He got me two of the ones on your list, and when I opened them for Christmas, he went on about what a helpful, kind, and all around stand up guy you were. Today, I picked open my first lock! I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to give him personal advice and help me start a hobby I’ve been interested in for a long time since watching your videos! Thanks again!
Good to see some locks coming from a fellow Aussie to watch being picked, recently had me and a few neighbours have to have our ceilings replaced so we had to store our stuff in shipping containers that had awful master lock combination locks on them at the time which thanks to one of your earlier videos showed how easy they were to get into, I demonstrated quite easily how quick someone with minimal lockpicking experience could find the combinations by opening them myself, I then mentioned that video to the people in charge of the containers and they quickly gave us better locks for us to use. May have saved a few of us from losing our stuff 👌

Yeah, I got myself a MasterLock combination lock recently as something to get started on lock “picking”, and was disappointed how fast it became a fidget toy - I've gotten to the point that I can hold it in the same hand I'm twirling the dial with, and use the weight of the shackle for tension, resulting in a completely one-handed blind open without even touching the shackle. I guess I *was* going for an easy starter lock…
@@Autoskip I have a new guy at work who forgot the combination for his lock. He has it saved on his phone which is in his locker. 🤦♂️ So I showed him how to get the combo by using the “touch” method I learned from LPL. If I weren’t an honest man I could steal everyone’s phones and wallets at work.

My very own covert companion arrived last week here in the Netherlands. Best thing I found it is that a great turning tool makes such big difference. I still can't single pin lockpick, but I sure look fancy now while trying :)

I got my covert companion a couple of weeks ago, and have been trying it out on some Abus padlocks I bought. I'm not getting very far yet - managed to open one once, more by luck than judgement.
I have had mine for 2 months now and there are a couple things you can do to improve your chances of success. A. Add an additional washer on each end. This makes the tool just a little more stiffer and not as flip floppy in your hand. B. Try the inverted method. (Pins down) Use your index finger to apply force to the back of the pick to set the pins instead of rocking the pick against the key way to create pressure on the pins. Takes some getting use to. But easier with this tool configuration. C. Always go with the thickest tension wrench you can use.
I channeled my inner lockpickinglawyer the other day, i got locked out of my house (left the keys on the table, I hate locks that you can lock without a key) but I used the keypad to open the garage door which gave me access to my toolbox. I then used a simple pick to defeat the always easily openable garage door to get inside the house. Seriously if people knew just how easy it was to open that door inside their garage I bet a lot less people would go out leaving their garages wide the hell open. Seriously my neighbor across the street did it so much when they first moved in it drove me insane. I can literally open most garage doors in seconds with a bend hook of wire.
I think a number of those open garages are caused by the electronic openers not having very many different codes or worse being installed and left on the default code. Years ago, my parents' garage door was open a few times when we were all sure it had been closed.

Absolutely. My better half got herslef a really nice bike so she could ride to work occasionally - I said "you're getting a Squire Stronghold lock and chain or you're catching the bus" and yeah, she's got the SS65 and the Motolok 16mm x 1.5m chain to keep her bike secure...
His biggest Australian coup was picking a BiLock. Love to see him pick a Galaxy if anyone can obtain and send him one (you cannot buy them from Bunnings).

There are times that he does still do that. For one it makes the video way to long, viewers do not always watch that part, its too repetitive to keep showing the same thing over and over.

In lock sport if the lock can be dismantled, you need to do so on camera as part of the same continuous take as the picking (keeping the lock in shot at all times) to prove that you've not tampered with the lock. Otherwise you can't claim you've picked it, since you might've gone in beforehand and removed all but one pin etc.
here in the Philippines these Yale pad locks are classified as a high end pad lock. the rest of the locks here are a joke. but this is the only pad locks here that I have found that you cant rake open.

Probably a rebaged Chinese lock.. Well known company but not for padlocks, they make or made door locks.. They may be like lots of companies now who are owned by a random bunch of rich people who use up the name until he thought off as crap..
@@zakofrx I was thinking it's probably made by a chinese company that bought the name - like many well known brand names from the past that closed up they were bought (or just stolen) by the chinese who now try to trade off the good reputation those brands once had. A good example is AKAI - they used to make some pretty good home audio products in the 70s and 80s. Now the name is used by a chinese company and they make cheap quality toasters, rice cookers and similar items using the name. However, I see that Yale is actually part of the ASSA ABLOY group - and they make some high end lock products. In this instance, it's probably just the graphic design artist who composed the artwork for the cardboard backing that can't spell.

