Well, as you pointed out, there is a huge difference between rocker arm or lifter noise, and bearing noise. Surprising people do not get on these as soon in passenger car engines as they do in commercial engines. My friend ask me, I told her, your engine is off time, you need to replace the timing belt now. It was a 4 vlve per cylinder OHC Ford inline 4. I told her that is an interference engine, that car is not worth more than a couple thousand running. If that belt goes full bad, your valves will hit the pistons, and that's a full overhaul, more than you car is worth. Two weeks later, she got an estimate for $3400. The original estimate to replace the belt, $200. She had the 2 bucks, didn't want t spend it.
One way to check for fuel detonation noises as opposed to mechanical noises is to run the vehicle down a long decent and turn fuel / ignition off then listen if noise stays or diapears obviously be careful with power steering and stearing lock etc
Would a fuel knock be considered detonation? I know in gas engines when 2 flame fronts meet in the combustion chamber it can make a knocking sound as well as being able to cause catastrophic engine failure....so would an injector be causing a "fuel knock" because of this effect?
you need to determine weather you have a diesel knock or something more serious, if it is a knock disassemble the engine and take measurements of all the bearing journals after finding the damage it is very critical to determine what caused it or you will be repeating the process more than once. diesel knock will not damage an engine unless a bad injector creates a hydraulic lock between the piston and head, this can cause bent crankshafts and con rods.

I have a 06 freightliner with a c15 cat engine. It has over a million miles. when I accelerate it makes a ticking noise around the turbos. when I looked around the turbos there is soot there but I can't find the exhaust leak
+Will Sledge Exhaust leaks can be hard to find sometimes because the soot will burn off the manifold. Look for missing exhaust nuts and which direction the soot looks like it is coming from.
I have blowby at idle, only at idle, could this also be due to valve seals leaking? There's lots of sounds too but it's hard for me to identify the sounds
"Long time listener, first time caller" ignore the old user name from eons ago. Just did injector sleeves, injectors, and overhead on a 3126B. When I first started it I had a valve train noise that seemed odd, ran with the cover off and noticed what seems like excessive side to side movement on the cylinder two rocker arms. During a road test I heard some "clackity" that's more than normal from all of the other 3126's I've worked on and driven. I have some videos of the arms with the engine running and movement of the arms with the engine off. If possible I'd email them to you just to get your opinion of what my problem may be. I'd greatly appreciate it! Let me know your thoughts if you can. Thanks for the awesome content!
I gotta say I really enjoy your videos and they have helped me a lot , I go to school at uti for diesel right now I have only 4 more months left and I've talked to Quinn cat and they want to go to their school and hopefully one day I can work with you

My diesel is ticking a lot when engine is cold, also hesitates when I let off the gas in second gear, like a misfire. Then after 10-20 minutes these issues basically goes away, as the engine has warmed up. Your take on the issue?
I have an 01 cummins and I feel it makes too much noise.. engine was rebuilt by previous owner and it’s my first diesel. Diesel shop said everything sounds great and she runs great. I know these engines are loud but are they really that loud and make that much different of engine noise?
hi great info here is another question about cummins isx on 2005 volvo vnl 13 speed transsion to see if anyone can help me when i m driving with regular speed i have no noise everything is normal but when i release gas going downhill i hear knocking noise that wasn't there before however when truck is not loaded or bobtail this noise very hard to hear or any mechanic cant hear it seemed like fuel knocking but can you tell me how to diagnose that also i get sudden split second engine cut offs on this truck and comes back in same second any help would be appriciated thanks
My diesel engine sometimes has a knocking or ticking noise when it's cold, related to the rpm of the engine, When it's warmed up it goes away. It does have 415,000 km on it and never been serviced, just regular oil changes and filter changes every time the oil is changed.

Mine 2.5 Toyota D4D engine excessive tapping sound. I found thats engine oil also slowly reduced the volume. I found a bit oily on EGR assembly and also at the intake manifold. Power doesnt affected and still running powerful during uphill. Tks for you info
Hello my husband has a 2016 peterbilt 579 and all of a sudden it starting making a knocking sound and he took it to the mechanic and they cannot find the problem he is suggesting driving it that way.
