  • This week on Give Me Shelter, it's the time of year for the rescuers to go out and trap, neuter then release the local feral cats to help control the feral cat population and keep them safe and healthy. A dog pen is being built but the combination of new volunteers and a thunderstorm means it could be a bigger job than expected.
    Give Me Shelter puts the viewers in the middle of a no-kill rescue shelter. From rescue runs to save hopeless animals, to successful adoption events, to the private thoughts of the characters involved, the audience will intimately experience it all.

    Thank you to the vet who was in tears about euthanizing these kitties! So thankful that she cares about these poor strays! Great lady!

    Spay/ neuter and release is a great way to save animals rather than killing them.

    Unchained is such a great idea! Even a smaller yard is so much better than being tangled on a chain, plus the fence protects them.

    Building a enclosure for dogs so they don't have to be chained up anymore is a great idea.
    No dog should live their life on a chain. It was sad that the two male cats had feline leukemia and had to be euthenized. 😔

    You know that you can tame feral cats 🐈. I've done it. All it takes is time love 💘 and patience

      I had two, they were sisters, and they lived long happy lives as indoor cats. They were just weeks old when we got them and liked only us.

      It also requires space. Space that overpopulated shelters rarely have.
      And not all feral cats WANT homes and that's fine. Tinykittens has worked with over 400 feral cats and they say all the time that what the cat wants is important.

    My Dad built our Pit-Charpei mix a large fenced in enclosure similar to this one but he laid special bricks down by hand so Louie 1 couldn't dig out & 2 ro help keep him dry bc he also put a very heavy tarp roof that he used 4 curved fence poles to use as the base ro put this gigantic tarp over. The back yard got an 8-foot privacy fence also made by my Dad and both gatea were 🔒 🔒 as well as Louie's pin gate was 🔒 so no one could get in bx he was fine with the family but if he didn't know you we were unsure so took the necessary steps to keep everyone safe!
    Unfortunately those 2 cats were obviously sick & by trapping them & them getting put down did prevent the colony hopefully from getting infected although I'm sure some are! Awful disease for the cats!

    I'm glad Jason laughed after he asked Kristen "where are you? We need you here, not there!" He sounded really mad.

    Why have a dog if you're just going to keep it outside on a chain, shame on that owner😡

    My animals are kept inside and I would take my dog 🐕for a walk and he also had lead rope. My cats 🐈are in and out

      My back door is held open with a half brick. Only one dog left now, kind of sad, but she can come and go to please herself.

    So wht, the dogs owner couldn’t bring the dog indoors once, due to a storm??? 🙄

      Why don’t you stay outside in a storm & get wet & then possibly sick afterwards 😡

      There are many reasons why owners don't want their dogs i their house. She was very happy to provide a good alternative for that, and her dog will be just as happy and well-cared for.

    How about a birth control pill for dogs cats world wide we can but why do we not have this?

    • @GotAnUmbrella
      @GotAnUmbrella 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They DO have pet birth control. It's better to spay and neuter than to use pet birth control. Dogs on birth control are still at risk for false pregnancies, pyometra, and cancers.

    I hate euthenasia in all cases

      Sometimes it can be a blessing, to save on suffering.

    • @GotAnUmbrella

      So you would prefer animals to die painful deaths instead of being euthanized. Your preference is torture?

    • @prcervi
      @prcervi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      and the people who's job it is to do the euthanasia hate the work too, but it's a necessity and it will keep being done in cases where there is no better option
      mercy doesn't mean pretty