Idk about that, usually the person designing the packaging isn't the same person who built the lock. Even if it was, I doubt the world spelling bee champion could design a good lock.
Just got my first lockpicking set, and for the first time in a long time, I have found something i can do for hours. After watching many of your videos, I wanted to try myself, 5 hours later my fingers and hand was hurting, but i just love it. It's a good hobby for someone like me with ADHD, i just go into "hyper-focus" mode :) keep up the nice work, i will go watch some more videos for newbies like myself :)

It's a lock your average buyer would be enticed into buying, looks good, anti pick claims etc but when it comes to really being secure it drops the ball, just asthaetcally pleasing. I think that while LPL demonstrates he indeed can easily pick that. For him its easily done, lots of experience, and hes sat in a nice warm studio with the luxury of the lock in his hand. In the real world? That might tip the balance back a little.
1st IANAL, but I do have a LLB in Australian law (but I have never practiced law and am not admitted to the Bar in any state nor Federally). There may be recourse available under Australian law. You wouldn't sue them, but you could complain to the ACCC claiming a breach of s18 of the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) (Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), Schedule 2, s18(1)), under which "A person must not, in trade or commerce, engage in conduct that is misleading or deceptive or is likely to mislead or deceive." To make this stick you'd really need a second video from @LockPickingLawyer showing a breakdown of the core and proving that there are no anti-picking features other than the keyway. Armed with this the ACCC would probably do nothing, as they are chronically under-resourced, but if they do take it up it would open up a world of mild discomfort for Yale. They could seek a fine, but they are more likely to settle with Yale for an undertaking, typically a product recall, removal of the offending claim from the packaging, and a fairly large and obvious banner on their website saying that they have lied about their locks features. So a ton of embarrassment and loss of face, some expense in the recall, but nothing that would send them bankrupt. Still, it would be amusing to submit a claim to the ACCC based on a couple of youtube videos - especially since it would actually contain enough evidence should they take it up (well, if you can also track down and document a physical store selling these locks in Australia).
@@jamesnagle5221 The only way I see it working is if someone actually lost something. You would need evidence that the lock was picked, and what was stolen. Then you can sue for damages and false advertising.
Got my covert companion with expansion pack. Only issue I have is it doesn’t tighten up enough for the picks not to want to flop around. Needs more washers with the kit. Bypass door tool -brilliant! Picks- very nice, high quality Gigglers- 50/50 hate/love Rakes- very nice, 5 ⭐️ Lever lock picks - meh...2 ⭐️ Room for improvement Expansion 2: Tension wrench for barrel locks Pick blanks in two thicknesses to make your own picks to add to the tool. The Yale latch lock on our front door has held up for well over 30 years with no maintenance. They’re generally not the highest security locks but they’re nicely built.
Yale products today have little relation to traditional Yale which had its main plants in Stamford, Connecticut and Willenhall, England. The brand fell into the hands of ASSA-Abloy who uses it as a brand for consumer grade products manufactured in China etc.

The anti-lockpicking feature is actually that it comes pre-coated in butter, causing LPL to drop his turning tool soon after grabbing the lock

But literally better than any masterlock you’ve went after.
Masterlocks can be opened by a stiff breeze, so that's a pretty low bar.

No there was the plastic bodied TOLO masterlock that had a surprisingly good core.
At this point, I'm pretty sure every masterlock just pops open upon his approach.

I miss those old times when LPL would disassemble all the components of the lock and explain about it

I think that while LPL demonstrates he indeed can easily pick that. For him its easily done, lots of experience, and hes sat in a nice warm studio with the luxury of the lock in his hand. In the real world? That might tip the balance back a little.

To be fair though, LPL can seemingly get into anything. Even locks that "locksmiths" say are not pickable.
1st IANAL, but I do have a LLB in Australian law (but I have never practiced law and am not admitted to the Bar in any state nor Federally). There may be recourse available under Australian law. You wouldn't sue them, but you could complain to the ACCC claiming a breach of s18 of the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) (Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), Schedule 2, s18(1)), under which "A person must not, in trade or commerce, engage in conduct that is misleading or deceptive or is likely to mislead or deceive." To make this stick you'd really need a second video from @LockPickingLawyer showing a breakdown of the core and proving that there are no anti-picking features other than the keyway. Armed with this the ACCC would probably do nothing, as they are chronically under-resourced, but if they do take it up it would open up a world of mild discomfort for Yale. They could seek a fine, but they are more likely to settle with Yale for an undertaking, typically a product recall, removal of the offending claim from the packaging, and a fairly large and obvious banner on their website saying that they have lied about their locks features. So a ton of embarrassment and loss of face, some expense in the recall, but nothing that would send them bankrupt.
Still, it would be amusing to submit a claim to the ACCC based on a couple of youtube videos - especially since it would actually contain enough evidence should they take it up (well, if you can also track down and document a physical store selling these locks in Australia).
@@jamesnagle5221 The only way I see it working is if someone actually lost something. You would need evidence that the lock was picked, and what was stolen. Then you can sue for damages and false advertising.
A supermarket lock still takes longer to pick than a Master lock... WHAT?

Got my covert companion with expansion pack. Only issue I have is it doesn’t tighten up enough for the picks not to want to flop around. Needs more washers with the kit.

in Australia we generally use the 2 wrenches or portable angle grinder lock picking tools

You probably can't open many locks with an excavator, but you can open almost every door with it.
I'm watching Cowboy Bebop on Netflix (super scifi), and the show forces you to let go of so many rational things, in the name of art, ok, ok, sure, but.... The Yale latch lock on our front door has held up for well over 30 years with no maintenance. They’re generally not the highest security locks but they’re nicely built.
Yale products today have little relation to traditional Yale which had its main plants in Stamford, Connecticut and Willenhall, England. The brand fell into the hands of ASSA-Abloy who uses it as a brand for consumer grade products manufactured in China etc.