My 1961 fordson dexta has a little knock to her, but the valves do need some adjusting. Crankcase pressure is also present, but so far isn’t causing issues. I’m hoping that’ll fix it, if not i have a problem
I've got a cat 3406b which I did a complete in frame rebuild on and I keep having problems with valve train components breaking ever since the rebuild, I also had the head rebuilt (new valves, springs guides and seals), the first time the pedistools that the hold the valve train cracked, then later I had a valve bridge break In half. The motor is defininatly making more ticking noise than it did before the rebuild.
Adept Ape yeah I'm pretty convinced the machine shop screwed something up with the valves, something is either out of spec or they installed the wrong valve springs.
My 2014 Duramax 6.6 fuel injector pump went out. Is there a way to clean the injectors or do they have to be replaced along with the injector pump. I was told that there was metal in all the injectors now. Dealership repairs $9,000. Tks
Hello! I need your plethora of knowledge lol, if you are willing of course. Was curious if Cat 3126s are prone to broken piston rings??? 8000+ hours 176k miles in a school bus? White smoke for 10 min from cyl 4 exhaust port was wet replaced #4 injector with same results
I have Isuzu NPR Eco Max and when I accelerate I have a loud knocking sound I took it to the dealer and put it on the scanner and tell me cylinder 1 and cylinder 4 not sure if it's the valve or the injector what's the best way of finding that out
My 2008 Toyota fortuner has a knocking sound after my gasket blown and engine head cracked, I have replaced both but sound is still there, what might be the problem?
My c13 is frustrating me at the moment. Got a check engine light that just started it only shows under load once I shut down and restart it goes away. That I assume is oil pressure sensor for dpf.
In the Motor Home community what is the Best Diesel being used today in these Motor homes. In this line of Diesel engines what is one of the Most Common reasons for one of these Engines to Brake Down.
Clatterpillar ! We have a C15 mxs engine with 285k miles. It had a cracked injector cup last year ( fuel in the coolant). After repair, Cat "turned it up " to 550 hp. I notice now, it has a strange " combustion " noise that sounds like " tink, tink, tink, when it's idling, or at low rpm. The noise changes with rpm. Definitely not a knock.
+george kuersten Hmmmmm, well if they did an injector or cups they had to remove your overhead so it's possible one of the setting is set too loose or a light fuel knock, but usually those happen under a load.
do you know much about the Mercades 508D engines, ? im in ecuador with my van and i have a ticking noise and had a machanic send some pictures. bu ti want to know how bad it is !
Hello adept ape, love the videos very good information! What do you think a rattle/knock would be in the cylinder 6 area? (2004 cat c15 mbn)It only does it at idle n light throttle, not a speck of metal in oil filter and it changes pitch with the throttle but when cruising on the highway it doesn’t do it and no smoke at all just a bit of black when up shifting. I had valve cover off and nothing is broken or loose. The noise sounds like it’s coming from the combustion chamber area
Chris Eee Same exact thing with my mxs accert...no smoke, except light black smoke when pulling, only at idle and light throttle, goes away at highway speed...does yours still do it? Or did you find out the problem? (If there is one)
I have a 3406B CAT motor that has a slapping noise coming from the front drivers side in the timing cover. Good oil pressure and eliminated all outer accessories. Valves looked fine. Any ideas?
Got a little problem with a international DT 466E. It starts up normal and runs good in the parking lot. Dont matter how long you let it run. But once your going down the road a few miles. All of a sudden it starts blowing thick white smoke out the tail pipe and has practically no power. Like it's in limp mode. Pull over and keep the revs high and sometimes it will clear itself of the white smoke and regain power. Or shut it off and wait. And wait. And wait. And in 15 to 20 minutes later. It will start and run with no more smoke and have normal power again. May only happen once a day. May happen 100 times a day. Had it to several shops. And had a bunch of mechanics try to diagnose the problem. No one can seem to find the problem and fix it. Any ideas. Please help. Early 2000 model 4500 or 4900 series international DT466 E. Standard shift 4×4 dump bed.
hello i have toyota 4wd diesel engine d4d 1kd engine which gives ticking noise at 1500 rpm UNDER LOAD at cold/warm drive. at hotter temperature, the noise disappear. any suggestions?
