    Hi Everyone and Welcome Back to My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing tutorial.
    This weel is a fun top with some interesting details! the sleeves are full enough and are gathered into a band at the shoulder... and what a wide shoulder it is! I cut out this pattern by combining 3 different sizes in different parts to make sure it fits. And of course, I choose a fabric outside of the "recommended" fabric list, by doing it in a cheerful cotton flannel.
    Hope you like it!
    ~Marie

    I love the garments that you give tutorials. I noticed that you will wear that. piece in a subsequent video. I am wondering if at the beginning of the video, you could quickly show us the pattern you used. For instance, at the opening as you begin to speak, you show us the blouse you are wearing, give us the pattern number, and if you did a previous video tutorial. Thanks ! It has helped this old seamstress, get back on track.

    I love your relaxed approach to sewing. We all forget that the world really is not going to end if we don’t do it exactly like the instructions. As long as we get there in the end, it does not matter in the slightest which path we follow to get there. Your rooster agrees! 😂
    It was interesting to see how you adapted for that wide neckline. I hate necklines like that, dropping off my shoulder and bra straps showing, so i tend to avoid them like the plague. In hindsight, i wonder if that little bias strap could have been made wider to give a bit more coverage. IDK if it actually works like that, it seems to simple.
    Another great video! Food for thought on overcoming wide necklines.

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Could yes, I think that if the bias strip was about an inch wider it would have done the trick. Thanks for watching

    This is such a lovely blouse. I do like square necks. I have narrow shoulders so I would have to think about down sizing across that area and perhaps making the bias wider so the blouse does not fall off.

    Thought after watching this video again... In trying the binding foot, try pressing your binding seams OPEN instead of pressing them to one side. Not sure if they will help, but when quilting it will help with spreading the thickness of the seam. Just a thought.

    I'm wondering if one could make the bias pieces at the shoulders slightly wider to better cover the basic bra strap. It came out really nice. While it doesn't drape, it instead stands out to match the bell shape of the sleeves. I like how you are a bit of a rebel going your own way.

    Cute fabric! Your new blouse is lovely. 🎊 Thanks for sharing your work.
    Good try on the binder foot. Mom & I tried using one at a workshop a few years ago. She’s been sewing as long as I can remember, but she was NOT impressed by that thing.😱🤣
    I like your detailed explanation of how to make adjustments to a commercial pattern to improve the fit. I’ve learned a great deal.
    Was wondering. Do you wash all your fabrics each time you buy it or do you wash it right before using it?

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! I wash my fabrics whenever I get a chance. Sometimes I wash them early and then just put them in the cabinet and sometimes I wait until just before I use them. But I do search the cut edges before I wash them. And that way I can know if a piece of fabric is in my cabinet whether it's been washed before or not. Thanks for watching

      I think my biggest trouble with the binder was when I went over a seam in my binding tape. I think that it would have worked if I had one very long strip that wasn't pieced together. Oh well,

    Can I ask when you buy fabric that you like and don't have a specific pattern in mind how much do you buy,? thanks

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's different for each fabric. In general I don't buy less than two and a half yards, in general. Also if it's going to be a dress I like to buy at least four yards if it's going to be a shirt I like to buy 3 yards. This might give me extra, it might not, but at least I know I have a piece big enough to make something. Now if it's on sale and I really like it, I might just buy the whole bolt if there's about 6 yards on it. You never know.
