- Pastured Pork Profits - Make Money With Pastured Pigs. Today we are picking up 6 of our pastured pigs from the process and talking yield.
About 12 days ago we took 6 of our pastured pigs to the process to have processed into retail cuts of pastured pork that we sell at the farmer's market. We are on our way to pick them up and bring them home to put in our walk in freezer.
We show picking up, unloading, the inside of our freezer and talk about what the numbers ended up being. We share the full weight of the pigs, hanging weight, retail cut weight and finally the retail value of all 6 of the pigs if we sold them all.
You can make money with pigs and starting a pastured pig operation is not difficult. It takes a little time, know how and effort but can be done.

My wife and I have been watching your videos over the last two days trying to figure all this out. We are in GA so we are doing the research on the laws and licensing we will need here. Trying to find a USDA processor close by is the problem. For us raising the animals isn't the issue. We've been raising for ourselves for years now. I'd love to be able to build a farm up and retire to it with the next 8 to 10 years. It would be a lot of work but at least it would be doing what I want to be doing. Thanks so much for watching. Processors are a tricky thing right now. Most are booked up but go ahead and work on building a relationship with one if you can. That has made a world of difference for us. Building up to retire here is exactly what I'm trying to do. It's hard to be patient and most days I'm ready to quit my off farm job but really need it to keep the bills paid and the wheels turning. Good luck on your adventure! We have 7 acres where we are in Rowan county nc not far from y’all!. Me and my brother own a barber shop and we are looking to switch over to small farming at some point and buy more land we want to raise pasture poultry we just built our first chicken tractor and we plan to get a hand full of pigs as well.. we have about 3 acres of field we can use for the chickens . Hoping to get a call from nc ag soon to get started on what we need to be able to process the chickens. You guys have been a huge help for us to watch .

Can also freeze some of those femur bones for dogs. $3 to $5 a pop. If your state allows it.

I know this is an older video, do you guys do pork rinds? In NC, I would think cracklins would be a popular value added product for you, rather than losing all that weight to the processor(?)
Ay my town we cut and sell every bid from bone to nose that's wat it makes it profitable, but for so many year I have never seen any pig farm, so I'm planning to make it happen, I'll be using only grain for their feed and then grass that's all will it be sufficient for my pigs?but our breed is different it takes 1 year to get around 90-100 kg so what's your point of view please give ideas please this is for my living.

Thanks. It’s not 500% better. It’s really only about 374% better. The other 126% they pay is because I’m nice to them when they buy.

How long did it take your farm to start making a profit
That's kinda tough to answer. The first 2 years we have put everything back into the farm so it looks like a losing proposition. I think we were somewhat profitable last year (year 2) but only by a few hundred dollars. Everyone I've ever talked to, listened to or read says it takes 5 years. I could believe that.