I have a F150 3.0 56000 that has started a ticking sound. Lucas was put in gas not sure if that caused it. Gets faster with faster idle sounds like it’s coming from left side (driver side) of engine. What should I look for possible causes?
Oddly, I had an old 7.3 Navistar that pooped out the oil control ring. That was a surprise. Another oddity I've encountered on a gas engine was a piston skirt that had broken off, causing the engine to knock intermittently.
Ive got a 76 series landcruiser with a 4.5 litre v8 diesel with noisy injectors , had them checked by toyota they were all within spec , cars done 207k , why would tge common rail noise be so loud if everything within spec ?
What was the wire loom inside the valve cover ? Wouldn't the oil wreck the loom in no time ? I'm new to diesels so be gentle I'm just asking to gain better knowledge
For the injectificators. And it's fine like that for a good while anyways. I drive a F350, same with those wires under the valve cover connect glow plugs and injectors, on the 7.3s the connector for the other side goes through the valve cover gasket and connects just outside the valve cover.
Great video..... I recently cracked the head on a overhead cam toyota ln106 3L Diesel engine. I bought a brand new complete head ( shimmed valves already set to correct clearence ) and fitted it. I lined all timing marks properly when fitting yhe new timing belt and rolled the engine over 4 times by hand to check everything was correct. From the first moment I started the motor after fitting the new head ( with new head gasket and seal kit ).....there is a ticking sound that was never in the in the engine before the new head. What could this be ? It seems to be more noticible some days and not others. It seems also to go away at higher revs.
hi! i have a knocking sound that only audible when the engine is hot. its like 4 to 6 times per second. when you rev the engine above 1,100 rpm, it disappears. what could it be? i noticed it after an hour of up and downhill driving.
Diesel engine noises are like the sands of the sea and a lot of times very hard to put your finger on...fuel / injector knock is a tough one to figure out. I believe even the fuel it's self with any additives is gonna make it fire differently, thus some kind of noise. Think of a guitar string out of tune, what made it go out, the string stretching or maybe humidity is making the whole instrument swell and contract. Don't know if this is a good explanation, but the point is, very hard to diagnose.
+blake Taylor Yes they were the updated bolts. The updated bolts fail as well as the older ones, but they fail less around the bolt head usually, but fail still.
+Adept Ape I been looking to re-power a Kaiser M-715 6,500lbs project, my intent is a 2003 6.0 LS engine with a 4L85e / AMG 242 transfer-case, I have already. The pros and the no-go are not too far apart. I would like to have something I can drive "From Sea To Shining Sea". The BT6 I tend to find, have "issues" blow by, burned valve seats, and crazy miles. I'm not even sure if a BT6 is the engine to get, I'm aware the BT4 is rather good but my military truck is not a UPS delivery truck. I know my gas engines,............. this thing will be used for long hauls possibly Route 66 . Not totally set on the 12 Valve Cummins engine, the Detroit not so fond of, and if I have to run a PCM it would only be for a Duramax. Respectfully, can you give me your opinion?
+ramairgto72 You have me a lot of info there, so you want to run a 6.0 LS engine or a Diesel, but are unsure which to get? If you have the 6.0 already just run that the Diesels are expensive as well as the parts for them. If you wanted to go the Diesel route I would say the old smaller Cummins in the Dodge trucks, the 5.9 were pretty good I hear, the Cat 3126 is a good engine, other than that I don't have much Detroit experience so can't say.
Thank you for the reply. I belong to most M-715 forums and the common repower is a 1 wire 6BT.. Having served in the military and having been in the back of APC in the heat and cold, the smell of burned Diesel is not on my "shot list". However the "car guy" in me cannot ignore the benefits of rather good MPG, more usable TQ then I would ever need and a dependability factor all in it's own class. Not to mention they are rather waterproof. Thank you for your advice, I believe I will go with my 6.0 Gas LS, at least for now. Thank you!
