My Irish aunt taught my sister and I this song in 1956. My sister and I sung it at parties for years when we were young. A lovely.version and so nice to hear it after all these years. Going to Ireland every year we learned many songs including The Boys from the County Armagh and The Hills of Donegal to name a couple. Happy days and lovely memories as my sister just passed away two weeks ago. From Bonnie Scotland.
The first Irish song I ever heard when I was a child. When I heard Dominic singing this I knew I had heard the perfect voice for my favourite song xxxx
It is a dam good version. Fair play to him. He makes a fine job of it. He always had great respect, for old Irish songs. He might leave some important legacy. He is miles ahead, of all the poor Irish country singers on the scene today.
This is fantastic! what a voice ! What a singer! Bought this on cassette 1991-92 played it till it broke ! Studio version is also Just the best! Thank you for posting this live version !
You know something Dominic you are some singer by far the best in reland...that arrangement is supserb what a build up.........the best I have ever heard,
Anyone here ever heard of DJ Curtin? They all sing it after hearing him do it. Someone down along in the comments here said Elvis did it, no he didn't. Roly did this, Dominic, Jimmy Buckley, they all have their own songs etc but this song is truly wedded forever to the Tralee man in Las Vegas, and Dominic knows it, he went to see him sing it every time he did on the Gertrude Byrne Irish Cruise, with Brendan Grace RIP.
To the above comment is well put.I heard DJ sing it in a dance hall beside the Harp bar, in Dublins O' Connells St. The night before the hurling All Ireland final 1979. He was absolutety Superb. It hit the sweet job. and in my opinion the best, until I heard Dominic. There like two peas in a pod. You cant beat talent
I agree Leftstrum - fabulous rendition - have seen him live 3 times and are booked for another 2 weekends - he is so much better live than on some of his CDs - great show
@hugo hackenbush. I was actually in this band that you reckoned finished a lot of lines on the wrong chord.Perhaps you might be good enough to point out to me where exactly these errors are. This was 25 yrs ago and I still remember playing open air in Donegal the night b4 this, travelling through the night to the airport, flying to Glasgow then on by taxi to Dundee and we done this full concert video with crap hired gear and no sleep.I have been a touring and recording musician now for 27 years, have produced quite a few albums and personally know the musically ability of each of those guys on that stage. They are well above pub standard I can assure you my friend. And anyway,I have heard musicians in pubs recently who have made my jaw drop. I just felt I had to right a wrong comment here, and I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Well said Al. I can personally vouch for all the guys on the stage too as many a time I travelled with the band to gigs all over Ireland. They were one tight band and personally speaking the best group of musician's that Dominic ever had behind him.
Very well put and to me it's the same with many other's. Dominic Kirwan and his band was just brilliant with this song. When they do perform it's done right or not at all. Dominic as many of us know has sung and performed very well with many brilliant great shows. He has sung to many sold out shows. He never wastes time performing. And he has been around and got to know other professional talent performer's. This is another great brilliant song. Dominic a true talent.
This song seems perfect for Tom jones’ voice. To my knowledge he never recorded it. Would love to hear him sing it. Though this fella did it really well for sure
Lovely song, beautifully sung by a very young looking Dominic : ) As somebody said earlier, the studio version of this is spot on, very moving and very professionally arranged. This live rendition..., whilst it's OK, is very badly let down by the backing band who kept finishing a lot of the lines on the wrong chord, the vocals are , as usual, excellent, but unfortunately the backing on this clip is barely passable for pub standard. Seen him live at concerts and his band were much better.
@RIFFCLITCHARD oh I see... I guess there are many singers and celebs, who are actually not very nice people in person. Anyway thanks for your forthright comment
@nobberr unfortuneatly Elvis never recorded this song, you may be thinking of "I'll take you home again Kathleen" or "Danny Boy" he did record both of these but never "Noreen Bawn"
@RIFFCLITCHARD As I don't know and have never met Dominic I can't dispute your comments about his personality, but to say ''he's got no talent''...o come on, be fair...maybe your dislike of his personality is clouding your judgment a teeny bit?... perhaps?
How good are you Hudson Rivers. You must be some singer if you call that average, and might I add that Ireland produced great stars which you call average
Lovely song but I'm afraid this version doesn't work for me. I find it too slow and jerky. Sounds better I think when it flows in waltz time . But hey -opinions ,opinions !🙂 Susan McCann 's version is spot on - perfect tempo and a beautiful timbre in her voice that really suits the song .
Commercial version of this song. He doesn't sound Irish at all. I grant it's a good cover for a dance hall sort of thing. Not happy when Irish singers (aka Paul Brady) lose their native way of singing and try to sound English or American.
Dominic, you really have a great voice and I love your rendition of Noreen Bawn. You sing it from the heart. I love that song
I think that Dominic Sings the best version of Noreen Bawn ☘️
