WOW, brings back some great memories. I went to SubSchool in 1959 and stayed in the US Submarine Force for 23 years.

And this was the coldest winner I have ever spent. I was there from December 1959 until February 1960.

I never went to to sub school in 1979 and didn’t stay in them until 2003, but there again, why would I, we didn’t have any submarines in the RAF. Sorry, I know sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, I have great respect for the submarine service, both the United States and United Kingdom services are respected the world over, especially the Royal Navy submarine fleet, but as I’m English I would say that that wouldn’t I. Thanks submariners, you are, in my humble opinion, the bravest of all naval personnel, in peacetime or war. 😀😅👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Submarines are, in my humble opinion, the bravest of all naval personnel, in peacetime or war they face inherent dangers every time they put to sea, and every time the captain utters the words “dive the boat” those dangers are magnified 10 fold, submariners past, present or future you have my total respect, I salute you. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
P.S, Seeing the use of the simulators that were in use back when this film was made brought a small smile to my face, my son is in the modern simulator industry working with military systems, his world revolves around computer generated simulation that puts these ones in perspective, I would bet that a modern calculator has more computing power than all the simulators in use at sub school of this era.
Serious question, what would be the course of action if a highly trained and experienced submariner doing his re-qualification on the dive tank failed to re-qualify?, under normal circumstances I would expect that they would be given several opportunities to pass, and if they still failed they might be transferred to the surface fleet, get given a desk job, and even discharged from the service, but in the case of submariners they are so highly skilled, have the right psychological mindset, and cost a huge sum to train, so the cost to the service and the taxpayers would be huge, would they be allowed to carry on in submarines or is it a hard and fast rule?, no qualification and they are no longer allowed to be a submariner. I ask these questions because a friend of mine was a submariner but left the service for personal reasons that I don’t know, and I thought maybe the re-qualification could have been said reason. And yes I know I’m being nosy 🧐 lol.

I went to welding school there in early 1977. That was a real vacation after 14 months of nuke school and prototype up at S1C in Windsor Locks. I went on to the Lewis & Clark in Charleston.