Ive looked at some smaller army trucks and they always had 4 cylinder diesels in them. I guess with gearing and low expectation on top speed any little motor would move it. But how fast do you really need to go?
I'm looking to buy a CC RV with a C9 engine. The mechanic that works on it told me it has an alarming fuel knock that goes away very quickly. He said it has been doing this for a long time. Does this sound like a possible "fuel knock", and if so, because it only happens for a short time after starting, is this something I should worry about? Thanks. I've enjoyed watching many of these videos.
Josh got back to me through email: "So the first thing you need to know is whether it is a C9 or a C9S. The C9 will have a 9DG serial number prefix and will have been produced up to 2006, if the coach is a 2008 and the C9 has a C9S serial number prefix I would caution you on getting that engine. I'm going to guess this is an older C9 though with a HEUI injector fuel knock. The HEUI injectors could and would knock sometimes especially when cold. It is usually a problem with an individual injector and can make the engine hard to start in cooler whether. I would recommend replacing the bad injector/injectors if you do buy the coach. You might want to call a Cat repair shop and get a written quote for an injector replacement in a RV. It would be a kind of expensive, so hopefully the seller can get it fixed first or negotiate the price with you." I then told him that it's a C9 with HEUI and asked if he'd seen/heard a fuel knock that goes away quickly, and he replied: "If it is something that goes away in a couple seconds that would be very difficult to troubleshoot. If it is something that goes on for about 20-30 seconds it could be figured out with a manual cylinder cutout test without too much trouble generally. If it isn't caused by bad injector it could be low fuel pressure or a few other problems. Generally, it is just 1 injector though." I sent him some $ for his time. I hope others do also. These videos are excellent, and he is very helpful.
What causes my Mercedes 617 to change its idle behavior from a smooth purring diesel then to becoming a pain shaker???? I noticed that his occurs after she has traveled for an hour especially by the end of a 26Km trip. Blow by I think is out of the question. Could it be an idle rack pin? Or some injector? Could it be the injection pump itself? Any tip would help. thank you
Even with updated Rocker/IVA bolts they still break. Before Acert engine (expect for MXS iva housings were separate from jake housings) Cat had long bolts that went through jake housing and rockers NEVER did they ever break.
+Alena Soto The BXS had the separate IVA housings, not the MXS, but yeah I haven't seen the older engines break the rocker bolts like the MXS/NXS/SDP did, whether the bolts were updated or not.
Yes I know about BXS and even remember first 2500 BXS had wrong software, update turbo studs and bracket. SDP was over engineered mess with basically 2 EGR systems. I also remember when they said acert not EGR and IVA just hold intake valves open longer to get more charge in. We all know it was EGR just couldn't tell us techs the truth. Bridge engines with broken liner flanges Only good thing about acerts they didn't blew head gaskets out like 5EK, 6TS, 1LW, 2WS and 6NZ, 1MM. 7CZ truck side
+Alena Soto I think the older engines had more liner protrusion and head gasket problems because they would just keep running and running mileage until they wore out the liners. Unlike the SDP, which sees the shop a little more often.
I remember there was block metal change with blocks if I remember. Liner protrusion from factory around .003 to .0035 with early and late engines. First acerts fan came on at 226 then they backed it down to 217
Hello Im new to the channel. I dont know about diesel engines alot. Just purchased a tow truck with a 3126 engine. The temperature is going up. It was running fine. My question is. Can I run the engine with the termostats removed? Thanks for your help.
i have some blow by on my 1996 m11 cummings Volvo.. is there anything i can put in the oil to help it? i only put 3k miles a year on this truck as its for my rv.. rv hauler any help would be great thanks love your videos
+The Deprey's Not really anything that'll stop blowby by putting it in the oil. If you are running thinner oil than recommended that can increase the blowby. If you are concerned about just the blowby, but the engine runs fine there are aftermarket blowby filters that you can add on that will vent the oil back to the engine and keep most of the oil mist off your RV or tow vehicle.
are there any piezo injectors on cat? I know if the hold pressure on a piezo system fails the injector make a clatter noise and destroy them self's if you don't get it sorted quickly so I Wonder if some cat use this Bresser hold system it's 10 bar on leak side of piezo only injectors.?
