I know this is an old video, but to make things easier, just snap the shack stairwell to the foundation. Because the top of the stairwell is 2 floors thick, another floor will snap right next to it, lining up perfectly!
@@Hairysteed but she didn't use a barn or warehouse wall. That was a wood prefab. The foundation was from the barn set. What this guy is saying will work. ;)
This is exceptional and I will thank you twice. One for the guard tower idea and the other is for telling me about the “hold X” and left joy stick to move items, I never knew that. I have made, and placed, a variation of this with 4 turrets so I have 360 coverage when placed inside my settlement.
Know this was almost a year ago, but I’m going through her vids & she’s got great videos that have tips like these throughout. I’d also recommend checking out Skooled Zone for no mods tips as well. She’s detailed with builds like this, and Skooled Zone has some highlight videos if you’re ever looking for tips without the builds.
😩arrggg! From my perspective the trick with the shack stairs to prevent the floor from snapping is next level genius. 👍👍👍 Maybe, using to many mods has robbed me of abstract thought. 🙏We might have to leave it to the P.S. community to develope these techniques for us. Anyway, thanks.
Just grabbed fo4 (vanilla) for a quick 20$ and I've gone far enough in the game (i think) to where i want to settle down and raise a family. This video definitely made it's way on to my playlist for future settlement building in the game once i find a prime piece of real estate. Thanks again for the idea! (If not a jumping off point? A solid example in which I'll use as is!)
I’ve watched this video about 7-8 months ago as a youtube suggested video , i spent 1 day searching it again cause i cant remember the video title 😱🤣 now it goes to my yt fallout playlist and subscribed ..btw excellent video even for non native speaker , very clear and understandable accent 😉👍
I build a similar guard tower. I use the first wood prefab, putting fairly high up off of the ground. Then I go into warehouse/misc. and snap the long posts to the four corners. I like to have it high enough that it takes two posts to reach the ground. Then add warehouse stairs. I surround the edge with wood/misc and the railing pieces. I have a mod that provides a guard mat, so I don't need to put a guard post into it, but if you have the Vault-Tec build set unlocked, the steel guard post would fit nicely. Then, as my towers are dual purpose, I put a mix of turrets on the top of it. The higher the turrets are the further their range. As an example, I had my turrets at Murkwater Construction sitting very high above the ground. When I went to the school across the way and the ghouls attacked me, those turrets were shooting the ghouls.
This is almost exactly what I did in Sanctuary. I'm a big fan of Age of Enlightenment wooden forts and blockhouses. and this could be what Fallout 4 fortifications should be.. at least begins with. before better equipments and options becomes available.
I do something similar with the pier floor out of the Wood Structure Constructs, But I haven't used a floor and roof preset yet. I just use the plywood balcony railing from misalanious wood structures, the guard station from Defenses and the long stair case without platforms from Wood Sturctures. I place the pier floor/ foundation where I want the guard tower. Then I place the stair case where it is least likely to be shot at. Then I place the plywood balcony panels around the pier starting at the space nearest the stair case going around the floor until I get back to the stairs. Next I place the guard station to the front adjusting it until it is at least eyeball straight and squared with the front facing where the spawn point is. Next using the small square scaffolding frame and floor I build machine gun turret towers. Sometimes I put one on the left and right side of the tower, but recently I have only put one on the side that has the best field of fire to cover a spawn point.
Thanks for these tips. I like building watch-towers for guards, and more how others build them. I like to be inspired by the ideas of others. Just recently came across your channel when looking for ideas how to build Cross County as some kind of Trading Hub. :)
This is really similar to the small guard towers I like to build. I use shack walls for the hut and a sunk prefab for the base, but they're strikingly similar. (If you're interested, I show how to build one in installment 3 of my methods and techniques series. ;)
If its fine if can't do it on PC we can figure it out. I have been Play fallout 4 for while and this is the first time I am seeing your Fallout 4 glad to be here.
I may be 3 years late to the party but that’s why these videos are so cool they are useful to people waaaaaay down the tracks playing this game. Been playing fallout 4 for years but only recently got into the settlement building. I fucking love this games building system. It’s glorious. I also play Ark which has similar building mechanics, which I love, and that’s why I love fallout 4’s building so much. Anyway I’m drunk. Thank you so much for this it’s the best guard tower I’ve seen (Imo) and I already have ideas of my own to add to it. Ima go puke now. Love ya youtube.
In your turret platforms, you could put high vis harrys turret stand idea. It might be too small for that, but if i remember ill give it a try. Itll look that much cooler.
I'm a strong believer that a turret should be placed where it could be accessible by humans by foot so that it can be serviced and also it should be placed under a roof to protect from water.
Generally it's - E. Hold E to move objects with mouse and raise / lower with scroll wheel while still holding E. SPACE-BAR is used to attach wires, ESC to back out of a menu and arrow keys to scroll through menus, left / right click to rotate objects, scroll wheel to move closer / further away when not holding E.
Try sending them to a new settlement, then immediately, send them back to where you are ( don't let them leave ) that should "reset" them, then assign them again, also don't forget that 1 guard settler covers 3 guard posts, so if you have less than 3 posts, or more than 1 guard and not enough posts then they will do other stuff ( i think their AI gets kinda lost )
I don’t understand the purpose of putting the steps around the concrete cube when you could just let that top piece snap to the concrete cube. Maybe you can reply and tell me why you needed to do that
The top piece doesn't snap to the top of the concrete foundation. It will snap to the side of it. So the stairs are there to keep if from snapping to the sides so I can place it right on top manually.
Wasteland Dovahkiin Apparently I missed out on the discussion. Right on I do like the tower bill that you made I just kind of wasn’t following exactly why you did that so that makes a lot more sense thank you. Like the videos
If you have a wall why not just build the guard post as part of it? It's a good stand alone tower but against a wall seems to be wasteful when it comes to resources...
5yrs later the podcast are still helping thanks

