    I’m going to make a guess. First I thought there was a virgin queen that was out mating but I’ve changed my y guess. I think a swarm moved in and they changed their mind and absconded. The bees left behind were out foraging and didn’t get the memo.

      Indeed. But, my curiosity is the “grooming” behavior, which I haven’t observed in scouts before - just foragers.