+Intrade Motor I looked up Piezo injectors in the Cat system and nothing came up and I've never heard anything about the injectors other than the use of solenoids which would imply that Cat likes electro magnets more than the magic voodoo of Piezo. You actually went new down a rabbit hole with that Piezo search where I was watching chemists make Piezo crystals and testing voltage.
Hello, My C-15 Cat started making a put put sound when idling more. Then in few hours started blowing blue. during idle, blue few more hours put put getting louder. you need to determine weather you have a diesel knock or something more serious, if it is a knock disassemble the engine and take measurements of all the bearing journals after finding the damage it is very critical to determine what caused it or you will be repeating the process more than once.
diesel knock will not damage an engine unless a bad injector creates a hydraulic lock between the piston and head, this can cause bent crankshafts and con rods.
I just had an overhead done on my truck and I started hearing a ticking sound, any idea why? Thank any suggestions will be well appreciated.
"pull your oil filter, cut it open and look for metal" Don't forget to use the special filter cutting tool; if a hacksaw is used, you WILL find lots of metal particles...
+MrGGPRI Yes, a valid point, if you cut it with a cut off wheel or a hack saw you'll have small metal pieces in the filter.
The Raven..Good to know other mechanics read old stuff too...
I have an old tractor that has an intermittent knock. Because its intermittent would that rule out a rod or crank bearing??
I have blowby at idle, only at idle, could this also be due to valve seals leaking? There's lots of sounds too but it's hard for me to identify the sounds
So my truck is ticking and I have a weak cylinder. Could you give me a ballpark on how much this would cost or at least what is entailed.
I don't get to work on Cat's much- thanks for the insights and great visuals!
+briansmobile1 Thanks for saying so, hey 183,000 subscribers! I'm jealous, I'm going for 10,000.
+Adept Ape Wow you had Brian watch and comment on one of your videos!! You must be doing something right. Thanks for posting this video.
Hey, you passed it! Congratulations!

I gotta say I really enjoy your videos and they have helped me a lot , I go to school at uti for diesel right now I have only 4 more months left and I've talked to Quinn cat and they want to go to their school and hopefully one day I can work with you
+Johnathen Thompson Thanks for watching them. If you work for a Cat dealer perhaps one day out paths will cross. I get a lot of comments from people in Diesel school and it's great to hear I'm watched by the younger guys.
I like your intro of " The Raven" appropriate for the topic.
Thank you.
I have a knocking at idle, but it goes away when reved up a little. What could this mean?
My diesel is ticking a lot when engine is cold, also hesitates when I let off the gas in second gear, like a misfire. Then after 10-20 minutes these issues basically goes away, as the engine has warmed up. Your take on the issue?
I have an 01 cummins and I feel it makes too much noise.. engine was rebuilt by previous owner and it’s my first diesel. Diesel shop said everything sounds great and she runs great. I know these engines are loud but are they really that loud and make that much different of engine noise?
hi great info
here is another question about cummins isx on 2005 volvo vnl 13 speed transsion to see if anyone can help me
when i m driving with regular speed i have no noise everything is normal
but when i release gas going downhill i hear knocking noise that wasn't there before
however when truck is not loaded or bobtail this noise very hard to hear or any mechanic cant hear it
seemed like fuel knocking but can you tell me how to diagnose that
also i get sudden split second engine cut offs on this truck and comes back in same second
any help would be appriciated
thanks
My diesel engine sometimes has a knocking or ticking noise when it's cold, related to the rpm of the engine, When it's warmed up it goes away. It does have 415,000 km on it and never been serviced, just regular oil changes and filter changes every time the oil is changed.
