I am a Garden Answer fanatic and have been watching Laura and Aaron for years. Laura introduced me to your channel and I absolutely love it. I live in Southern Arizona, so I live in a totally different climate than you....but I learn so much watching you! I feel like I am just hanging out with another gardening friend. Thanks for sharing all of your hard work 😊

Haha, that is pretty funny. My current weed seems to be Conoclinium, or blue mistflower (sometimes called perennial ageratum.) SO pretty, and it blooms late with the goldenrod and asters, but oh boy, does it spread. I am going to be moving mats of it from one area to alongside the neighbors' fence to displace weeds growing there.

Everyone should grow Plumbago. It's just late to come up each year. Beyond the flowers the leaves have great fall color. After it blooms the flower heads still make it look like it's in flowers. It gives so much and is no fuss.

Plumbago ground cover in my 7a/7b garden is wonderful. I have propagated in 1 gallon, above ground containers over the winter. Snuggled together & protected from wind. They survived! I think you will definitely see success in your in-ground plantings!

I planted 3 types of columbine, 70 total, I started from seed this year. I also planted 80 Foxglove in my garden started from seed. Nothing is a bigger $ saver then perennials started from seed. It's June 1st and all of these plants are looking great and will be ready to bloom in my garden next year.

Hi Erin! Really enjoyed your random planting projects, really appreciate that you care to drag your camera while working out in the garden. Especially that it’s not like you have all the time you need to do this. Very much appreciated ❤ Selection of plants is prime for those locations. Columbine will most probably take over and fill this space with spring joy &color before hakonechloa fills it with waves of green for the rest of the year. Russian cypress in the mixed hedge is an excellent choice. It should keep the weeds down and make the all year green carpet. Plumbago is new to me, but looks very interesting, looking forward to the updates. BTW, microbiota sounds more like other name for plankton in squarepants Bob 😊 Thanks again for sharing, you’re the best! Happy gardening!

Your instincts are spot on about thinning Columbine. I work at a native plant nursery where we grow everything from seed. We never once have had to thin any plant when we pot them up and the native columbines always do wonderfully. More seedlings per plug just mean more chances for success.

Hi Erin. I didn’t purchase columbine at the time, as it started coming up everywhere in my yard, from my neighbors yard. Black Barlow, a medium lavender and a pink. Beautiful. I shared it for years with family and friends. Then I purchased an orange, red, pink and white, and 2 different blues with white. They are so easy, and their foliage is pretty too. I want to add some yellow next. You’re right, it is the most carefree plant. Enjoy 🌿

Hi Erin! I planted some plumbago ground cover last fall. Its beginning to leaf out for me here in my zone 6b/7a. I agree the blue with the chartreuse will look great. Columbine is so pretty! I had to laugh with you about the colors. Anytime I think I have one color, it turns out its another. I grew some columbine Nora Barlow, and Lime Sorbet from seed last year that are getting ready to bloom. The foliage is also so pretty!! Great video. I love compilation videos. That's the reality for most of us gardeners, we do small projects as time allows.

Columbine is my favorite 😻 I sprinkle the seeds everywhere. I have the native red and yellow, the ubiquitous purple and white, and several of the Barlow series (the dark red is particularly lovely). I just got seeds for ‘Pink Petticoats’ because my mom wants to grow them. They’re the easiest, most lovely thing. Cute seedlings too. Love the foliage color and form.

I have what you called hardy plumbago. Love it so much. And it has fall color which is so pretty. Dies back in the winter and the moment I see new growth come spring, I use my hedger to cut it back as low as I can, and it comes back so pretty and fresh. It’s already thick and lush. Can’t wait for the flowers ❤️ It does spread, but it’s not insane. Have to stay on top of it. Just pull the wayward ones as they come up. Easy.

There is an annual plumbago which is not the same as the perennial that she is planting. She is planting ceratostigma plumbaginoides, commonly called leadwort. I remember you removing your boxwoods! What shocked me was the year you mentioned! Wow, time flies!
Florida 9b/10, we have a shrub called Blue Plumbago, plumbago capensis. I planted four last year. Now is the time to trim and feed them. They grow 5'X5' and to me very pretty. Last year they were six inches tall in a one quart can. Now they are all different size. About to grow crazy this Year. I am excited about them. They flower from spring to winter. Very pretty with Mexican Heather, Cuphea Hyssopifolia, which also blooms all year till winter.

Love plumbago. I'm in z5b MA and mine does well here in part sun. I've also seen it growing in part shade. One thing about plumbago...it's very late to emerge in spring.
If you're looking for a fabulous blue/lavender early blooming ground cover for part shade, I highly, highly recommend phlox stolonifera. Very low growing, a carpet of flowers for 2-3 weeks in early-late May. Fairly good weed suppressant and easy to manage and transplant.
If you like a longggg blooming part- to almost full shade perennial, I love my yellow corydalis. Blue green, mounding foliage to 14" × 20" or so. It will self sow after a couple of years fairly prolifically, but very easy to scuffle out.

    Celtic Pride -
You're right, that's a great list of reasons to plant it!
I just need one more tiny reason...
It would have to be Spider Mite Free - FOREVER.
My area is prone to Spider Mites, and they seem to love conifers & plants like that.
And I just can't deal with them!
    But that's just me.

I love my columbine, but between the leaf miners and cut worms I go crazy. The leaf miners make the leaves look horribly variegated, and cut worms and caterpillars take out the rest of the foliage. They leave the seed heads so they seed themselves everywhere. I let them seed because the flowers are awesome, then they get defoliated again, the bugs come, and the cycle repeats itself 😂😂

    🤣🤣My lumbago is acting up😂😂.
    Sorry, couldn’t resist.
I grew Columbine from seed 2 years ago and didn’t think they made it until I spotted a pink one in the middle of the native red ones👏🏼💃👏🏼💃. So happy! They take a bit to grow, but every year the oak gets bigger the shade makes the Columbine patch get bigger. And I had an annual visit of the Karner Blue butterfly. Every May as soon as I turn a bit of soil he visits-briefly, and I planted Lupines and of course the oaks they like.
Deer resistant here in cedar oakville means if it’s green, not picky and no fence it’s edible.

How do you clean your tools after being in the boxwood area❤ bleach water or Lysol spray

I use aerosol Lysol, spray well, allow to drip.

At 12:05 (looking at transcript) you mentioned heck cloas being happy and getting 4 from a gallon pot. What is the correct spelling of that plant so I can look it up? Thank you ❤

Hakonechloa (aka Japanese Forest Grass). I actually got two from each gallon pot (sorry if I said four).

Hopefully your neighbors are going to ‘tidy up’ all that junk laying around that area between your driveways. That would drive me insane. 😮

They are mid-construction and pushing hard to get the exterior work done by June. Like most projects it’s moving slower than they had hoped but we’re all hoping things move inside soon.

We don’t watch garden answer. Can’t relate. We don’t have millions of dollars worth of equipment, a crew of people doing the actual work, and no one “gives” us a pond or millions of plants to “ try out”.
