Great stuff, I have been keeping for nearly 40 years and always looking to improve. Just one point, with my umpire's hat on, several of the those takes around the 7 minute mark in the video would have been called as no balls as your gloves were in front of the stumps before the ball passed the stumps.
I think it just looks like that due to wear the camera is. As soon as I go closer to the camera my hands look like they’re past the stumps but they’re not
On stance . Alan Knott, Bob Taylor, Jack Russell , Ian Healey , etc etc . They all started with a full squat and came up with the ball from this position. I am not saying it is right or wrong , what I am asking is, Name me a better wicket keeper using the "modern" stance and also if this new position is an improvement on the old, should the above keepers have used this technique , would they have been even better . ?
Due to the lack of mass footage and not having seen any of those keepers live due to my age, it’s hard to compare. They used a technique which worked for them, keepers now use a technique that seems to work for them. You’ll find that the bits of footage you do see, they do get into similar positions, it’s just the initial movement: modern keepers driving up with predominantly knees only, with those keepers from 30/40 years ago driving up with their entire bodies. Would Don Bradman have been better if his bat lift was weightless? Would Jim Baker had taken the 20th wicket if he pivoted more over his front foot? Difficult ones to answer
Quality content Josh, thank you! I love being able to improve my cricket skills and I appreciate you sharing these golden tips with us which I am going to incorporate into my routines. Always felt the old way of things ie being lower than the knees felt sluggish and I naturally started keeping my bum a little higher which just felt more dynamic. Now with these tips my movements will be sharper and my hands smoother. Ps what are those inners you are wearing? They look comfy and not clunky. 👌 many thanks.
Thanku sir for your quality teachings