Any idea of price and availability of parts for yanmar tractor engines from John Deere
what about 6.7 powerstroke. it started irregular "typewriter" tick after oil change. I don't know what to do
great video man i really like your videos i just got a job as a truck mechanic and i went to school (wyotech) for hd diesel but it was 5 years ago and your videos really help with me remebering all the stuff i learned in school please keep the bad ass content coming
+timmensch Thank you for saying so. I'll keep making if people keep watching them.
Mine 2.5 Toyota D4D engine excessive tapping sound. I found thats engine oil also slowly reduced the volume. I found a bit oily on EGR assembly and also at the intake manifold. Power doesnt affected and still running powerful during uphill. Tks for you info
Thanks for the amazing overview. Very professional. you really know your stuff! Thank you.
I guess that's why I've heard them called Clackapiller engines.
Is an intermittent ticking on a 12 valve cummins indicative of it being exhaust or intake? I just started hearing it when I got home tonight.
Hello my husband has a 2016 peterbilt 579 and all of a sudden it starting making a knocking sound and he took it to the mechanic and they cannot find the problem he is suggesting driving it that way.
Awesome videos. Learning so much can't wait to start my career as mechanic !
nice opener and great delivery. two thumbs up.
Hi buddy I have a 2.7 diesel and it rattles under load I little when it's at running temperature any idea ... thanks in advance..
I have the exact same sound on my lb7 duramax . Been doing it since the day I bought the truck and hasn't changed or got worse since
I have the same on my 03 lb7 ,did you ever figure it out.i bought mine two years ago and drive it every day with no problem but the taping sounds
so many videos on what makes these noises but NONE are showing how to fix it
My 1961 fordson dexta has a little knock to her, but the valves do need some adjusting. Crankcase pressure is also present, but so far isn’t causing issues. I’m hoping that’ll fix it, if not i have a problem
Did you find the problem?
You're a good teacher, I really enjoyed the video. Thanks for posting it.
+Boomer Valley Thanks for watching.
+Guns Bikes And More Sounds like you've got some sort of valvetrain geometry gremlin going on there.
Adept Ape yeah I'm pretty convinced the machine shop screwed something up with the valves, something is either out of spec or they installed the wrong valve springs.
Edgar Allen Poe The Raven. Adept Ape reciting poetry. Respect.
Please tell me; how can I fix noisy ticking fuel injectors? is there anyway to do it?
My c13 is frustrating me at the moment. Got a check engine light that just started it only shows under load once I shut down and restart it goes away. That I assume is oil pressure sensor for dpf.
Is there an alignment between the oilers and the bolts that hold them in place. 3406e.
In the Motor Home community what is the Best Diesel being used today in these Motor homes. In this line of Diesel engines what is one of the Most Common reasons for one of these Engines to Brake Down.
Hey man Poe is the shit. If he were around today he'd own a diesel
+jasalmon21 Lol, I'm not sure if most artsy poets would be driving a 5.9 Cummins and rolling coal at stoplights, but it is a funny image.
+george kuersten Hmmmmm, well if they did an injector or cups they had to remove your overhead so it's possible one of the setting is set too loose or a light fuel knock, but usually those happen under a load.
its a washer under the injector or the injector its not enough tighten up .
VERY WELL PRESENTED. THANKS.
do you know much about the Mercades 508D engines, ? im in ecuador with my van and i have a ticking noise and had a machanic send some pictures. bu ti want to know how bad it is !
Now in know mechanic but my bxs does the same thing......I was told it's a fuel knock and it's no big deal..... mine has done it for 800000 miles
Howdy sir. Can you a video about ticking, knock, clicking sound coming from peanut cover. Thank you
I have a F150 3.0 56000 that has started a ticking sound.
+Wrench245 I've never seen a part of a piston come off and the engine continue to run fine. Was the oil control ring causing a knocking or tapping?
Also kids dont forget to check your blinker light fluid!
I need some blinker light fluid, mines empty. ;)
BigCannon Adventures i can get a great deal on bliker fluid AND HEADLIGHT OIL
Hell yeah! Now we must spread the word lol
BigCannon Adventures I'm low on headlight oil too.
