I'm with you on politicizing books like that. When that happens, it's a speedy DNF for me. I was more ruthless with my DNFs this year. No longer a glutton for punishment in reading stuff I don't enjoy. No point.
    Thank you!
    Merry Christmas from Croatia.

I haven’t read any of those books. I’m a big fan of DNF’ing a book. Wish I had felt the same way years ago, I could have saved myself some time. Now at 62 I will even DNF a book club pick!
This year I’ve quit on; Three Men in a Boat (didn’t find funny), Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (Ridiculous), The Body on the Lido Deck (boring), Lenny Among Ghosts (writing style), and I have soft DNF’d Crime and Punishment but I’ll try again when I can commit to it.

I DNF'd House in the Cerulean Sea this year. I LOVED Lucy and the snark and chaos he brought. I couldn't get past rhe choice thar Lucy's bedroom was in Arthur's closet (no one would approve that) and I DNF'd when they went shopping and the gnome made an innocent comment about shovel size which the adults and the reader were to interpret as a sexual comment. I know it's fictional, but don't give kids sexual jokes. I read the book shortly after watching Quiet on the Set so I was a little more sensitive, but I found it in poor taste. And I SO wanted to love it.

Lol, you want to know if we disagree? I totally support DNFing and don’t expect anyone to have the same opinions or feelings as I do about a book.
That being said, I personally love Watership Down and A Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches. Also, I added Birthday Girl to my TBR to try out 😂

I totally agree with DNF-ing. I have no time to read a book I'm not enjoying. I have DNF'd books from the first few pages due to writing style. I've also gotten half way through books when I DNF'd them because I just can't relate to characters or plot. And IMHO I can't get through books with whining women. There are too many good books out there just waiting.
    IDNF'd The Pairing as well.

I read Birthday Girl on my ereader and I don’t remember it being a long book so I do wonder if it being traditionally published it was rewritten. I do believe in DNFing a book. Not every book is for every person.

I do dnf a book, but sometimes it leads to fomo! I definitely do not like books that drag politics into books. I don't care what side it brings in, but if you're going to name blame, the book gets closed!

I’m a mood reader who reads for the pure enjoyment of it. Also hate wasting time, so if I’m not getting lost in the story, out it goes! So many books…so little time 📚 📕 📚

Yeah I wasn’t a big fan of Watership Down, either. I thought it was because I was younger when it came across a reading list and I picked it up. But if your dnfing it, I probably won’t pick it up again.

I haven't been keeping up with my DNFs - in fact I quit one at about 15% last month and can't even remember the name of it. But I enjoy hearing about other people's experiences and why they gave up on a certain book- that helps me know if it's something I'd like or not. Strangely, I'm more likely to remember the ones I should have DNFd and didn't lol.

You will find no argument from me about DNFing books. Prior to 2021, I could count on one hand all of the books I’d DNFed in my whole life. In 2024, I DNFed 33 books. Granted, I read over 200, but my time is too valuable to waste on a book I know I won’t at least really like.

Hi!! I DNF ed a couple this year. I dnf a book a week or so ago and i was more than 50% through. But there was something that was said that made me snap the book shut.

In the past couple of years I’ve embraced dnf’ing. I used to read it no matter what. Not any more. I learned that life is too short to read books you don’t like. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad book, it means it’s not the book for me.

I do DNF. Sometimes I push through (and usually regret it.) I DNF'd 7 books this year, notably Crazy Rich Asians (audio), I just didn't care about the characters, and Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune , (nothing was happening and I was almost halfway through the book.) I read Watership Down for a book report in high school and did not enjoy it. I know people love it, but I was not one of them.

I do DNF. I DNF if the story is boring me or if I just can't get into the story or not understanding what is going on. I haven't kept up with what books I have DNF'ed, but I plan to in 2025. I am going to make an area in my journal where I kept up with them.

I dnf'd the first Emily Wilde book, so I am in the minority on that. I do wonder if I should try it again, however I am not sure I will.

    Hi Sarah
I have read Watership Down - I had a hard time in reading this book - I got half way through the book and I DNF the book. I didn’t like it - it was boring to me - there was nothing to the story. I got rid of my physical paperback book. I was not going to keep the book.
    Take Care & Happy Reading

I DNFd 18 this year and should have DNFd at least 2 more. Maybe 3 if I count one I’m reading currently. Red Rising, Delicate Condition, The Quiet Tenant, the Last Word, and the count of Monte cristo were some of the more popular ones I said nope to

I really don't try to dnf. I try to read books I know I'll like.

I couldn’t stand watership down, but I should have known better I hate books from an animals point of view I have yet to find one that works for me and I love animals lol. I DNF’d When the moon hatched and it hurt. That book is physically stunning but I was so bored and confused the whole time. Some of the ways the author chose to describe things was a choice and at times felt repetitive. I made it a little more than halfway and had to stop. 😊
