I NEVER had the strep (I think its A and sometimes B?) that showed up on rapid tests ha ha. I had very painful strep (which seemingly came on quite suddenly) over a dozen times in childhood and into my early 20's; each time it was rare type B (or maybe C?) that ONLY ever showed up on the 3-day culture. I can't tell you how many times (especially before Obama care and I had to pay for every little thing) that I had to push to get the culture too, not just the rapid test. Many times I would have to pay $100-$300 dollars at urgent care (or worse $1200 in the ER) to have them only do the rapid, refuse the culture despite my history and protestations and tell me to "simply return" if the rapid comes back negative, but I'm still having symptoms a week later. It was so infuriating to have to show up 2 days later with my symptoms worsening so badly that I could barely speak or swallow, just to have them swab for the culture I could've had days ago. Most times, by the time I finally got the prescription for the antibiotics I needed, I had suffered from severe symptoms for at least 10 days. Keep in mind that I had to work every day I was scheduled before that point as I didn't have a doctors note with a "valid medical reason" for missing work. I worked in customer service; for many years in call centers. My literal whole job was talking to people all day. All that to say, that "rapid tests" are a great tool for certain diagnoses, but I worry that they can and are often solely relied upon for diagnoses which should consider and employ other/alternative testing methods; Especially when patient history suggests atypical disease manifestation for given potential diagnoses.
And also, the best exam to get good samples of material that could contain TB bacteria (and therefore grow on the equivalent of the sheep's blood thing) is an invasive exam, which is always uncomfortable and something doctors try to avoid submitting their patients to. GeneXpert does not need that! So it is also more comfortable for patients!
Well, I thought I had bronchitis, because my cough wouldn't go away after coughing for 2 weeks, but now it's basically out of my system, so I don't think I have any at the moment
I have a fairly common illness where there is not test. The test is basically they test you for everything else and if you don't have anything else then you have this. Which is a very strange way to diagnose someone. I have ME/CFS (and POTS and MCAS, which kind of have tests, but very bad and not accurate ones). And luckily my illness isn't fatal for most people (there have been a few fatalities over the years but it is very rare). But it does rob so many of us of the things that make life worth living. It can be an extremely debilitating illness. And I probably got the illness from COVID, like so many other people with Long COVID. But because the illness isn't fatal it is the least researched/funded major illnesses there is. By quite a wide margin if compared to other chronic illnesses. But it affects millions of people wordwide and so many of us have lost everything because of it. I don't mean to try to steal the spotlight from TB or cancer or any other illness. It's truely inspiring the work you and your brother are doing on these illnesses and health in general. I just wanted to also shine a bit of a light onto ME/CFS and all of the other comorbide illnesses that go along with it like POTS, MCAS, Elhers-Danlos Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Sjogrens, small fibre neuropathy, and many more. I do believe they are all part of one genetic condition that just manifests differently in different people. But it's all one post viral illness. And that's why we're seeing so many people being diagnosed with it after the COVID pandemic. It needs so much more support and so much more research. Hopefully one day it will get the attention that it too deserves. That we too deserve.

All that to say, that "rapid tests" are a great tool for certain diagnoses, but I worry that they can and are often solely relied upon for diagnoses which should consider and employ other/alternative testing methods; Especially when patient history suggests atypical disease manifestation for given potential diagnoses.
Why did I just watch the title of the video change in real time while I was watching the video? Since when was that how that worked?
And also, the best exam to get good samples of material that could contain TB bacteria (and therefore grow on the equivalent of the sheep's blood thing) is an invasive exam, which is always uncomfortable and something doctors try to avoid submitting their patients to. GeneXpert does not need that! So it is also more comfortable for patients!
You know I've been wondering that
So kind of the title of this video to assume I only have one [chronic] disease.
Hank: “blah, blah blah, Danaher…”
Danaher: 😬
TB FIGHTERS UNITE
I thought this was gonna be a Lady Gaga video 😂
Well, I thought I had bronchitis, because my cough wouldn't go away after coughing for 2 weeks, but now it's basically out of my system, so I don't think I have any at the moment
Soon right
Hank and John Green Turtles All the Way Down ok?
I preferred the other video title
Just fyi, around 2:20 there are two clips of the same line
