@TwoRailfans Thanks! I'm hoping this session is one of many in a long line of sessions to come. The caboose collection is fun isn't it? I'm still missing an SP&S caboose (the only Hill Lines one I don't have) and a former Frisco caboose. Although, between you and I, the Frisco's cabooses were a little on the homely side.
@JosephMusgrove Joe, we're not that far up the road from you. When we get operating here on the BH&E for real, you could come and be our Sioux City YM or a switch locomotive engineer! If we ever resurrect SiouxRail there would be even more pull for you to make the trip!
@georgiasunbelt Thanks! I've been on the very casual lookout for another unit for MSRY! Been thinking of doing an episode on the 5534 (GP40) for a while. Mainly because it has been 'in the family' for quite a while. And a good friend threw me a pretty big compliment on it when I'd first finished it.
Kadee uncoupler magnets on your classification tracks makes yard switching so much easier and fun. I use the magnets in my yard and industry spurs where cars are most often cut away from, and eliminate about 80% of the need to use the skewer stick to uncouple. There are some guidelines to follow when using magnets. You have to have plated brass wheelsets (IM, Athearn, Walthers, ect) as steel wheelsets (Exactrail, Bachmann) will be drawn to the magnets and cause undesired uncouplings. Also Kadee couplers are wayyy more responsive to magnets that all the other couplers. I find that while the Walthers metal couplers look nice and work well, the trip pin is not nearly as magnetic as Kadee and causes issues in some cases. So I use Kadee on all cars I intend for operations.
@funnelfan Thank you for this thoughtful response! I've never really thought of using uncoupling magnets. As you said, I have standardized on Kadee couplers and have gotten rid of almost everything else. I've been putting IM wheels on almost everything lately besides the ones that come with metal wheels stock, which seems to be almost everything now. Only a handful of ER and Bachmann cars on the layout so we're probably good there as well.
@@blackhillsandeasternrailroadYep. Some patched CP, MILW, and CNW too. A little of the early years along with some "what if" they got the PRB loan and continued operations.

Like yard switching. I could be entertained having a large yard layout!

@@blackhillsandeasternrailroadThanks. I am planning my DME with Huron as the center point.
@majortomtogc Cool! So you can have the roundhouse with a bunch of blue engines parked in and by it!?!!?
