I had an old real bad crusty rusted dutch oven. Followed your video and it now looks like new. Should make some awesome sour dough bread. Thank you for the video.
Thank you so much for this video, I followed your instructions and the old cast iron pan I found outside in the backyard of our new rental house has come up beautifully! I have no idea how long it was there for, but it had completely turned red from rust and now it’s good as new, thanks again mate!
Awesome Katilyn !! That is So good to hear, really glad yours came up well, it's crazy how much difference you can make to one that has been let go so bad :) :) Thanks heaps for taking the time to comment and letting us know how you went ! We love hearing from people who watch our videos and appreciate the kind words !!
This was one I found that had been left outside in the field for years, surprising how good they can come up hey 😃 Thanks heaps for watching and for taking the time to leave a comment tony 😄
I just bought 2 dutch ovens from and estate sale both for 10 bucks man they’d been left to rot out in the back yard for who knows how long can’t wait to start cleaning them up tomorrow thanks for the tips
Awesome Aksis, it is really surprising how good they can come up even after such long neglect. It is so rewarding to get them back to nice original color. Use what tips suit you best, be careful and have lots of fun restoring them !! :) :) :) Plz feel free to let us know how you go, we would love to hear about it !
Thnx heaps George, yeah nice old heavy one... made to last, so good to breathe life back into it. Its great that no matter how neglected and weather beaten they are, they can return to that :) Appreciate you watching one of our vids and taking the time comment, cheers !!
Awesome Abby, goodluck with it.... crazy how nice they can come up after being so far gone hey :) Thanks alot for taking the time to comment, really appreciate you watching our vids :D
Hi! thank you for your video. I was wondering if you were putting Cast Iron Dutch Oven in the oven when it's cold of when it's at it's higest temperature?
Hey Nidde, I put it in cold and let it heat up in there, a lot of time it is easier just to use a fire outside to heat them for cleaning purposes, but this time here I did it all inside just with our oven 😃 Sorry it took so long to answer, I only just found the comment, but hope it helps. Thank You so much for watching and commenting
GoodLuck A Turner !! They are such great old items, I hope yours comes up nice ! Please feel free to let me know how you went, I would Love to hear about it !!! Take care mate :)
Thanks so much for this. I wasn't exactly clear on how many times you did the seasoning in the oven? I think you did an hour and then took it out let it cool bre applied the oil and did it again for a half hour? Maybe I'm wrong 🤔
Hey Jen, yes that's a rough guide, it may vary depending on your oven and how bad your cast iron is you might get away with a bit shorter. Thanks very much for watching one of our videos , we hope you like our channell and wish you an awesome week 👍😀
Hey PJ :) Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I used the power tool because it made it quicker and that one was SO badly pitted and rusted.... you could do the same with a hand held wire brush... or if you skip that step altogether, just do it outside when you wash it as it will be a bit messier..or just use an outside fire ,heat it right up and oil it,, it all depends what you have how bad the pot is and what you prefer,,, just take this video as rough guide and have fun ..also be very careful once it is heated :)
Anyone that is anti-tools with the cast pans should try vinegar baths, really the most hands-off way and cheap. Don't toss the leftovers down the drain- chelated iron is in many fertilizer formulas, so throw it out in the yard somewhere- it stains decorative rock however, or anything else it touches. Experiment people and report back! ✌
Hey y'all the poor grible pan I have was left out in rain over 10 years pitted and by collecter standards. Trashed I used vinegar bath several times over 2 month time scrubbed returned to bath also used play sand and watered ash from oak to scrub and soak but turned out ok though still pitted it cooks well
No don't wash with detergent!!! Use high smoke point neutral oil (flax, grapeseed etc) on warm pan, give it a couple of minute to soak into the pores, now wipe off excess oil, then bake at 200c for about 1 hour and let cool in oven repeat 2 or 3x to complete seasoning process after cooking wipe off while still warm and if you need to clean off stuck on food just use some coarse salt, a splash of water, and a sponge/cloth/papertowel (i.e. non abrasives)
People that don't use industrial abrasives think that there is a better way. People that don't use electrolysis use industrial abrasives. People with neither means use a vinegar bath. I say DO IT ALL! breath new life into those pans folks! Lye bath, sandblast, tig weld cracks, laser rust removal, whatever, don't throw them in a campfire though. After all that, get out the oils and such, and season, and most importantly, cook something amazing for the ones you love! We don't do all this because we are trying to open a cast iron museum. Create rituals and share them for the love of cooking! I'd love to see a video that is titled: Cast iron pan restoration in 88 simple steps. Anybody? 🔥 🐟
@@markfish8403 Thanks Heaps , love your thinkin ;) Really appreciate your comment. Have an awesome 2022 filled with amazing moments surrounded by your loved ones enjoying life !!! :D
Good advice Luis, I am afraid I am a bit slack on personal safety,, but yes your right, people should be careful for their own safety :) Yes beautiful old cast iron, great metal . Thanks for watching and commenting !
I think a little iron dust is good to prevent anemia, none in the eyes though, and wire wheels are really dangerous on an angle grinder spinning @ 3900 rpm- a single strand can fly loose and pierce flesh, but they usually just bounce off. Watch you knuckles if you wanna see em again. Also, get an idea of a pan's worth before getting all surgical with it. That being said, enjoy every minute and bite of amazing food!