While you get the blinker fluid, don't forget to pick up a bucket of steam
What can it be if there is a clicking/clapping sound, but coming up randomly: clicks a few times then stops and then starts again?
Diesel engine noises are like the sands of the sea and a lot of times very hard to put your finger on...fuel / injector knock is a tough one to figure out. I believe even the fuel it's self with any additives is gonna make it fire differently, thus some kind of noise. Think of a guitar string out of tune, what made it go out, the string stretching or maybe humidity is making the whole instrument swell and contract. Don't know if this is a good explanation, but the point is, very hard to diagnose.
The engine with the broken actuator housing and rocket shaft did it have the upgraded IVA studs?
+blake Taylor Yes they were the updated bolts. The updated bolts fail as well as the older ones, but they fail less around the bolt head usually, but fail still.
+Adept Ape
I been looking to re-power a Kaiser M-715 6,500lbs project, my intent is a 2003 6.0 LS engine with a 4L85e / AMG 242 transfer-case, I have already.
With traffic.
It's that easy, most M715 have 30 MPH MAX SPEED stenciled on the dash.
HI so if there is black smoke soot on the flange of the turbo on the exit flange is that an easy fix by tighting the flange ?
what would a ticking noise u can hear in fueltank be? truck not startin
My c15 accert is tapping. Took to shop nothing broken. Had overhead adjusted. Still tapping at bottom of head
What does the main reason if i shutdown the engine it sounds like no smoothness i mean it’s sound bragged how to fixed it?
I drove trucks since the 70s and found the first thing you always check is to make sure the NUT behind the wheel isn't loose
Josh got back to me through email:
"So the first thing you need to know is whether it is a C9 or a C9S. It would be a kind of expensive, so hopefully the seller can get it fixed first or negotiate the price with you."
I then told him that it's a C9 with HEUI and asked if he'd seen/heard a fuel knock that goes away quickly, and he replied:
"If it is something that goes away in a couple seconds that would be very difficult to troubleshoot. If it is something that goes on for about 20-30 seconds it could be figured out with a manual cylinder cutout test without too much trouble generally. If it isn't caused by bad injector it could be low fuel pressure or a few other problems. Generally, it is just 1 injector though."
I sent him some $ for his time. I hope others do also. These videos are excellent, and he is very helpful.
What about metallic pinging sound? No cylinder blowby and clean looking exhaust at cold.
Any tip would help. thank you
Same. Was purring like a race car. Now shaking and clanking like a spoon was dropped in the intake.
Bridge engines with broken liner flanges
Only good thing about acerts they didn't blew head gaskets out like 5EK, 6TS, 1LW, 2WS and 6NZ, 1MM. 7CZ truck side
I'm under my Wife's username since she keeps logging me off and I forget to log in
+Alena Soto I think the older engines had more liner protrusion and head gasket problems because they would just keep running and running mileage until they wore out the liners. Unlike the SDP, which sees the shop a little more often.
I remember there was block metal change with blocks if I remember. Liner protrusion from factory around .003 to .0035 with early and late engines. First acerts fan came on at 226 then they backed it down to 217
Our 2005 izuzu npr turns on with a new knock and doesn't let us accelerate. What could it be.
Hello Im new to the channel. I dont know about diesel engines alot. Just purchased a tow truck with a 3126 engine. The temperature is going up. It was running fine. My question is. Can I run the engine with the termostats removed? Thanks for your help.
Great analysis.....with examples; your choice of categories was esp. helpful....!
Do you have a shop of your own ? If so what state are you in ? Thanks !
i have some blow by on my 1996 m11 cummings Volvo.. is there anything i can put in the oil to help it? i only put 3k miles a year on this truck as its for my rv.. rv hauler any help would be great thanks love your videos
And just started sounding like a light jake brake sound when taking off. It is going in shop before any more driving. Any ideas what it might be.
Thank you
It's burning oil.... So what happened with it?
I have a 94 f450 73 and I've got a problem I have 3 rockers on the same side that are loose and not oiling good but I've got good oil pressure would bad injectors cause this
IDI or PSD?