Barn (and warehouse) walls, floors and stairs are taller than vanilla shacks.

Thank you so much for this video. So simple, straight to the point, and no mods! ❤❤❤❤❤
What a neat idea! Thanks for making these "how to" videos in which you demonstrate these wonderfully creative ideas.

nice guard post ... I'm building these every fallout and also the vault 88 setup helped me out as well. Thank you so much
I actually did this guard tower a while back. I stacked two large floors and built on top of that. All thanks to you.
Nice good simple guard tower, been thinking which types to make for all of them, this def looks nice and its simple enough.
Nice tower! I just found out that you can rug glitch the metal guard station into the concrete wall (with the windows) for a neat guard tower too.
This is surprisingly good, it's a interesting design I wouldn't of thought of

btw u can use 3 guard posts for all directions by clipping them with the rug glitch that way the guard will watch 3 sides

I judt love this post! You're so good at build videos that even you settlers help you show them off at the end hahaha :) ;)
Definitely going to build this (or something similar!) in all my settlements on my new playthrough, thanks for this!
I love this! I'm using this idea for the first line of defense in the castle.
I love it. These are being installed on at least two of my settlements with walls.
That's brilliant! Simple and good looking

1) Your tips & tricks are my favorite! 2) there's a way to make a guard tower that snaps to floor and roof with scaffolding

Good stuff. You could just put up one skinny barn floor and use that as a pass through if you wanted too.

very creative use for making a guard tower, but your right the vualt guard short walls fit better
thanks for the vid I was looking for insperation for some decorational items for my boring guard wall!
Simple design and it looks great! Nice... :)
I just started, thanks for the tower built
If its fine if can't do it on PC we can figure it out. I have been Play fallout 4 for while and this is the first time I am seeing your Fallout 4 glad to be here.
I like using the rectangular scaffold frame and floor piece as a platform for my turrets.

Nice. Then you can rug glitch a generator into the foundation for spotlights or MkII turrets
Ms. Dovah........ Nice build
Did you take an arrow to the knee? 🤣
On the PC to move the back and forth on the same horizontal plane; one holds the selection button, default "e".
cool i like this build very inspirational
Awesome! Bless-ed Be!😀
Thanks for your easy tutorials. Some people Ramble On and narrate the s*** out of it to where it just makes me want to turn it off....🤙👊
Hi from 2020.
That was neat, thank you.
Great idea. Go another level up an twist 90° too face a different side.
It's funny how all these Fallout videos were made in 2016.
That's awesome thanks for the tip
Woah! Amazing!
i use More Guard Posts mod. I heard they made mods available for consoles so check it, it really worth.
Pretty awesome
Well....now I know what I'm doing at sunshine tidings co-op.
Just use the shack stair case prefab to snap the first prefab in place
Just call it the build button/key. It shows on the build menu and changes with keybindings on pc. And it doesn't alienate your pc viewers.

make more building tip videos. love your ideas.

You need to download the workshop DLCs, specifically Contraptions and Wasteland Workshop.

It's not a mod. The barn building set comes from the Far Harbor DLC.

What mod are you using for the barns stuff ?? Sorry new to fallout.
Far harbor dlc
Thanks
Where do you get all the cement from?
What mod did you use to get that type of wall and floor foundation?
I didn't use any mods. If it's a piece that you don't have it's probably from one of the DLCs.
Are the barn pieces part of a DLC?
Yeah. Far harbor, I think.
merci pour le truc mais personnellement je ne mets pas un seul béton dans mes constructions...
Probably hold E and use the scroll wheel.
how do you get them to snap on like that?
I spend more time building in this game than actually playing it. Is that normal? : )
I can make a guard tower with out any of the picket magazine's and it epic
Can you do one without DLC please?
The Barn pieces your using what mod do they come with?
Dlc buddy
Far Harbor.

how did u get the barn pieces ??
