    Through the magic of Google, I recently learned that my grandfather is an official draft dodger. He came to the US from Italy when he was 16. When the Italian military draft board called him up, he was living in New Jersey and had married my grandmother a year or 2 before. Either they didn't check to see if he still lived in Italy, and/or they didn't believe relatives who told them he'd left. This all went down in the early 1900s and there's an Italian governmental website that still lists him as failing to report for service. My point is, grandpa had a good happy life here for the 50+ years. May you thrive as well.

    • @telebubba5527
      @telebubba5527 ปีที่แล้ว +91

      He probably was still Italian at the time and thus still under Italian law. For military draft it doesn't matter where you live, you're an Italian citizen and that's what counts. It's still the same for countries where there's still a draft. Like Turkey, for them it doesn't matter what your passport is. Once a Turk, always a Turk down the generations. It's still a problem for them, most just pay it off.

    good day! I am a citizen of Russia and live in this country. This whole situation scares me very much and causes great hatred and anger, because I morally cannot take out this circus that is taking place in the political arena in our country. My friend's father was called to the front last fall, and the funny thing is that his family had to pay out of their own pocket for normal military armor and special accessories. Because the state itself gives out already battered, unsuitable military supplies and armor. FUUUUUCK, most of the funds from our taxes go to support military defense, but did they not have enough funds for their own soldiers? And there are many such cases. And now there are electronic summonses. This is already a degree of insanity, and damn, we can't even be indignant about it, we won't be satisfied with this "about the deprivation of our rights", because now everyone will be beaten with batons (I don't care if you are a woman, a child, a grandmother or grandfather), they will put you in a paddy wagon and for a day or a fine. And it makes me desperate. I'm already waiting for it to be at the level of Stalin's repressions

      It's striking to see how Niemöller changed - from someone who at first somewhat supported Hitler with a mix of anti-semitism and anti-communism, to a leading oppositionist, a concentration camp victim and someone who warned for that complacency, for going along, for not opposing war or repression.
      He wasn't fully apolitical, but went along for reasons he later considered foolish - and guilty. Truly someone who repented and spent all his power to make things right. Basically, my mom left an EU country we lived in about 2 years ago, without any warning. And saying that she's gone completely fucking insane would be an understatement, so, fear of everything that was going on overtook her and she now hardcore believes in Russian propaganda. (she took it satire 2 years ago..) And sitting in front of the tv and watching it like it's nothing. With my life being completely taken away, and me knowing that all my friends are living their life out,, (she's also convincing me that I'm MENTALLY Russian even though i feel like im being gaslighted since i don't feel like that, it has been extremely difficult to "blend in" because i just don't get it, i spend my whole life in a completely different place...) and me having no fucking support here - even worse: I'm scared if i might say this to anyone, they would defend my mom because of worldview. For an example: The school "therapist" invalidated what i felt and when i asked them if they've EVER been in a situation like this - they replied with: Yes, i've been, i needed to move city's. It's clear they don't get it... I'm not your fucking suitcase that you can bring everywhere you want.. (cause that's all that happened so far.)
    and things only escalated and escalated, NO ONE GIVES A SHIT.

      The only 2 options to end this war is either a balkanization of russia, or a 1917-styled civil war.
      Ukrainian victory is confirmed, the question is not if, but which date the victory would be achieved?
      However, after the war ends, you'd see horror scenes in Donetsk, Mariupol, Melitopol, and every territory occupied by russia for a long time, because you'd find some mass graves of massacred Ukrainians, as how there are ottoman era Greek mass graves in Cappadocia perpetrated by turks.
      I hope the Ukrainian intelligence learns from Armenia and Israel (especially Israel) to hunt russian war criminals down like the Jews did to the black september terror group and eichmann, because the world will fail them in doing justice by hunting russian war criminals down just like how they failed to do so to all german and co. war criminals after their genocidal campaign against Jews, and just like how they failed to do so to turkish and kurdish war criminals after the tri-genoicde against Assyrians, Greeks and Armenians (in which Soghomon Tehlirian took the matter into his own hands (rightfully) to assassinate the bloodthirsty talaat pasha).

      In seriousness you are right. Up to this point the conscripted Russians are nowhere to be seen in any contact line, actually that’s the big question of every analyst, where are they and when will they be deployed. From what I understand they called only reservists, not fresh recruits and only a small percentage with battle experience from previous conflicts (mainly Syria) were deployed to fill in the ranks of battle units. I’m guessing that some of them might opted for Wagner because they would prefer to be in a more professional and better equipped unit, than being in an army unit with inexperienced personnel.
      When I was in the army, we had a captain that was completely crazy about training exercises etc, but he was also the first that would do what he asked us.
