you should have mentioned more

Thinking about getting this series and making a short of online Podcast of our gameplay! Also my game will probably take place in Twin Falls! Seems like a nice quiet little town where monsters could easily hide!

When Slasher doesn't haunt Kurt's dreams, Sean Preston does.

So Slasher is a bit more disturbing than, say, Changeling the Lost?.

    Kurt,
Well done. I had the Slasher book and I agree that it can be disturbing. I liked the background essays that dealth with entire Slasher genre. All in all, a very thoughtful and thought provoking review.

Really, Slasher is sort of a callback to Hunter: The Reckoning Waywards.

I know how you feel about Slasher. I had similar thoughts about Changeling the Lost. Not because of the content, but the things that were going through my mind of what I could do with such a game. I still get freaked out by the boogeyman and monsters in the closet. Real Ghostbusters left too big of an impression on me as a young child.

The only things that truly frighten me are demonic possession and psychopaths/insanity in general (which many have conjectured may be the same thing). So I feel ya with this one.
