When I lived at Keele and Finch back in the 80's,from my balcony I could see Downsview airport and them testing the Dash 8, with multiple take off's and landings etc! Too bad it's closing. I imagine it will be housing and maybe a park. Thanks for catching it!
Cheers! Wow, great memories for sure. Yes housing and development will be taking over, I believe the airport fully closes mid-April and then they take it from there.
Ernest l express my gratitude for the memories of the Vietnam War when my uncle worked in the modifications and cabin interior design for DeHaviland at Downsview before teaching high school mechanical drafting Etobicoke in the last high school they built namely Keillier Mackay Colliagate on Islington Avenue south of the 401.What a beautiful air base in its time.Lovely to see the final flight out from Downsview. Ernest have a great week, Happy Easter and your relatives are good. God Bless and catch you on the next flight.
I lived at 1154 Wilson Avenue, facing the east side on the seventh floor, I could see planes taking off and landing at Downsview back then, most going to the USA for the Vietnam War. Soldier transport and military hardware.I always wanted find out from my uncle what went on,but he could not talk about it, sworn to secrecy.Talk about the memories!!!
great job buddy! you never know..maybe one day they might build a fully funcitonal avro arrow to land there at the very site where it was born..but alas, the land will be bought by developers and nothing will remain except for perhaps a few pieces of runway so that tenants can get to their high rise apartments and or condos. it's the world that we live in, but who knows..see you in the next vid! cheers.
Great job Ernest! The lightning made for an unforgettable moment. Downsview will be remembered fondly, marking the end of an era. 😢
Thanks man! Absolutely!
Incredible footage Ernest, glad you were there to document this historic moment! Really sad to see Toronto close two airports in the past year though.
Thanks a lot Alex! Sure worth it but yes, crazy- two airports that contributed so much to Canadian Aviation now closing down in less than a year.
Hey that's cool, I can see the slat seals that I installed onto this aircraft.
Outstanding work Ernest! This is a wonderful souvenir of a very special moment in Canadian aviation history.
Thanks a lot Ted! :) sure was a bittersweet moment.
Nice one, Ernest 👍 it's sad it's closing after so many years 😢

Description question - I know what a brake check is, what is a break check?
Oh you’re good, I rarely get called out for spelling mistakes ;)
I actually thought it was part of the testing system and wanted an explanation.@@ErnestGutschikAviation
